Today's Everyday Fashion: Day to Date
What I love most about today's look is that's transitional. Just remove the jacket and go from day to date! The first outfit with the suit jacket is perfect for work, and the bit of lace peeking out is super-stylish but still professional. The second outfit without the jacket works for a date or a night out with the girls. You could also throw on skinny jeans instead of the skirt for a totally different look! How do you transition your clothes from work to a night out?

I totally thought that was a dress!! I love white--so springy :)
ReplyDeleteHi J, I love this idea. I keep reading in magazines that we should avoid white lace as it's too bridal.. what's your thought on that ?
ReplyDeleteI gotta say, I love your blog. Your combinations are great and I pull up your blog when I can't think of anything to where. Love today's outfit!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! It looks great with the blazer. I never would have thought to pair it with one! I saw you in the latest In Style this weekend. So cool! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you provide inspiration photos. Such fun. Do you find these photos and say to yourself, "I have that outfit!" or do you find a photo you love and try to shop accordingly? Probably a little of both :) Anyway, love it!
ReplyDeleteI hate Olivia Palermo, but darn it, she always looks good!
ReplyDeleteLove this look. Please provide more day to night looks!

Haha, I was thinking the same thing about Olivia Palermo. I actually know absolutely nothing about her, but I love her style! :-)
ReplyDeleteYep, a little of both! I save all pictures I love, regardless of whether i have the pieces to make the outfit, and usually it all comes together at some point.
ReplyDeleteCath, who in the world said that?!! Lace has been such a huge trend for the past year, I can't imagine a magazine saying that? I think if you were wearing a cocktail dress that was all lace, that might be little harder to pull off, but lace shirts or a lace skirt are awesome right now!
ReplyDeleteI love both versions of the outfit. I have transitioned from work to night usually I wear a fitted long sleeve v neck with a tshirt type of vest over it in a creme or neutral color to contrast and add some gold hoop earrings and my high heels. Oh btw I was so excite I saw you on InStyle Magazine Im like I know her! Felt like a dork but congrats on being featured!
ReplyDeleteI love your shirt but I can't find it on CR.com anywhere! I hope I'm not just missing out. Lace is one of my fav trends! I always end up buying the shirts that have lace sleeves, or lace on the back. Its just such a fun detail!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I bought the shirt more than 6 months ago! :-(
ReplyDeleteps. But everyone is selling lace right now, so you should be able to find something similar in no time!
ReplyDeleteHi J, well if I remember well it was a Tim Gunn advice in this month Marie Claire... I go throught so many magazines I may be wrong, but I for sure read it... Anyway, I see that your look doesn't look bridal at all. I love it and will definitely consider buying a white lace top !
ReplyDeleteps. The inspiration photos are not just for show. I actually need them to brainstorm and come up with new outfits! That's the premise of my blog - I'm really not that creative, so if I can do this stuff, you guys can too! :-)
ReplyDeleteTHIS might be my fave look yet! i am a huge fan of all white outfits and this has just the perfect pop of color! i have shoe envy =)
ReplyDeleteI just bought a white one that looks similar at forever 21 and also saw some at Target! Both for under $20 (Mind you the Target one was a tank top, I believe). Happy hunting! White lace is too cute for spring!
ReplyDeleteJ-I've started saving pics from magazines as inspiration as well. I have a ton of clothes but I'm not very good at mixing and matching so magazines and your blog are helping quite a bit!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if ppl just dislike Olivia Palermo based on her "character" and the scene editing from the City or if she's really like that in real life b/c it seems as though she is very well-liked in NYC and consider a muse for a lot of designers.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, she has amazing fashion and I love it when you recreate one of her outfits.
I so regret not finding this white lace top @ CR when they had it. very popular amongst the fashion bloggers.
so so so so gorgeous!!! aren't you glad you kept those shoes? ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat transitional look really like it, for me i do my transition thru a cardigan and switching my tote for a cluch and i'm ready to partyyy!!!

I love your shoes. the are awesome.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great outfit! I'm going to raid my closet and try something like this later this week!
ReplyDeleteLike the dress. But the belt doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a dress - it's a lace top and a pencil skirt. This shirt is humongous on me though - without it, I look like a box, so I had to improvise and make it work! :-)
ReplyDeleteI seen this lace shirt at Charlotte Russe the other day and I pasted on it because I didn't think it would work for me being seeing you in it makes me rethink it!
