Today's Everyday Fashion: Unlikely Duo

I saw this inspiration photo and loved the color combo of the mustard yellow and purplish gray. I went to my closet and selected the items that were the closest in color - even though they were reversed and even though it seemed like they would never go together. The result is this somewhat quirky combination that I totally love! I normally see this skirt as being very futuristic, something to wear out for a sexy date night, and the shirt is a t-shirt I wear to the grocery story. But something about the blending of the two worlds really appeals to me and takes an ordinary idea into something fun and different! What are some fun, quirky pairings you've discovered in your closet?

  3. Love mustard and grey together (or yellow & grey).  I call it "grellow"

I just recently did yellow and pink - something I would have never thought of but they were side by side in the laundry pile! I call it laundry inspiration, lol!

  4. I've been surprised at mustard and turquoise; purple and olive; purple and turquoise; purple and red; and hot pink and orange as combos.

  5. I've done yellow and gray together, and I like it too. I guess my most unexpected pairing is teal and brown. The combo really works and makes me feel very earthy.

I want to go shopping with you! You get the best deals on clothes. It must pay to wait for sales!

  7. Love the two colors here. I recently pulled a black and white polka dot dress and tucked it into a purple and black geometric pattern skirt. It may have been too many patterns for some, but I loved it.

  11. The reason I love unusual combinations is that it allows me to wear pieces I might not normally wear (except for a date/special occasion/etc)  I also like the idea of toning down a fancy/statement piece with a basic tee (like you did here)  I've done just that with a pleated skirt I pulled out of a 80s suit set, haha!
