Today's Everyday Fashion: Professor Plum

Anyone else a fan of the game Clue growing up? Professor Plum popped into my head when I saw this outfit and now I have a jonesin' to play. Professor Plum was, of course, my favorite since purple was my favorite color as a kid. I also liked Miss Scarlett since she seemed like one rad chick, and nowadays Colonel Mustard would rank highly since I'm so obsessed with that color. I love the cool tones of this outfit though, and mixing purple and gray in general. Purple is great because you can wear it with both warm tones (red, pink) and cool tones (blue, gray) and today is a great example of the cool tones. How do you rock the color purple?

  2. Ahhh I love your jeans!  And $13 from Ross?  Amazing.  I think you look fantastic!  I loooove purple and I'll wear it with nearly anything--gray, brown, teal (my fave), yellow (another fave), etc.

  6. This is a timely post because the last couple of times I've gone shopping, purple has been everywhere! Is purple a new thing or something? I've never had a lot of purple in my wardrobe, but I just bought a satiny purple tank top with some ruffle neck detail. (It's cuter than I'm describing and lovely for going out to dinner and whatnot.) I'm still trying to decide if this is a good color for me though.

So, here's a question: How do we determine our good colors? Is there a fool proof way? I don't know if I trust my own opinion. *laugh* I think those "What's your season" quizzes say I'm a spring or a summer, but I'm not even sure I'm doing those right. Am I limited to those colors? How do I adjust my makeup to make certain colors more flattering on me? (That was so not one question.)

  7. You know, purple is not a shade a have too much of, but i'm liking it more and more. Especially the deep deep wine shade. And Clue? You just brought up some fabulous childhood memories! Thanks :)

  11. I really like your color combo (but maybe with black shoes instead). I've been wanting a pair of color denim and I'm either going green or purple.
Question: the shoes in the pic look a bit odd with this outfit. Is it the angle?

  12. I love the plum and grey combo that you are rocking! I've been looking for jeans like the ones you have on-- I think they are more versatile and a little dressier than the bright purple versions! And I haven't played Clue in the longest time but now I want to again! I forgot how fun it was!

  13. Cute! I like your version better ;)

I'm obsessed with color pants right now. Just bought green last night and now I want purple.

  14. Thank you! Yes, I think it's the angle of the picture. You can see the boots a little better here, they have ruffles on the sides: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=121954911163587&set=a.120092174683194.18614.120030604689351&type=3&theater

  16. This is a great question Tina! I don't really trust the season quizzes either, and I'm not sure if you really need to limit yourself like that anyway! I like to try things on and determine that way - if you don't trust yourself, is there anyone you could ask, or maybe snap a photo and see how you look? I pretty much always hold up a shirt in front of a mirror before I try it on, to see if the color vibes well, but I know that's not exactly a scientific way of doing it. :-)

  19. I almost bought a pair of purple jeans today.  I went to Lord & Taylor to see if they had that first pair you linked, so I could try them on.  Instead, I found a pair of Joe's on clearance.  They looked fantastic on me.  But then I stopped myself.  I'm 40, who am I kidding?

  20. No way! I think you should go for it. :-) Check out the comments in this post. A bunch of women chimed in 40+ about wearing red jeans: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=372047692820973&set=a.324855397540203.100240.120030604689351&type=3&theater
