Today's Everyday Fashion: The Red Skirt

What is it about red and denim that is so preppy and American? I recently featured this red skirt in my Fall 2011 Shopping Guide, and then was lucky enough to stumble upon the same skirt on MJR Sales for only $17! I balanced out the tight-fitting bottom by wearing it with a loose and boyish top. I love that it makes my straight as a board body look like I have J.Lo curves. :-) The material is very stretchy, which can make it hard to tuck in a shirt like this without it showing through, but I like that it's soft and comfy and it fits true to size (I got a 2, but I think a 4 also could have worked). Red is one of my favorite colors for fall so I have a feeling I will be posting with it often!

  2. Love this outfit! I have a crush on red now and when you did your article on the Fall guide I ordered the ASOS skirt in red and can't wait for it to arrive. I have a denim shirt like this so I guess I will be rocking this to church this weekend!

  4. Love this outfit.  I'm trying to be responsible and budget my spending for all of the Labor Day weekend sales (I think that will be my entire September spending right there!), and I just can't decide what I want in red.  I have a red skirt already, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to spring for a red handbag or just play it safe with a red blouse.  Decisions, decisions!

  6. You look great!  The way the looser top works does give your curves!  You go girl!  I need to do this too, because I love to look curvier as well.  :)  Red is definitely your color, and it is super hot for fall!  I did a whole blog post on wearing all red because I love it so much!

  10. Jen, providing my size is just part of my review so people know what size they should order. Sorry if you perceived that as showing off. I wasn't. :-)

  11. I love this outfit!! You look great in that skirt and it will be such a great piece for fall! I can totally see you styling it with a pretty tucked in blousy tank for a date night!! I've never been that into red but I'm liking the idea of wearing it on bottom! I'll be on the lookout now!

  13. Thank you CC! Very true about the long sleeves. This blog is more of a magazine format so I'm not actually wearing this today but for the most part it's too hot in Florida right now for pretty much anything! :-)

  14. I am a size 0 AFTER I had a baby. I don't think it's skinny if you're healthy. Telling someone they're so skinny is just rude. She was just providing her size for people to see how the skirt fits.

  15. love the skirt and the shoes! We are so lacking in great bargain fashion shops here is little old west coast of Australia! It's either trashy or high end!

As someone who isn't massively into fashion (versus liking clothes!) I have to say I love your blog - now that Im a bit older I am more concious of what I wear and how what you wear can really make you feel great. Thanks for all the inspiration!

  17. If you'll notice, she did not use punctuation.  It would appear she meant thanks for sharing the outfit, and she was most likely trying to give a compliment about the size.

  19. i think that instead of using that you should of used a different shirt with this penci skirt. I mean its great that you like to be bold and be out there but the shirt was a bit too much.

  20. the skirt is cute but I don't care for it with the top.  too much contrast.

  21. I love this look, so preppy, chic, polish and unexpected. You have dressed up this light blue jean shirt or dressed down that amazing, red pencil skirt. I am a big fan. This is a fresh, unique take on these 2 pieces.
