Today's Everyday Fashion: Hot Pink Shorts
Have you ever bought something that you absolutely love, but you can't figure out what to wear with it, so it just sits in your closet? This happens to me all the time. I'm usually pretty confident that I'll be able to style an item so I go ahead and buy it, but then it takes many tries before I find something that works. Take these hot pink shorts. I love them - I love that they are linen (perfect for sweaty summers), hot pink is my favorite color at the moment, and they are really comfy. But I'm still playing around with them and figuring out what to wear them with (I feel like the linen makes them hard to dress up). I've come up with these two casual looks so far. I would wear these to a day at Disney or running errands. What would you pair these pink shorts with? What items have you bought but then had trouble styling?

I would definitely pair them with a striped top (navy & white/ black & white/ or even gray combo stripes!)... I think it would even look cute with a peasant top... or a top of the sort that is either too 'mute' in colors, or too heavy is patterns, etc and needs that one piece to calm it down, without loosing the fun! ;)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love my hot pink shorts from jcrew. I like to pair them with a fresh white tee shirt and a colorful necklace (pale blue looks pretty) with gold sandals.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add that I have been looking for shorts like that, hence I've got this tribal print top (in navy and cream) and it just looks too boring even with white capris! but with these shorts... uffffffffffff I hit the jackpot!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D bdw, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your blog! I read it every day and am your facebook fan! am so glad you're sharing your style sense with us! Thanks!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have these same shorts and I paired it with a black and white polka dot shirt the first time i wore it. Love the orange with it!

I just bought hot pink shorts from jcrew! I loved the color but the only tops I could picture them with are white and black. I was also thinking a lime green and I love the light pink you have on there.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably wear them with a white blouse. I could picture myself wearing them with white button-down. I don't think I'd pair them with orange but I like the second look.
ReplyDeleteNavy blue, maybe even sailor-style might work, too, I think.
i love love love those hot pink shorts! I'd pair them with a simple white tank or shirt and a cool statement necklace :)
ReplyDeleteI would pair the shorts with a white or navy button down and roll the cuffs up on the sleeves.
ReplyDeleteJ, I love the shorts, and I love the 2 looks you made! I used to have a pair of hot pink shorts and I wore them with a green, white and pale pink patterned top. You could definitely also do white (obviously)..and I love the idea of bright green that someone else posted. Just avoid black sandals and accessories or you will look like an adorable little watermelon! hehehe I really like the orange with it though! So fresh for summer.
ReplyDeleteI have issues styling this dress I bought because I thought it was too edgy for me. Then I realized with some red lipstick and smoky eyes, I was totally edgy! I love your pink shorts and you styled them so well for summer! It always makes me happy to see outfits with no neutrals- it's like a smorgasbord (sp?) of color!!
ReplyDeleteI like both. In fact pink and orange go togetherin my book!! I have a pair of pink and orange strappy sandals and a pink and orange and cream handbag. Black andwhite is fine but predictable!
ReplyDeleteI like gray & navy with hot pink... they work as neutrals against the bright color, but the contrast isn't as stark as with black or white. Try the linen with metallic wedges & a silky top to dress them up. The shorts are super-cute!
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing hot pink EVERYWHERE this summer. I think shorts are a great way to venture into bold color territory, and I'm still kicking myself on missing out on these F21 ones. Pairing them with neutrals are the easy way out, so I'm glad you went big and bold with other colors!
ReplyDeleteLove the shorts! You can totally wear a blouse with those too to dress them up too! A black and white polka dots blouse would be awesome with some black heels. The first look is so cute and you have the same heels as the model on the left that you wear with many of your looks. The possibilities are endless with these. Great buy! I need some more shorts that have color!
ReplyDelete@openid-80945:disqus I just discovered that F21 has VERY similar shorts in stock right now. Type in style #2062098381! :-)
ReplyDeleteI discovered your blog recently. Love hot pink and already regress I did not buy a cardigan in this color today.
ReplyDeleteA black and white polka dot blouse is just what I was thinking too!
ReplyDeleteI would pair them with Red, or White, or a floral print tank, Polka Dots sounds good too :)

