Today's Everyday Fashion: Earth Tones

It's Sunday so we are headed to church + a soccer game. I've got the usual problem of figuring out how to be appropriate at church, and how to stay cool at the soccer game. I decided to go for a breezy sundress for the game (right) and a leather jacket to cover up for church (left). I'm totally digging this outfit because I love earth tones (with olive being an all-time favorite of mine) and this outfit is full of 'em!

Occasion: Church, soccer game
Dress: c/o Varga Store, $44
Belt: came with the dress
Leather jacket: Banana Republic, $150
Shoes: Guess/DSW, $20 (recent)
Necklace: c/o Stella & Dot Stylist Lori McMinn

  1. Totally love the look. I'm thinking of getting the same dress. How do they fit (rather small, normal..?)

    Thanks !

  3. This particular dress is very true to size. I wear a 2 in dresses at Gap, etc. and the size small fit me perfect!

  4. Cute outfit! Just curious- do you think that style of sundress could be worn by someone who has a full chest (thinking about the ruffle)?

  7. I found your blog a few weeks ago and I am so inspired! I've started to re-work my wardrobe and clean out my closet. Plus I love that you're in Orlando. I lived in Winter Park for years and love to follow O-Town bloggers!

  11. Could you possibly add when you purchased your items (if possible) in your posts? Sometimes I really like an article of clothing from your outfit and if you bought it recently it would be great to know so I could try to find it!

    Thanks

  17. I go to a non-denominational church. It's Florida, so people are always extremely casual (borderline inappropriate even!).

  18. The two items that are available online (dress + necklace), I linked to where you can buy them (that's why they are highlighted in blue). The shoes are also recent, but not online, so I added that in parenthesis.

  19. Megan, I just bought these at DSW (probably my favorite store for shoes). You should still be able to find them there, and they had other cute ones to choose from too. For other shoe stores that I love check out my "Online Shopping Guide" which is the blue link in the very top right hand corner of the blog!

  20. Reba, I asked my full-chested friend yesterday and she said she would absolutely wear the dress! I think it depends on just how full-chested we are talking, and what size dress you order but there is plenty of room under that first ruffle that I actually think it might minimize the bust!

  25. Hey J, I'm a new follower and I have to say that I really love your site and your style! I've been living in Spain for the past 7 months, and the women here dress amazing, so I've become inspired to step up my fashion game, and I'm sure your blog will be a big help!

I loved this dress so much, so I ordered it online. I ended up getting the one in brown. I have a wedding to go to at the beginning of June back in the states, and I'm wondering if you think this dress would be wedding appropriate. If yes, what shoes, jewelry and covering would you recommend (its Portland, OR, so it's still chilly in June)? I have dark brown hair and olive toned skin, so with the brown dress and belt, I'm hoping to add some color with shoes and accessories. I'd love to hear your suggestions on colors/styles, etc.

    Thanks so much! Besitos

  26. Thanks Christine! So glad you like the blog! I think the dress could work, but what time of day is the wedding and what is the venue? If it's at night or black-tie, then it's probably not dressy enough but if it's during the day and/or a more casual venue I say go for it. I think turquoise would be a great pop of color, or even bright pink, in either a necklace or shoes?

  27. I love this look, sassy, girly, trendy. I love earth tones too, esp. olive so I dig this. I am not sure I would wear it to church (too casual and too trendy for church I think), but it's great for a sunday morning, afternoon or relaxed, sporty sunday evening.

  28. Thanks Ada! Every church and every region is different so plan accordingly. At my church, everyone is in flip-flops and shorts, so I tend to be WAY more dressed up than everyone else. It's a Florida thing though, and the fact that almost everyone at my church is still in college! :-) Never would have worn this to my church in Boston though.
