Flashback Friday: White Skinny Jeans

[Click the photo to view it larger.] White jeans are the ultimate staple for me. I have always loved them - as flares, as bootcut and most recently, my cropped skinnies from Gap ($35, two summers ago). I wore them in college in Kansas, I wore them when I lived in Boston with boots and a coat, and I wear them now in Florida with anything and everything! I've paired them with red shoes, brown boots, gold sandals and nude pumps to name a few, and tops in bright or neutral colors. I think white pants are the ultimate blank canvas and pretty much anything goes! Are white jeans a staple for you?

White jeans options

1. High Gloss Fashion jeans, $45

  1. White jeans are totally a staple of mine.  I'm actually wearing them today. =)

  2. I love them! I live in Iowa, and someone told me you can't wear white before Memorial day, or after Labor day. Have you ever heard this? That gives me only 3 months to wear them.

  3. I say who cares about the "fashion rules" of white jeans!  You can wear them all year round in my opinion.  Even living in Iowa you can "winterize" them.

  4. White jeans are definitely a staple.  I have them in skinny crops and flares.  They are the ultimate summer staple, but you can definitely wear them year round.  You proved that by wearing them with your boots and blazer in the above photo.  Imagine a pair of white skinny jeans with a big comfy oversized sweater in the fall or winter?

  5. I have always wanted to wear white jeans but I am scared I will spill all over myself!  All your outfits with white jeans are super cute!

  6. I got three pairs of white Levi's (for $14.99 each!) and have dyed two of them bright colors (torquoise and purple) and kept the other one white.  They look great!

  7. you can wear all what you want when you want, you feel comfortable with it, wear it, forget about "fashion rules"

  8. I've been dying to find a pair of white jeans and have searched & searched for the perfect pair but I've had no luck... I've seen a few online but I am always reluctant to buy online. Hopefully my search will end soon! (I did find a super cute pair of coral skinny cropped from Joe for $9.95 on sale (and, on tax free day!) but, no white )

  11. I * LOVE * white pants...I don't own white jeans, but LOVE white crops/capris.  I have multiple pairs in multiple lengths and I wear them at least once a week during the summer.  I still go by the labor day rule, though.  I can't make myself wear white pants after that (I live in GA where it is HOT up until usually October), so it stinks that I can't get past that rule branded in my head.  I feel people will look at me funny and think I don't know the 'fashion rules'.  LOL  Since you live in FL, I think you can get by w/ wearing them all the time....what do you think about the labor day 'rule'?

    ReplyDelete
  12. The 'rule' is you are referring to is actually you shouldn't wear white pants (or whatever) before EASTER (not Memorial day) and after Labor day.

  13. I recently fell in love with white pants. I used to be way too scared to wear them as I always thought I would sit down in something or get a stain on them. I have now conquered that fear, bought a pair of white trousers for $9 on sale at Club Monaco (originally $70) and wear them at least once a week! I even took them to Paris and did not get them dirty once. I think I will need to invest in a pair of white skinnies now that summer items are going on sale.

  14. I have heard of the rule, but I think it's really silly and outdated. :-) I used to wear white jeans in the snow in Boston. It's all in how you dress them. In one of my outfits above I'm wearing knee-high brown boots and a navy winter coat. I think it's just the same as a white collared shirt - you can wear that year round too, just depends on what you are wearing with it!

  15. ps. I posed this question about white jeans last March - here's a link to the Facebook discussion. General consensus is that you should go by weather/how warm it is and not the date! http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.163483153677429.45093.120030604689351&type=1#!/photo.php?fbid=204778296214581&set=a.163483153677429.45093.120030604689351&type=1&theater

  16. HIlliary, I've spilled on these jeans more times than I can count but they are amazingly resilient! Everything has always come out really easily.

  19. and who's "rule" is that? NOT MINE! LOL! ;D  just like J, I agree that you can wear white pants ALL year around... it all depends how you dress them!
there are so many 'fashion rules' that are nicely broken out there... like not wearing 'denim with denim' or pairing brown and black? really?  It's ALL on how you style it (if it's done with taste, of course, it will work! you can always make online research on how to wear something you're scared of and get some inspiration... or check out Polyvore... its a great page to find fab outfit ideas!)

I used to live in Ohio/WV/Pittsburgh area -where it was always like cold and white like Narnia (flashback... horror!) and wore my white jeans whenever I wanted!

I think white jeans look FAB with tan boots in winter! (and always got many compliments to prove me right! lol) - also, VS winter catalog many times show their models in light pants in the snow, etc... most of the time in cords, i must say, but I can recall seeing them in white jeans as well, cuz that's were I got the inspiration, and ever since then, I've been rocking them! ;-D

So, I say 'people: don't get stuck with fashion rules given by those who have not taken the risk to brake them! in a fashionable way! (of course!) ;-)

  20. I love white jeans...i can wear them dressed up in heels, or dress it down in flats and tunic (kinda like tights), I dont know something about white jeans - they feel more dressed up than regular jeans!

  21. I have white slacks for summer which I love. I found a pair of just off white jeans with a hint of gold flecks in them at H&M for $5. I wear them all year because they aren't quite white. I don't usually follow rules but I do follow this one. I like the not after easter rule though, instead of after labor day.

  22. White skinny jeans are definitely a staple of mine too. I love how you can dress them up and down and always look classy. Thanks for the ideas!

  25. I love my white jeans but I have honestly only worn them like twice because I feel like I can never figure out a great outfit to put together. Thanks for all these awesome options!!

  28. what's your opinion about wearing them in winter??? is it ok??

    ReplyDelete
  29. totally a staple for me.  Wore them yesterday.  It's dangerous to wear them shopping too.  Everything goes w/'em, as you've proven here.

  30. I was just thinking of you today, because I love your outfits with white skinny jeans. I'm wearing a pair of white cotton capris, and was wishing I had some white skinny jeans. You've confirmed my thought, so now I have some shopping to do! What's your opinion about not wearing white after labor day?

  31. You inspired me to wear mine - which have been lonely in my closet for almost a year!

  32. I finally just bought myself a pair of white skinny jeans. For some reason I had been stumbling over the size -- tight throughout meant too-tight in my waist ( common problem for me). Finally I sized up, two sizes. For some reason they are still slim, just not skin tight. Long story short, I haven't been able to take them off!! So I'll need lots of ideas for how to wear them EVERY. DAY. It appears I don't have to look any further. Thanks!!

  33. I love the skinny white jeans look...can you believe I still don't own a pair?!  You've inspired me to buy some....I've always been afraid too but I think I can make it work with your pictures to inspire me ;)

Is it a fashion faux pas to wear them after labor day?!

  36. Christine, I think you can wear white jeans year round! I used to
wear them in Boston in the snow by pairing them with a winter coat and
knee-high boots. And if you aren't comfy wearing them in the snow, I
would still go by weather and not the date. So if it's 85 and sunny in
March then go for it! :-)

  38. Suzanne, I think most women can wear them, although it's kind of shocking the first time you see yourself in them. (It's hard not to feel like they are making your hips look huge) I think if someone is really hippy, then a bootcut might be better for them, but otherwise I say it's worth trying! If you aren't sure about them, take a picture of yourself in them to see how they look.

  39. Awesome, thanks so much J! I'm definitely going to go by what you said and rock 'em year round...now I just need to find me the perfect pair ;)
