Today's Everyday Fashion: Spring has Sprung
Well, it happened. I wore my first summery white jeans outfit. It has been in the 80's for a couple weeks, I got a nice tan when I spent the day on South Beach last week and I just couldn't wait to bust them out (they are probably my most favorite clothing item ever). I used to wear my white jeans in the snow when I lived in Boston (with boots), but I know some people prefer to wait until after Memorial Day. What's your take - is it too soon to wear white jeans where you live?

I found your blog on Friday and I am in love with it. Your amazing J. So happy I found your blog since it will help me build the perfect wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's too soon in SF to wear the white pants, but I have been dying to incorporate springy colors into my days- even if I have to wear tights or a sweater over it!
ReplyDeleteI say wear white jeans whenever they look good on you. For some people that's ALWAYS, for others it's NEVER... but if it looks good, go for it. I certainly wouldn't let any fashion laws tell me I can't wear black in the summer, 75% of my wardrobe is black. hehe ;)
ReplyDeleteI heard on "What Not to Wear" that those fashion faux-pas like wearing white is just a myth... but it seems that the majority still follow that statement. I think that since we are in Florida we can get away with wearing white year round, lucky us, especially since white is one of my favorite colors to wear!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet, thank you Jessica! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think the white jeans are great and I can't wait for it to get a little warmer here in South Carolina so I can bust out a pair too! Reading this blog post, http://shoppingsavage.blogspot.com/2010/09/dear-shopping-savage_06.html I learned where the whole wearing white rule came from and decided I didn't need to wait any more! Thanks for all of your fashion inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI go by temperature and location. If you live in a tropical area (as you do), then I say go for it all year round! If you live in a cooler climate (like, say, the Pacific Northwest), then I wait for the temp to go above 60. I know that seems pretty low, but I'd kill for 60 right now (the weather is in the mid 40's and rainy ALL THE FREAKING TIME these days). You better believe the first sunny day above 60, the top is coming off the Jeep and the white jeans are going on!
ReplyDeleteMoms Have Style, Too!
I generally go by this rule- if the ground is white (aka snow) then I don't wear white pants. And unfortunately, there's still a lot of snow here in NY. I probably won't break out the white pants until April, or maybe even May. I've definitely been rocking my off-white blazer a lot though!! Seeing all your cute springy outfits makes me so green with envy!!!! Spring seems a long way off for me!!
ReplyDeleteSO gorgeous! you never disappoint ;)
ReplyDeleteI live in Georgia and prescribe to my mom's school of thought. If it's weather appropriate? Wear it. :) So shorts on Christmas day? Fine. And white and bright colors all year 'round!
ReplyDeleteI say wear them whenever you want! Hey they could even be wintery depending on how you style them! Love that shirt too!!

Fantastic! The blue necklace is perfect for this!
ReplyDeleteCan you post the style number of the coral top? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMaria, it's not online anymore, I checked a couple days ago. :-(
ReplyDeleteI like your mom's school of thought!! :-)
ReplyDeleteInteresting article, thanks for posting! It seems so old-fashioned and out of date where this rule comes from, and yet the author concludes she is still going to follow it? Very cool history lesson nonetheless. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm from Michigan so wearing white seems a little different than wearing them in Florida. If I lived somewhere warm, I'd probably wear them all year long, but in Michigan I don't bring them out till later spring. :( I love the outfit though!!
ReplyDeleteBut as a side question, I'm going to be coming to Orlando in a May.. any suggestions from a local as to where we should eat, what we should do or see?? I'd love to know your opinion and go to the best spots while I'm there!! If you want to e-mail me you can at scbolt24@comcast.net
Thanks- Sarah
J, how could you ask such a question? You have taught your followers that anything goes in fashion. Based on your teaching, I have learned that white pants are worn whenever I feel like wearing them, especially when they are styled with such a cute shirt. I love the tan and pink with that pop of turquoise. Too cute. I just have to say that you are so AWESOME. Where did you get such an amazing sense of style?
ReplyDeleteAnother question I have, in your outfit section on your page although you are wearing these particular shoes in several pictures, I was wondering if you still have the shoes worn in pictures 10, 16, and 17. I absolutely love them.
