Today's Everyday Fashion: Diving Sticks

I was one of those kids that could swim before I could walk. I grew up exactly one block away from my grandpa, and he had a full-sized underground pool (a real luxury for a Kansas resident), and I was there - all. the. time. I had all my birthday parties at that pool, I spent every waking moment of summer at that pool. To this day, I love pools. What does this have to do with today's outfit? Well, one of my very favorite things as a kid were my diving sticks. Sure, I loved to dive for things, but mostly I was just obsessed with their neon colors. To this day, I always think about those sticks as a fashion influence and today's outfit was inspired by their colorful delight. Do you have any fashion influences from childhood? If so, what are they?

  1. If I used any of my childhood memories as a fashion influence, I'd look like a hot mess. ;)

I love the color blocking in this outfit! So fun!

  2. My grandparents had a full underground pool that we would dive in every Sunday as kids. We used bright colored rings though, not sticks. Love the outfit, so bright!

  5. I'm giddy that the neon of the 80's is coming back. Katy Perry rocks it and I'm trying to incorporate more updated pieces into my style.

  6. That's funny you posted this. We were just at the pool playing with dive sticks! My 6 year old daughter had a blast today because of those.

You look much more fashionable than our pool stick colors (I think they were made for boys), but I really love your outfit today. The green purse is a nice unexpected color with the rest of your outfit.

  7. Yay! The neon belt from the GAP makes an appearance! I love how you styled that...I might have to run there over lunch and pick up that belt. I've been eyeing it but can't figure out what to wear with it. Now I have inspiration!

  10. I swear we come from the exact same background!  I am from KS...grew up in a small town and went to a small Christian school (graduating class of 13).  I too lived right by my Grandpa and Grandma that had a swimming pool and spent every summer break at that pool from morning until dark.  Too funny!

  11. Susanna, that is crazy!! What school did you go to? I went to Maranatha for high school. When I was little I lived in Olathe next to my grandpa. We moved to the country in Gardner when I was in 4th grade. Don't tell me that's your story too haha! :-)

  12. I grew up in McPherson and went to Elyria Christian school (from 6th-12th).  KS is a great place to be from, but so glad I don't live there anymore -  I almost die from the wind everytime I go back to visit family! :) When you tell people that you are from KS, do they all ask if your dad was a farmer?  Ha!  I get that question everytime!

  13. Yes!! People ask if I lived on a farm, and they usually make a Wizard of Oz reference! Every time I go back I'm in shock at how flat it is, and how short all the buildings are. :-)

  14. This is so cute. I also grew up at my grandpa's big inground pool. I miss those days. I had diving rings I think. Kids these days don't know what they're missing!

  18. If you live near a DSW or Nordstrom Rack, they should still have them in stores! I just picked mine up a couple weeks ago. No one has been able to locate them online though.

  19. I Love this outfit and I love your weird, unique inspiration. Hey whatever inspires you and whatever makes you happy. You have mixed many brights here: Purple, Turquoise, Kelly Green, Yellow and Orange for a great, chic look. Love that you kept your shoes nude, though.
