Today's Everyday Fashion: Should I Keep this Blazer?

After several attempts to style this pink blazer, I think the writing is on the wall: it's just not that flattering on me (H&M, $35). I love the color, but I think the shape adds unnecessary bulk to my frame. What do you guys think though - should I return this blazer to H&M?

  1. I like it on the left, but on the right think it does look kind of bulky. If you feel "off" in it, don't keep it!

I love the blazer itself and I think the outfit on the left is a cute use of it...but if you don't feel confident in it, don't wear it! I'm just a sucker for all things pink. And blazers.

  3. I agree with you, think it's unflattering.

  4. I like the combination on the left, but i think in both looks the blazer looks a little too boxy... your waist gets lost in it. If it was a little bit shorter and more fitted, with a single button it would have been a definite keeper.

  5. Too boxy on you, and I'm not too crazy about the color either.. but I love how you styled it:-)

  7. I like the outfit on the left.

  8. Keep it and get it tailored! I think this would look awesome with your tan banana republic skirt:)

  9. You are so tiny, you should not be worried about bulk to your frame! I like it! Loose is flattering on you as well, not everything needs to be skin tights!

  10. Honestly - I'm not a fan of the colour. It makes me think of the dusty rose carpet my parents had in the 80s. I would give it to Goodwill and rejoice in the little bit of extra closet space!

  11. I actually think I like it. I like it more on the right, with the more casual look. The more "formal," professional look on the left looks forced, but on the right it adds some texture. And I think it complements the green shirt.

That said, my new favorite thing to do, partly inspired by this blog, on a day when I've worn an outfit that didn't feel amazing or didn't make me feel confident, is to walk in my front door and immediately put it in my Goodwill pile. Don't pass Go, don't collect unwanted, unflattering clothes. :)

  12. Yes! Don't keep unwanted/unflattering clothes around. Luckily I can still return this one to the store for a full refund! ;-)

  13. Haha, it is VERY 80's!

  14. Mary, I totally agree! If you notice, I hardly ever wear anything skin tight, that's not really my style. I love my black blazer that has this same shape, I just think it's a combo of the color and size that makes me look like I'm wearing a barn!

  15. Hmm. I think it looks great! I honestly don't think it looks boxy or that it adds bulk. I think you def can rock this look. :)

  16. I like the color of the blazer - it suits you very well. However, when it comes to its shape and style I don't think it flatters you. An alternative could be to return in to the store and look for another blazer/jacket in the same color???

  17. I pretty much love everything you wear, but here's my take on it: I love to use your blog for inspiration. This blazer doesn't inspire me to search one out for myself. How's that for an answer?

  18. I'm obsessing about the soft pink color for Spring. I want to pair it with black and pearls to give it a "Chanel" look........

    ReplyDelete
  19. I actually like it better in the outfit on the left. While it does add some bulk, you are quite tiny and can afford to do this. With that being said, if you don't love it and don't feel great in it, return it. Use the money for something you feel fabulous in. You have so many great pieces in your wardrobe; why settle for something mediocre?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I meant to say the outfit on the right-whoops!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Have you tried paring the blazer with a dark brown (like rally dark!) pant? I think the dusty pink goes well with dark brown.

I have been following your blog for a last month or so and I absolutely love it. I must say you have great style :-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'd return it. Not a fan. You have a lot of other blazers/jackets that are much cuter.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I like the blazer. You're right about the color. It is great. I like it styled with the the white best. What if you belted it? Would that make it have a better shape?

  24. I think it looks great in the pic on the left, maybe due to the contrast with the top? You are probably right about it adding bulk....I usually pay little attention or have a bad eye for things like that....hence why I check your blog for tips! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's cute, but I don't think it is making you look your best. If you love it, keep it. If you don't love it, return it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Its looks great with the white top! I say keep it. It doesnt make you look boxy and its a great spring color!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love it and think you should keep it! I like the styling much better on the left than on the right.

  28. I just saw a nice blush colored blazer at Kohls in Lauren Conrad's Spring collection that was a bit more fitted. It was a tad short on me because I'm chesty so I ordered one that was longer from Forever 21. Perhaps you should keep looking because there are a lot of blazers available in this lovely color and you could find something less blocky. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Amanda, I bought that Kohls blazer too! It was also too short on me, but I loved it otherwise. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  30. If you're not sure, then donate it to the Goodwill. You should feel great in what you wear and if it leaves you feeling blah or boxy, you won't turn to it in the closet. You could wear a potato sack and look cute, it's just how YOU feel in it!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks Mary, I totally agree! I just bought it though, so I can just return it to the store for a refund! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ok, the truth is that it's the length of the blazer that's unflattering. It hits at the widest part of the hip. If it wasn't for that, it would be beautiful. Just return it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think you could get something much cuter. Not digging the cut or color. Definitely a take back. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Honestly, I think it washes you out and is just kinda bleh for your usual punchy, gumdrop color wheel.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe try it with white or cream color skinnies and neutral flats or neutral heels.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Have it tailored to come in at the waist, or send it to me, I will wear it :-) It's a great color!

