Today's Everyday Fashion: Olsen Style

"Hey look it's one of the Olsen twins. Oh wait, that's J..." Easy mistake guys, happens *all* the time. ;-p Joking aside, I am actually a huge fan of the Olsen's style. I may not understand their constant use of over-sized clothes, but I still find them to be very chic and a huge source of inspiration. I borrowed the general theme of this photo but stuck with silhouettes that work well for me (and what was already hiding in my closet). What surprising celebrities do you take style inspiration from?

  1. I'm a fan of big sunglasses but, there's something about the Olsen twins wearing them that just looks ridiculous half the time. I think their heads are too tiny for them or something!

  2. Great Look J!  Yours look is so much more sophisticated, yet casual.  Your handbag rocks too!

  5. First of all, love your shorts!!!
And in terms of the Olsen twins...I really want to look to them for inspiration, as they are my size, but just never think they really wear things that flatter their petite frames...and their posture is lacking (in my opinion) which only exacerbates the over-sized-ness of their clothing.  I agree, I can draw inspiration but like to make it work for me! (and drowning in my clothes does not work for me)

PS Check out this vogue article about breaking the rules and playing with volume.  I like that they are challenging you to think outside the box...but not sure if I necessarily agree that it works for everyone.

  6. Amanda, I totally agree about the large clothes and their petite frames. I've always felt like they use clothes to shield themselves from the world - maybe because they were famous at such a young age? Thank you for the Vogue article though, I loved it!

  7. Love this look!  I get style inspiration from Kim Kardashian...I know some people don't like her, but I just love her style and the way she embraces her curves, it makes me proud to embrace mine :)

  8. Lol!  You're too funny!  Love those shorts!  I LOVE Olivia Palermo's style and I do like the Olsen girls' usually, but sometimes they do get a little baggy for my taste!  I love how you re-mixed this one though!! :)

  10. J, so you totally inspired me to do my own Olsen-twin-style post!  I'd love it if you checked it out!  And I linked to your post too!
And, I really like your insight as to why they dress like they do, makes perfect sense!

  13. So casual but still so much style in it.  I have a question for you, could you provide some recommendations on how to wear belts at your natural waist?  I wear my pants and skirts lower, at my hips, and usually use my simple think belts to wear down low.  But I've recently been collecting wider belts that have elastic at the back and the buckles/holes at front (does that make sense? Many Forever21 belts are this style, like a faux belt). So the elastic really makes it tough to wear down at hte hips.  So I am trying to figure out how to wear them at my natural waist just above my belly button.  Do i need to keep my shirt untucked so the belt doesn't compete with the waistband of my skirt or pants?  The only two ways I can think of wearing them are either over dresses or over a long tunic style shirt... any suggestion would be greatly appreciated, I ahve a great collection i want to start incorporating into my wardrobe.  Thank you J!!

  14. Isabella, I have a few stretchy belts like that, so I think I know what you are talking about!  I wear them over dresses and tunic shirts like you mentioned. I have also worn one over a blazer: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.213402672018810.68316.120030604689351&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=219076228118121&set=a.213402672018810.68316.120030604689351&type=1&theater And you can do one over an open cardigan, like I did here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.120092174683194.18614.120030604689351&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=136033329755745&set=a.120092174683194.18614.120030604689351&type=1&theater Hope this helps!

  17. Thank you Kquinn, so glad you like the blog! I have placed 5-6 orders with MJR Sales so far and have always been very happy with them. I think they really under-promise and over-deliver for the most part. A lot of the items I ordered had small marks or defects listed but when I got the clothes I couldn't even find what they were talking about. And because the clothes are all brand-name you know they are quality to begin with! Be sure to check the return policy before you order though, and for all my tips read this post: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/03/todays-everyday-fashion-my-new.html

As for the purse, check out this past post where I reviewed the same purse in orange: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/06/todays-everyday-fashion-purse-challenge.html I go on and on about the vegan leather looking ex-actly like real leather and it's true! For someone like me on a tight budget I think these bags are an awesome choice. Today's brown bag will be my go-to all fall, I can already tell. :-)
