Fall 2011 Shopping Guide (Everything Under $100)

It’s that time of year again! It may be blazing hot outside, but fall fashion is already on everyone’s minds. Here are my top 10 trends for fall 2011 (many of which you can start wearing now!) and where to buy them for under $100.

1. Colorful Skinny Jeans
Colorful skinny jeans work well with bright colors in the summer months, but pair them with neutrals like black boots and camel coats this fall for a fun pop of color.

High Gloss Fashion Bright Blue Skinnies, $29
Forever 21 Premium Denim Colored Skinnies, $22.80
Cheap Monday jeans via YOOX, $45
Mstyle lab jeans via Macy’s, $34

2. Leopard Pumps
Leopard is still going strong this year, but this fall I’m focusing on adding one important piece to my closet—leopard-print shoes! They look great paired with other trends, like this fall’s standout color, red.

Mossimo Black Versie Pumps via Target, $29.99
Colin Stuart Platform Pump via Victoria’s Secret, $68
Steve Madden “Koool-P” Ballet Flats via Bloomingdales, $90
Express Leopard Pointed-Toe Wedges, $59.90

3. Polka Dots
This fall, polka dots are everywhere. Layer this fun print with other prints or let them take center stage by pairing them with flared jeans or a high-waisted skirt.

Banana Republic Polka dot cardigan, $69.50
Piperlime Daniel Rainn Polka Dot Top, $64
Delia's Polka Dot Dress, $34.50
Forever 21 Polka Dot Top, $15.80

4. Brooches
Brooches are popping up everywhere this autumn. Take advantage of this versatile statement-maker by dressing up a coat, blazer or sweater with one, or by adding it to a statement necklace.

Chico’s Hanzila Pin, $39
Anne Klein Anchor Pin, $19.99
ASOS Silky Clip, $3.66
ASOS And Mary Vintage Brooch, $17.24

5. Red
Without a doubt the standout color this season is red. Some skin tones work better with red than others, but anyone can wear the color away from their face with red jeans or even red shoes.

Urban Outfitters BDG Cigarette High-Rise Jean, $58
The Limited Woven Tee with Pocket, $39.90
Victoria’s Secret Pencil Skirt, $49.50
Urban Outfitters Sparkle & Fade Pleated Chiffon Mini Skirt, $49

6. Capes
Sweater capes look great with skinny jeans and boots for fall. Invest in a soft material that will keep you warm and looking stylish all season long.

Nordstrom Casion Button Front Hooded Poncho, $89
Almeria Cape via YOOX, $65
Hive & Honey Cabled Cocoon Poncho via Piperlime, $69
Pure Handknit Spring Fling Poncho via Neiman Marcus, $60

7. Boat shoes
This fall’s boat shoe trend is one of those rare times when function meets style. Pair them with a cute dress and a trench coat on a rainy day or with some jeans and a cape sweater for running errands.

Sperry Monatauk Leather Boat Shoe via Nordstrom, $89.95
Sperry Original 2-Eye Khaki, $90
Sperry Authentic Original Boat Shoe via Nordstrom, $69.95
Sperry Angelfish Boat Shoe via Nordstrom, $74.95

8. Cobalt Blue
Another hot color this fall is cobalt blue. So many items are available in this great hue—invest in a blazer, drapeneck dress or a pencil skirt for work, or a casual shirt for weekends.

Aqua Bright Girlfriend Blazer via Bloomingdales, $88
ASOS Kimono Waisted Dress with Belt, $60.34
The Limited Twist-detail Drapeneck Top, $32.90
ASOS Midi Pencil Skirt with Front Split, $60.34

9. Colorblocking
Colorblocking is still a huge trend for fall, and I’m especially loving these geometric shapes in neutral colors that are sure to spice up any fall wardrobe.

J.Crew Perfect-fit colorblock tee, $39.50
Forever 21 Colorblock Dress, $19.80
Limited Colorblock Boxy Tee, $46.90
Ann Taylor Color Block Pencil Skirt, $88

10. Trench Coats
Trench coats are a classic that have been around forever, but this fall choose one in a fun colors like lime green or punchy prints like zebra or leopard.

ASOS Classic Trench, $94.81
Anne Klein Trench Coat, $98.99

Thanks for sharing this! Some other bloggers actually CHARGE their readers money in order to see their "Fall Picks." Just another reason why you're my favorite fashion blogger!

  15. The colorful skinny jeans are my favorite fall trend! Finally, its not just my tops that will be colorful. Those green skinny jeans will be mine :)

Love that you did this fall post right at the end of the month too ... it will help me plan and allocate September's budget!

    Great post!

  16. Wow! I surprisingly have at least one of everything on this list already in my closet. I bought a cobalt blue trench coat years ago at Maurices when it was on clearance for $25 dollars. I love trenches and have plenty so I generally push that one aside, but it will be perfect for this fall!

  18. I'm so happy to say that I love all of these trends!! As much as I am sad about summer ending (and in SF we are still waiting for it to get hot) I am really excited about all of the great fall fashion! I am loving the colored jeans- I actually just bought a berry colored pair from Zara that I think will be great and am dying to get those Kelly green ones as well! I too, think leopard print shoes are a fun way to work the trend and am trying to find the perfect pair. I'm so glad that trenches, boat shoes and capes are in for fall because I loaded up on them last year! The one thing I'm having trouble with is the boat shoes-- I rarely wear flat shoes so I'm having trouble styling them! And I love that cobalt blue color! It's one of my faves!

  19. I already got the red skinnies and the leopard shoes :) Love the polka dots, hadn't thought about them for fall, but will get that forever 21 top for sure!!

  20. I love your blog and all your tips for fall/winter.  Any suggestions for maternity basics for fall/winter for the preggo who still wants to look stylish with a bump?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am already in love with lots of these! Cobalt blue, topsiders, trench coats, and leopard pumps. I don't have anything leopard currently, so I guess I need to get on that! :-) Also interested in trying the color blocking.

  22. Thanks Ingrid! I think all of these trends would work for a preggo bump (except maybe the bright skinnies!). I think some leggings (or really stretchy jeans), a long shirt, the cape sweater and the boat shoes would make for a super-practical and yet stylish outfit for fall!

  23. Emily, I'm really excited to start styling my boat shoes and will be posting some outfits soon! Stay tuned! :-)

  24. Awesome shopping guide J!  I have most of these pieces in my closet already, which is great.  I can save some money this fall by shopping my closet.  The only thing I don't have is a pair of colorful skinnies.  I plan to buy a pair in cobalt or green.  Thanks!!!

  26. I don't know if I could rock the Poncho idea.... I'm a big shoulder'd girl, and super athletic... I think this would just make me look big all over, I'll have to try it on.
Also, side note, I was in H&M yesterday and they have cute trench coats for $35-$50 and they are super cute too.
    Love everything you suggested!

  28. Glad to see boat shoes are a trend this fall. I already pair mine with some casual dresses! I'm really digging the red pencil skirt. I need to invest in one of these!

  29. I love everything on your list. As a side note, i am amazed (and loving it) about how much influence there is from the 1960s fashion trends. My favorite outfit this Fall will be my red pencil skirt (victoria's secret), black drapeneck top with a brooch and leopard pumps...a la Mad Men :)
