Today's Everyday Fashion: The Sequin Suit

I've had this suit from Banana Republic for almost two years and I've never worn the two pieces together. The blazer and skirt might look familiar on their own - I've worn each on the blog quite a few times. But together? Never. At least not until I spotted this inspiration photo from Ann Taylor. I loved the idea of a monochromatic suit with a bit of sparkle to break things up. Add a dash of the python trend I'm digging right now (via shoes I've had for ages - proof that if you hold onto something long enough, it will come back in style!), and you have a great work look that can easily transition to night. Have you ever mixed suits and sequins?

  1. This is a fantastic outfit!  The monochromatic suit with the sequins is a great mixture together.  It adds some pizazz to what could potentially be just another boring business suit.  Snakeskin is a favorite of ours.  Just like leopard, it is a neutral and never goes out of style!    Heather & Kayla

  4. Luvin' the gray with the gold!  True style never goes out of style and you can use it season after season!

  10. I've never mixed suits and sequins but there is a first time for everything.  This would be a great idea for an office holiday party.

  11. If I can't think of anything to wear to the office, I throw on a sequin tank with my suits. It gives the entire look a little something extra.

  12. You are a Genius! I love each and every one of your looks J! I found your blog after searching for what to wear in November in Orlando (my family and I are holidaying there from November 11 - 18th). I have gone through your website's archives and I now know exactly what I am taking with me. I cannot thank you enough!

    Mervat.

PS Apart from taking our three children to the theme parks etc my hubby (who is a shopoholic!) and I have set aside a day and a half to shop. What are three top shopping destinations in Orlando that you would recommend?

  14. A traditional matte-gray (neutral) business suit with a *champagne*-colored (neutral) sequin top?............ c.l.a.s.s.y.!!    I could particularly see attending, say, a day-long Continuing Education Conference or an Inservice Seminar, wearing a traditional business suit, (in any matte, neutral color)............ WITH a *sequin* top, (in any complementary neutral color), under my suit jacket.

And also maybe my even wearing a sequin top, under my suit jacket, to have *just a little bit of sparkle* FOR my fellow Seminar-attendees to "idly look at," too, i.e., particularly if we thought the Seminar, (we were planning to attend), might possibly be............ LOOOONG and/or really tire our collective BRAINS out, (haha)!!    However, if you were presenting your Seminar on dressing well, J, your Seminar............ wouldn't ever seem long OR tiring, at all!!

  15. This is something I could actually wear to my job! Yay! Would have never thought to put sequins with a suit, but it seems so simple now. Thanks!

  16. I love the idea of this look but I know it'll never be in the cards for me. First, because I can never find a sparkly tank that doesn't have spaghetti straps and I need real straps to wear a real bra under. Second, because sparkly tops are always itchy! And third because I will never wear a suit in my profession. I'm a teacher, so a suit is a little too dressed up.
