Today's Everyday Fashion: The Mascot

I'm declaring this outfit the "mascot" for J's Everyday Fashion. Why? Because it's the same color blue and it's zebra print, just like I use in my blog header! <--- I'm probably a nerd for noticing this, but this is how my brain works. :-)

Styling tips: I love how the blue belt really makes this outfit. If you are already wearing belts, take it up a notch and try a colorful belt for fun! Bright colors look great with black and white neutrals like these.

  1. I definitely think this is one of my favorite outfits you've ever posted. The blue just pops, and I love how bold but ladylike the whole ensemble looks!

Do they still sell that dress? I love it, and would love to get it. What size did you order it in?

Love, love, love the outfit! I want everything that you have on today...sooo cute!!!

  6. Stephanie, the site works a bit like eBay and items are listed individually, so I'm not sure if there are others. If you don't see anything on there today, keep an eye on new arrivals - sometimes things come back a week or so later! I got a size XS.

    Thank you!

  13. Hi J, love this outfit! Question for you. I got a $100 giftcard to Nordstrom Rack for the bday. I'm torn on what to get. I have an event on Friday night and the local Volvo/ BMW store (Chicago), music, wine- that type of thing. I want to look "put together" but not to formal. What would you recommend I pick up at Nordstrom for the event? I have the $100 budget.

  14. Kim, it depends on what you find at that specific store, but you should be able to get a dress and shoes for $100 (I LOVE the shoes at Nordstrom Rack). I would try to find a dress that is a step up from a sundress, but a step down from a cocktail dress. Hope this helps - let me know what you find!

  16. J-- I love how you use photos as inspiration. Do you usually see an outfit that you like and then purchase the items you need to recreate it, or the other way around? I'd love to know a little more about your "method." Thanks!

  19. I'm almost 60, but you are an absolute inspiration to me, I found you on Refinery 29 and you are my favorite blogger. I check your cute clothes almost every day. I'm also curious about your process, do you find your inspiration first, then buy or the other way around? Your fashion is so doable and affordable. Thanks from an ex-Orlando-ite.

  20. Aw, thank you Kathy! I'm so glad you like the blog! My inspiration happens both ways - as I save photos I start to notice trends and items that I love, such as red pants. I then add red pants to my shopping list. I also choose inspiration photos though, that are based on what I already have.

  27. Love this look! I often feel like animal prints can be tricky but the way you combined this with a cardigan in a cool color looks great! And you are right, the colorful belt makes all the difference.

  28. Hi J!

I was super inspired by this outfit, specially due to that splash of color I get so afraid of. So, I went hunting out for a similar outfit and ended with an almost similar but zebra print dress and a royal blue cardigan (all the light blue ones I saw were too pale). I have an awards banquet Friday night and was wondering if these shoes (http://media.365project.org/1/1345503_dghiksux67_m.jpg ) would be fine? I'm a little scared of combining the flower design with the zebra print. Thank you!

  29. I think these shoes are perfect! I wouldn't do an all-over print, but just the one flower is cute and ties in the black/white in the dress.

  30. Perfect! Thanks so much! Great blog by the way, I love how you mix and match everything!

  31. Thank you for this outfit! Here's a picture of me at the banquet last night, everyone loved it! The only thing I didn't use was the belt because I thought I had one in my closet and I didn't. But here's the picture. Thanks much! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2018193537208&set=a.1626500825135.91012.1314986859&type=1&theater
