Today's Everyday Fashion: Name Your Spice Girl

Last week I admitted to being a creature of habit - shopping at the same stores, eating the same food. Many of you indicated you were the same way, which was nice because then I felt a little more normal. :-) I also noticed that I favor certain trends though. I love military (today's look), equestrian, preppy and girlie. I'll try anything once, but it's less likely you'll see me in punk, vintage, sporty or glamorous. Of course, these are just labels and the best compliment I think you can get is that you just look like yourself! That said, I would love to hear what your favorite types of style are. Are you military, boho, equestrian, preppy, girlie, punk, vintage, sporty, glamorous or all of the above? Another way to ask this question: which Spice Girl are you? [I always wanted to be Posh.]

I am a creature of habit as well, but blogging as brought me way out of my box. I tend to love the military (because of the green, one of my best colors), but am acutally a boho-chic lady (because I need a creative outlet)!! I was never a Spice Girls Fan....but I will create a new one....Dignified Spice....that's a dignified (not stodgy) chic trendy woman!!!!

  2. I love today's look. I have becone addicted to your blog... that's the first web page I open in the morning ! I like to see the pieces you have, since I wouldn't try them on at the store. You made me want to explore new stores and become more adventurous with shopping !
I'll definitely be a posh spice. That's my style !

  6. I purposely don't let my style be defined by any one adjective (e.g. "boho," "preppy"). I have read in magazines that you should try and create a signature style, but I think it is much more fun to mix it up. If I like a new trend, I'm never afraid to try it!

And I always liked Posh Spice the best....and actually, since she's married to David Beckham now, I think I would STILL trade places with her!

  10. That look is great! I think I'm a posh (I have her haircut). I tend to favor well-tailored clothes in classic shapes and I love mixing them up in unexpected colors...think Trina Turk + Club Monaco. However I also like to mix in a few punky pieces - like a purse or shoes with studs on it or a motorcycle jacket.

  12. Good point - I love mixing styles! Although I still tend to stick within the same few styles. I'll mix military and girlie a lot, but you still won't see much punk or sporty in there, even when I'm mixing. :-)

  17. Wow, love this olive color on you! My style has always been a bit classic/preppy with some edge/quirk. I just like to throw in a few pieces to mix things up. Which Spice Girl was I? Ginger Spice. Fun & flirty.

  18. Hi Jess! I came across your blog, and absolutely love what you're doing. I always feel like I can purchase pieces that look nice, but never really know what to do with them. I have a long way to go, but your blog is so helpful!

As someone who is at an "in-between" stage right now, it's sometimes difficult to know how to dress professionally with a polished look but still maintain my age. I'm only 23, but am finishing my Master's degree and working full time, so it's a delicate balance.

If you're ever coming to the Chicago area, I would LOVE to meet with you for any advice! :)

And thank you for all the work you put into your blog!

  19. I would say I'm boho-something. Maybe boho-chic. Can't relate to the spice girls. I certainly cling to something that works and do that over and over until I get tired of it or the rest of society gets tired of seeing me in that look.

  20. I always wanted to be Baby Spice though I don't quite remember why!

  21. I loved Baby Spice and Ginger Spice (Sexy Spice)...but I don't think I dress like either! Haha. I tend to lean towards classics so I'm probably preppy, girlie.

  25. I would def say that I am Girly, glamorous and classic sometimes I am afraid to step out of those boxes and try new things but but if I am going somewhere (eg. a concert) I can get creative and put a spin on my go to styles. It helps to see how you take the same peices and re-work them and make them look totally fresh just by pairing them differently. Also I would say I'm Ginger Spice because I to am a saucy red head :-)

  26. Do you remember what the name of the shoes are that you're wearing from Aldo? I've been trying to search for them but with no luck!

  27. When I bought them they were the last pair online and that was awhile ago but the name is Geringer I believe!

  28. I am a combination of girly and cool, trendy but not over the top, definitely classy and classic, elegant, polished, and sophisticated. I can be sporty but mostly I am not. I can also be very glamorous if the occasion calls for it. Staple pieces in my wardrobe are pencil skirts, trench coats, cardigans, ruffled tops, lots of dresses especially strapless styles, streamlined, boned bustiers, wide-legged dressy pants, skinny jeans, long tank tops for the summer, a variety of stylish scarves, A-line skirts and dresses, and dressy shorts. As far as shoes go I have a ton but mostly I own: peep-toe shoes, pumps, loafers, tall boots, ankle boots, gladiator sandals, balerina flats. My most favorite accessories are belts (esp skinny ones), necklaces (I prefer long ones), bracelets (esp bangles) and earrings. My favorite styles in handbags are slouchy leather ones, hobo bags, clutches (esp for a special occasion or night-time), satchels & cross-body little bags.
