Today's Everyday Fashion: The Express Suit

This post brought to you by Express. All opinions are 100% mine.

The challenge: style a suit using items from an Express store in under 15 minutes. Okay, I added on that last part (I was in a hurry that day) but I did recently team up with Express to style a look using pieces from their women's suits collection. My very first suit came from Express. My mom bought it for me when I was in college and I wore it to interviews for my first two professional jobs. (And of course, I still have it!) So needless to say, I am a big Express suit fan. This season, I am especially loving their widespread use of red, camel and tweed (picture below) and my favorite pieces were the ones I'm wearing because of how unique they are! I loved the two-toned blazer, and the cropped, pleated pants reminded me of the pants everyone is wearing in London right now. I couldn't resist pairing them with my favorite scarf top (I have had my eye on it for awhile) and some red pumps for a complete head-to-toe Express look. These pieces would also look great with a sequin shirt underneath and would be the perfect office-to-night look (just remove the jacket!). For a job interview I would add a black collared shirt and some conservative black pumps.

Want your own Express suit? For a limited time, you can enter the Express sweepstakes everyday for a chance to win a $500 suiting makeover! Tell me - what is your favorite kind of suit and why?

Blazer, Pants, Shirt and Shoes - all from Express. The total for everything with a coupon was $230. (Not sure which pieces I'm keeping yet!)

  1. What a unique suit! It's really cool, especially the blazer.  The black buttons on the arm look so neat contrasting against the white!

I like suits that can be broken up to mix and match other pieces in my wardrobe.  A red suit would be nice to have!

  3. Not feeling this as a suit for work.  I think it might be a bit shiny.  For cocktails, definitely fun!

  8. Annie, I agree this suit would be great for cocktails! It's really hard to generalize almost any outfit as "work" since work dress codes vary so widely. In some places this would be way too dressed up, and in others it wouldn't be professional enough!

  10. How funny! My first professional suit was from Express, too. Got me through a couple of interviews, including the one for the job I'm still at now!

  11. I don't normally like suits, but this version is very fun and fashion forward while still being professional.  Great job!

  13. My first suit was from Express too! I now prefer The Limited's suits WAY more though. For some reason, the pants at Express are always too big in the waist, so I have to have a tailor take them in...which costs money. The Limited's pants fit me just right with no tailoring.

  14. I am so glad to see you wearing these suede wedges! I have a black Kate Spade pair http://theshoegoddess.com/2010/08/kate-spade-%E2%80%9Cbuffy%E2%80%9D-suede-wedges.html
that I got for a steal a while back, but haven't worn yet. My hubby thinks the are hideous, what does he know!
what do you think of them? what would you wear them with?

  16. Dana, I'm totally loving wedge pumps right now! One of my favorite shoes for fall, so these are super-cute. I love them with cropped pants like I did here, a pencil skirt, some skinny jeans. Especially in black, they would pretty much work with anything!

  18. you are right I can't see her hand in these but if you read what i said then you would understand... I said I noticed you never wear your wedding rings anymore. I said nothing about only today's outfit. And i didn't know she moved. I remember she didn't have internet but I didn't put two and two together.

  19. I really like blazers that have a contrasting----(but not "jarring")----solid-color MATERIAL for lapels;  trim;  or piping;  and/or contrasting solid-color BUTTONS, as your Crepe Satin Contrast Lapel Jacket has.    There are so many additional skirts/pants *options* to PAIR with a two-toned blazer............ that make for a very attractive, coordinated-color "suit look," i.e., as you've done with your black pants............ (and maybe skirts/pants in a complementary-color also would work with your two-toned blazer for an attractive "suit look," too)!!

The very tops of the lapels (on your blazer) look like classic chevrons to me----*neat*!!

  21. J, Love that top from Express! I actually just got that same top but in the other color it was offered in. Its a really pretty blue/green/purple combo!

  22. She posted an outfit that she wore shopping for furniture... and mentioned she was without internet for a few days... and hasn't worn her wedding rings since before Europe... it doesn't take a rocket scientist.

  23. funny how it was a question to J yet everyone else wants to be rude and comment on it. Why doesn't every one let J speak for herself!

  24. J...you are just like a celebrity...people wanting to know about your personal life as well..I guess it's a good thing...

  26. I love a classic grey skirt suit!  I think it's so much fun to add a pop of color (blue or coral) with the top.