Wow, I am so jealous of your tan!! The pink makes you look even more tan! Love those shorts, especially with the red tank!

im not too adventerous when i wear my clothes so i would pair the shorts with a crisp white tshirt, a navy top or a dark brown top. love them tho!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I do that all the time. This is why there are tons of items in my closet with the tags still on them, yet I have "nothing" to wear. LOL :)
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I love both outfits. Very cute! Although for the first one, I would go with either a blue or maybe even yellow top. The way you have it works though.. that's just what I'd do!

I find that navy and hot pink are a match made in heaven!
ReplyDeleteThank you J!
ReplyDelete@google-c976bcfcc8cc49f1217c0d32328cee06:disqus Neons have a way of making me look insanely tan. In all of the other pictures I took that day, I didn't look anywhere near this tan, it's so weird!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for all of your styling ideas! Love 'em!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm currently obsessing on bright bottoms and took the plunge with bright pink jean shorts. I like to style it with a loose/flowy top tucked in. I think it makes it look more grown up.

Hi J, I love your blog! I just came across it a couple of weeks ago and can't get enough of your creative tips and inspiration.
ReplyDeleteAbout your adorable pink shorts... one of my favorite ways to wear shorts (of almost ANY color or fabric) is with a tucked-in collared button-up shirt, belt, and cute sandals (both heels & flats work great). The first idea that popped into my head (though--fair warning--my tastes often veer toward the shamelessly preppy) was to pair them with a white oxford and delicate camel-colored belt/shoes. I use this combo all the time with bright red shorts, and I think it would work just as well with hot pink. Add some turquoise accessories, and away we go. :)

ReplyDeletefun! the definition of HOT pants!

Alright...I just ordered the hot pink shorts from Forever 21...Keeping my fingers crossed that they fit!! I just love the hot pink and orange combo. Can't wait to try it out!!
ReplyDeleteThese shorts are super cute and the price is just right! It's funny...lately I've been trying to get out of buying Forever 21 clothing but after following your blog and seeing your wear there stuff you are pulling me back into their store. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way! I always swear I'm going to stop buying from there, but they always suck me back in. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's because of the prices! And everything is so stylish! I just want to have a well rounded closet. Cant have everything from there.
ReplyDeleteAre your shoes Rampage Dania in gold? Love them!!
ReplyDeleteStephanie, they are by Rampage and they are gold, but not sure of the style name!
ReplyDeletei was just wondering, what size did u get the shorts in? i know you had mentioned that you usually get a medium at forever21 but just wanted to double check b/c my measurements seem to be similar to yours. thank u! and congratulations on the new website :)
ReplyDeleteThank you nj! I got a medium in these and they are too big, but I ordered them online so just decided to go with it. I rolled them up and that helped a lot. (ps. The current pink shorts are NOT the same as mine, mine are sold out, so I'm not sure if the sizing is the same!)
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of yellow shoes that I recently purchased from Charlotte Russe. The shoes are AWESOME but so far the 2 outfits I have paired them with haven't been the greatest. It's been more like 'look at those cute yellow shoes' instead of 'look at how those yellow shoes complete the outfi't. But I'm sure I'll figure it out.
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of yellow pumps, I've worn them quite a few times. If you want some ideas, check out my photo albums called "J's Everyday Outfits" on Facebook (it's the easiest way to see my 400+ outfits in one place). Here is one example, but there are at least 10: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.213402672018810.68316.120030604689351#!/photo.php?fbid=222355307790213&set=a.213402672018810.68316.120030604689351&type=1&theater
ReplyDeleteI love them both ways, casual and cute. I would also try these with your Hot Pink Stilettos and that amazing Royal Blue blouse you wore at a recent post (that you paired with your light sky-blur pencil skirt). The look I described would be great for a night out in Florida, esp. in Miami. Also these hot pink shorts would look great with a mellow yellow/banana colored top, underneath.
