Flashback Friday: The Navy Blazer

[Click the photo to view it larger.] Today's Flashback Friday features one of my favorite pieces of all time, the navy blazer, worn 14 different ways. This blazer taught me a valuable lesson that I will never forget. I spent $70 for it at the Gap three years ago because I loved the one I saw at J.Crew for $300. At the time, I had never spent more than $30 on a clothing item and the $70 price seemed outrageous. I'm still not sure what made me "splurge", but I quickly learned the value of spending a little more on something that you will love and wear over and over again. A closet full of $5-10 items will never feel quite right without a few high-quality staples such as a blazer like this to pull them together!

Styling tips: What I love about these outfits is that I'm wearing a different bottom in almost every photo. I also love the variation of shoes (only a couple repeats). I'm thinking a navy blazer might be one of the most versatile items out there - what do you guys think? Do you have a navy blazer? What do you wear it with?

Hi! I love this flashback...I have a black blazer that I am slightly obsessed with. I wear it with dresses, crops, jeans, skirts, shorts. I just love blazers. I think it puts that finishing touch on things.

  4. I have two navy blazers and one navy casual jacket. One blazer is also more casual and the dressier one has two sets of subtle pinstripes - white and light blue. I have worn them with a lot of different things. One of my favorite combos is navy blazer, white or grey shirt underneath, purple scarf, jeans, and grey shoes. I also love it with a green scarf instead. One of my favorite color combos is purple and navy blue!

I've been searching for the perfect navy blazer. I bought a boyfriend style one, but I want something a little more tailored and in a crisp cotton. Yours is awesome!

    My faves are 1, 6, 7 & 11 :)

  8. That's a great blazer!!! So versatile! Yeah...sometimes it's worth spending a bit more on an item that will stand the test of time. :0)

I just bought a black boyfriend blazer ("dry clean only") and am almost at the point where I need to have it cleaned somehow. Would you be able to comment on what you do with dry clean only items? I only have a few but don't want to spend the $$ on getting them drycleaned if possible. I've been eyeing those "dryclean at home in your dryer kits" but haven't used one yet.

Take care and have a great weekend!

  9. A navy blazer is at the top of my list for spring must-haves. They have one at the GAP this year, but it fits oddly on me. If you see any good deals (ie $60 or under) let me know!

  10. just beautiful! and you're so right about splurging on certain items! I found a gorgeous navy Ralph Lauren blazer at Marshalls, but I didn't end up getting it because it was $100. Now I'm thinking I should've just splurged a little because it is a classic piece and will last for years :)

ps. you are just so gorgeous, you look amazing in literally anything you wear. your husband is a lucky guy! ;)

  15. Thank you! I am a big believer in Dryel. I never want to spend the money for dry cleaning, so I use Dryel often, and then only take something to the cleaners if it is soiled or got really sweaty.

  16. Thanks for the tip and response! I'll be getting one of those Dryel kits!

  17. I have the same one you have from the Loft, with the mesh(?) border on the bottom? I'm still working it into my wardrobe...I anticipate wearing it a lot with jeans/cords. So far I've worn it to a dinner party last month with a cute strapless tweed dress with a sweetheart neckline :)

  21. I love the navy blazer flashback, I just recently bought a black blazer from White House Black Market and after alterations to shorten the sleeves it cost around $80... I was honestly feeling a little buyer's remorse since my clothing budget is pretty tight, but now after seeing your flashback and excited to experiment different looks with my blazer.

  22. Alright, I know this isn't on the topic of the navy blazer, but I've noticed that you make wearing high heels look so easy and classy! When I wear heals with shorts, I just end up looking like a tramp. haha! Actually, whenever I wear heels anywhere I feel like I'm wayyy too dressed up. The thing is, I LOVE heels! Can you do a post on how to wear heels and look classy and feel comfortable? You have obviously mastered that art and I need some serious instruction!
Love the blog! As always, thanks for your fashionista advice!

  27. This navy blazer is very versatile. I prefer it better with skinny pants, capris & shorts. With that said I prefer better looks 2,3, 5, 6, 7, 9 & 14.
