Today's Everyday Fashion: Celebrity vs. Real Life

Today's look is a bit of an experiment. Rhianna looks hot, but does her outfit work on an everyday girl? I used items from my closet to come up with a similar look but I'm not completely sold. What do you think - does Rhianna's look work in real life? What would you change about our outfits to make it work for you?

Blazer: Banana Republic, $75
Shirt: Forever 21, $16
Skirt: Urban Outfitters, $25
Shoes: c/o Chinese Laundry

I personally like the blazer and graphic tee portion of today's look, but I think I would be more comfortable in some skinny jeans and lace-up shoes like the look I created below!

Blazer: Victoria's Secret, c/o MJRSales, $35
Shirt: Forever 21, $16
Belt: Forever 21, $8
Jeans: Gap, $35
Shoes: Macy's/Mia, $28
Watch: Michael Kors
Bracelet: Forever 21, $10

  1. I have to agree the 2nd outfit is much better. There is something about the first one that isn't working for me.

  4. Great interpretation of a not so realistic everyday look. Super cute! I actually like the blazer, skirt, wedge combo better than the jeans. Love your blog J!!

  5. I really like them both too!

  6. LIke the jeans better, but the skirt gives the outfit a fun twist and makes it more girly!

  8. I love the outfit with the skirt, but then again I avoid pants at all costs. The only thing I find unrealistic about Rihanna's outfit are the socks with heels. The look is striking in editorial pictures but in real life, it just looks kind of silly. I love both of your looks!

  9. I really like the outfit with the skirt, but I would probably change the shoes. I think it would look super cute with some black pumps. The fringe with this outfit doesn't really mesh.. Love the shoes, just not with this outfit!

I prefer your version...and this is an excellent way to show ladies how to make it work and be wearable.

  12. I do love your look with skinny jeans, but I absolutely looooooooove it with the white skirt and wedges. This outfit is so LA to me, I feel like I see girls rocking this look around town all the time. I agree that Rhianna's look as shown is not wearable on most people. I know that long coat would have me looking boxy and the giant tulle skirt would just swallow me up. You took the theme and made it cute and flattering for our body type! :)

(BTW I've been reading for about a month now and you are awesome. Thanks!)

  13. I do like your second look better. I like Rhianna's look, but would do a white pencil skirt with a fitted grey blazer and lose the socks. Then you would have an work appropriate look with a twist.

  14. I like your interpretation of the look! I am a huge fan of the full skirt though, so I'd have to try to and recreate with a big ole skirt like Rhianna did. I know it's not as practical as the outfit you are pictured in, but that is what I would do! Great job!

  15. i think the look you recreated with jeans is really good and also i think instead of the graphic print, i nice black sequined top would look good too with the skirt and blazer for a everyday look..

  16. I love both - the skirt interpretation is adorable!

  18. All three are Awesome. Rihannas outfit and your skirt i think is practical depending on age. But your look with jeans is more practical for me (age appropriate lol) Love them all.

  20. Actually the skirt combo is one of my favorites I've seen you do. I really think it works better than the jeans. I'm not entirely sold on the white blazer, maybe. But the first one is so cute! It definitely works.

  21. I like the look of the skirt that you have its more real life and i think i would this to a pub to get a drink or like maybe a concert or thirfting and the skinny"s i could wear to the office, or shoots etc

  22. I like both of your versions over Rihanna's. And of the two of yours, I'm loving the skirt!

  24. Oh yes, you're take on this graphic tee and blazer look with the gray jeans is far more wearable and much more pleasing to the eye. Thumbs up J! Great job!

PS I so want a white blazer now! :)

  26. Too cute!! i like both the jeans and the skirt outfits!

  27. Actually your outfits are always better than your inspiration photos. I do like the jeans look best probably cuz I'm envious of your killer legs in the skirt, but I digress. I like Rhianna's pieces, the jacket, the skirt and shoes- just not together and I'm just not into the "sock" thing at all, hope that fad passes quickly.

  28. I love the graphic tee with blazer look, especially for Saturday brunch, errands, etc. but I think it's better with jeans, too. Check out this version of the look (http://ow.ly/4HSEN) from Orchids in Buttonholes - she makes it look refined! :)

  31. I like the skirt too! Someone pointed out on Facebook yesterday that the big skirt + graphic tee look was worn by Carrie in SATC2 when she bumps into Aiden in the market. Love that look!

  38. i would personally wear grey suede pumps/peeptoe with the skirt combo, and i like the grey skinnies but would do different shoes (then again that is not my preferred shoe style for myself but you wear it well)

  39. I love this website, I check it everyday. I love to shop and have so many items of clothing in my closet. I love the way I can just open the website and pull out items from my closet and put them all together.I love all of your looks, J but particularly I love the leopard prints. As an inspiration, today I wore a black shirt and black trousers with a leopard print scrf and shoes and bangles to top the look. Everyone commented and liked how it was put together, THANK YOU!!!! :))