That's my opinion on white jeans but was curious to see what everyone else thought! :-) As for my sense of style, it was completely self-taught. Not a single person in my family who is interested in fashion!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure which shoes you are referring to, but the easiest way to view my outfits and details is in my Facebook photo albums. There are two called "J's Everyday Outfits." If you find a pair and want details, send me the link and I'm happy to help!
Sarah, are you looking to shop, go to amusement parks, or something else? The only must-see in my opinion is Park Avenue, which is a street full of boutiques, restaurants and bars in Winter Park, FL. It's not touristy at all, and I love taking my friends there to visit when they are in town.
ReplyDeleteoooh, LOVE that necklace with this outfit.
ReplyDeleteperfect!
The style number should be on the shirt (not on the collar, but on one of the side seams of the shirt). If you can give me that, I'll find it - thanks, J!
ReplyDeleteJ-if I lived somewhere where it was in the 80's, you can bet I would be busting out the white jeans too! It's not really warm enough to wear them yet in Illinois but once it gets a bit warmer (and I find some adorable white jeans like those!) I'll wear them. Great outfit as always. One question/suggestion: could you show some different ways to wear a military style jacket? I bought a cute army green one that's actually more of a true military style as far as cut and details/buttons. I wore it out last night w/dark skinny jeans, bright yellow tiered top and a scarf that kind of tied it all together but I would like some more suggestions on how to wear it (if you don't mind). I was thinking of maybe pairing it with a floral dress and dressy sandals too. Thx for all the great posts. I've always loved fashion but struggled w/thinking outside the box. You've helped me to look at things differently & not just wear things b/c they "match" but to put things together b/c they "go".
ReplyDeleteI asked jokingly because you are soooo amazing, and if you create the look, I will wear it no matter what season. ;-))))) It's baffles me how I hang on to your every word, and my day is not complete unless I visit this site.
ReplyDeleteAs for the pics, under your Q&A with J link, there's a link Outfits. In pic 10, you are wearing a cute polka dot shirt (forever 21) with black shorts. In pic 16, you have on this adorable shirt with ruffles running from the shoulders to the waist and black shorts. In pic 17, you have on black blazer, white tee, and blue jeans shorts. In pic 17, you have 3 inspiration photos attached.
BTW THANKS for taking the time to answer our questions. I do appreciate ALL the time that you devote to your sites to assist us.
Hopefully I'm looking at the right photos:
ReplyDelete10 - shirt is from H&M, shoes are the Carlos Santana Petaldo
16 - shoes are the Steve Madden PBIBBIE (I'm selling these in a few weeks, they are size 9)
17 - shoes are Michael Antonio, I got them at TJ Maxx for $15 years ago. I sold them a few months ago.
No thank you. After buying an outfit at Loft for like $ 50 I happened to find your blog on Google. I'm so excited to incorporate all our fashion tips to my weekly shopping trips.
ReplyDeletei love this top! the color is great on you, and the necklace is the perfect touch!
ReplyDeleteWhite jeans aren't for me (I'm curvy, and feel self-conscious in them.) It was 34 degrees and snowing here today, so I don't think a lot of people around here will be wearing them anytime soon... but I say if someone wants to wear them, wear them whenever you'd like!
ReplyDeleteI love the top, the combo of the top with the turquoise necklace, and the outfit overall! Also, I'm completely jealous of your gorgeous tan! I'm feeling like Casper the ghost here in upstate NY!
All of the above-HA! We plan to go to some of the amusement parts and maybe the outlet mall, but food is a big thing! Hate to go to a bad restaurant while we're there. Winter Park sounds fun and not too far from Orlando! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of white jeans but I'm a little scared to wear them myself. Do you have any tips to finding a good pair of white jeans?
ReplyDeleteSarah, I think the same rules apply as when you are finding blue jeans. Look for a pair that are not too baggy or too tight, and that you feel comfy in. Any style works, I love skinny jeans but white bootcuts work too. I personally love the Gap for jeans, but I have also heard a lot of fans rave about Express jeans!
ReplyDeleteYou look great and I love your little blouse. Pink with Camel/Beige looks great together. As far as white pants, I think fashion rules are meant to be broken and I think the "After the Labor Day" rule is stupid, anyway. I say go for White Jeans during colder months as long as winterize them a little bit, such as tuck them inside beige, cognac or brown boots (black boots would be too severe with white jeans.) As far as white pants or slacks (for the work environment or work pants) for winter months I say instead of going for crisp white pants, go for winter white, milky or ivory ones, instead.
