Today's Everyday Fashion: Pennies on the Dollar
I'm going to a blogger meet-up tonight and this is what I'm wearing. I'm especially proud of this outfit because each one of the items in the inspiration photo cost more than what I spend on clothes in a year. (I'm guessing her jacket is Chanel, shoes look Balenciaga and bag is Hermes.) I love getting the same satisfaction from an outfit without the huge price tag! I think no matter how much money I have in life, I will always feel that way about getting a good deal. Do you agree - do you love the satisfaction of shopping for a bargain no matter your budget?
Speaking of money, today is the last day to vote for me to win $100k in the Cheap Sally contest. I'm neck-and-neck with another Florida resident, so would appreciate any votes you can send my way! And if I win, I will NOT be changing anything about the way I shop or blog. But I will have the freedom to stop worrying about money for a couple years, which is nice. ;-) Please vote here.

Vote casted! I'm a new reader after seeing you on my Facebook feed for LOFT. Love all of the looks you create and your down-to-earth attitude about not having to spend a fortune to look great! Best of luck!!
ReplyDeleteSee you tonight!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I bargain shop, it's almost like a rush of adrenaline. Why spend $500 on a pair of shoes, when you can get so many things with that $500? Love how the dress and top go so well together. It looks like a dress :) Heather
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit! I love copying a look but spending way less!
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit! PS, I voted :)

Love this outfit...... and I love that (unlike the inspiration picture) you brushed your hair! That makes every outfit just a little better :)
ReplyDeleteI voted and tweeted - good luck girl!!
Hi J - I'd love to see a post about quality over quantity. You have tons of cute clothes that you got for a steal, but do they last year after year? How do you make sure to keep the price low and quality high? In particular, I find that anything with rayon has a very short life. :(
ReplyDeleteThis look is great! Love the color combo and the bit of animal print with your bag!
ReplyDeleteGoing to vote now!

I basically can't buy something if I don't feel like I'm getting a good deal on it... something in my DNA. Enjoy your meet up!

Meeee tooo! I call it "my father's voice in my head." I just love saving money! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea, thank you!! As you may have noticed, I wear tons of my clothes that I've had for more than 5 years (some of them from places like H&M and Forever 21) so I will definitely add this to my list of secrets to share in early 2012!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much and welcome to the blog! :-)
ReplyDeleteSee ya tonight Michelle!

I totally go for bargains, I love it when I find beautiful pieces for cheap price - or manage to DIY my clothes. Huge satisfaction. Get this, few weeks ago, I was checking through racks in one of my favourite shops, and found leggings - original price: 125 euros, but to me: 25 euros. How great is that!
ReplyDeleteI really love your blog, it's soo inspirational. And only today I realized I comment way too little here. Sorry for that. But anyways, Have a very fashionable and fabulous day! xoxo

Yes there's definitely nothing better than a good deal. Plus, I like your outfit better than the expensive one!
ReplyDeleteI think a great jacket totally makes an outfit - yours looks great! Have you ever done or considered doing a vlog on how you style your belts (especially the looping of the "excess" length)? I love the way you belt your dresses & skirts, but I have a hard time trying to duplicate it!
ReplyDeleteThank you Hilary! I explain how I belt things in this video, and my method doesn't require you to punch any new holes in your belt! :-) http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2010/11/video-how-to-belt-cardigan_12.html
ReplyDeleteLove it Johanna! And no need to ever apologize for not commenting. I appreciate you reading, and hopefully I can create content that will compel you to comment from time to time! :-)
ReplyDeleteAlways look for the bargains!! Good luck and I hope you win!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I love your blog: creativity, bargaining, taking care of old items /and wearing them again-again/, remixing them with new items, creating or finding our own style, and even THRIFTING : all are definitely positive words...in a way, much more ethic than being a trade-mark snob. creativity is over spending money, yesssss.
ReplyDeletemy grandma came from a real aristocrat family, you know...she taught me when I was a little girl: "never ever throw out too much money on vanities...money is for more important things of life! go for quality, but if a bag or something costs more than a whole family's weekly costs of dinner: FORGET IT!"
the girl on the inspirational pic is really pretty and I like her style..she's a student from Milan as I remember. but all I mentioned above seems less irrational than having tons of Guccis, Hermés items, Chanels...whoever could afford them in these days of global recession?
Thanks for your posts of RATIONAL CREATIVITY. I learn so much from you ! :-))))))
Loving this red blazer, I'm getting one for christmas and cannot wait!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've always adored that skirt!
ReplyDeleteawesome - thank you!