    ReplyDelete
  37. nah, take it back. I don't think there is anything special about it. The color doesn't do much for you and I'm not in love with the shape. If you wouldn't look forward to wearing it, then you probably won't wear it often!

    ReplyDelete
  38. My rule when shopping is "If I don't love it, I won't buy it"(unless its 70% off or more.lol), otherwise I will hesitate to wear it. I would take it back..there is nothing special about it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have the same issue with a pinkish blazer I bought at Forever21 and I never wear it. It doesnt really do much its a little Blahh looking. I would return it, if I could return mine I would love everything else you have on super CUTE :o)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I totally disagree,I think it's amazing. An oversized blazer with fitted jeans is perfect-- one of my go-tos!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Since your not happy with it, and have tried to style it with no avai, def return it and get something you absolutely love.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think it is the color and the material that you aren't really crazy about... I would return it... The pink satin on the sleevs make it look kind of cheap...

    ReplyDelete
  43. I immediatly thought it looks bulky & a tad dated before even reading! I have the same build as you & have a blazer that just is not flattering! In the donation pile as I write!

    ReplyDelete
  44. i think you should return it! i think it's more of the color that isn't flattering than the shape. i think it would've looked better if it wasn't so pastel :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. yes! I definitely think you should keep this blazer!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't think the cut is right for you at all. It cuts you off at an odd spot and I find the colour a little blah.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think that it looks good - I actually like that it is a little longer than the blazers you normally wear - but like you said, you aren't 100% about it and you can get a full refund. Go get something that will fill a gap in your closet instead of something that you won't wear regularly

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'd take it back. It's a bit 80's style, and I think you'd look much nicer in a different color/cut blazer.

    ReplyDelete
  49. i like the color but it does seem to be a bit large at the sides. you kind of get lost in it...

    ReplyDelete
  50. I like the blazer and the color but I don't think it's the right cut for you. It looks a little boxy and doesn't flatter your shape as well as it should.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Honestly? I don't love it! But take that with a grain of salt...no one ever asks me for fashion advice. Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think it's cute . . . just wondering how the one from Kohls ended up? Wasn't that one pink, too? I think it looked a little more fitted on their site.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey there, I'm new to the site and I LOVE LOVE LOVE your clothes. I will say though the blazer would be nicer on you if it had more of a waist. You have a great shape and this just sort of hides it.
I spent the weekend browsing your site and your closet.... I NEED to have your closet lol.

Looking forward to your future posts!

    Cassondra

  54. No. I don't think it flatters you the way it should.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Melissa, I wanted to mention that blazer but they don't have it anymore so I didn't have a picture. I like the Kohl's one okay - it was actually a bit too short though and the size I ordered was too big. A fail for both, but I'll keep looking! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Haha Stephanie, I love it! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thank you Cassondra! Welcome to the blog! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  58. No girl! It's not your color.. does nothing for you.. the fact that you even had to ask, shows that you kind of knew it when u bought it. return it.. you can find something cuter with the money.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Return it. I don't think there's a heck of a lot wrong with the shape, I just don't like the silk cuffs and the colour isn't matching well. It's very... "Grandma's jacket she wore to a wedding 50 years ago with a matching dress"-ish. It just doesn't look right.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well First of all I am a frequent visitor of you blog...and I should say I love your sense of fashion...You have the same taste as mine, but in a more organized way ;)
I think you have much better blazers that fit you very nicely...This one just thoesn't work like the others...Although I like the outfit on left...I may recreate it ;D

    ReplyDelete
  61. I do not think that this looks like you it is too square and the color is not you. What do you think about H & M I think it is more expensive this year and the fashion is not as good as last year. Return the blazer and get one of the cute trench coats that is 50% off and rock that look in the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  62. If it was a different color and a little shorter I think it would suit you better. It's not too boxy, I think the length makes it boxy....

    ReplyDelete
  63. Keep it! Try it with a brown belt too, but I love this on you. The color is something you can wear year round too so it'll be very versatile. :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Take it to a tailor and have them either just take the waist in or transform it into a "new" pink blazer. I'm thinking a tucked in waist with some sort of a ruffled, curved hem bottom to it. Belt loops added in the remaining fabric would allow you to belt it as well. Give it a shot, what have you got to lose?

Esh....I think you may be right. There's something "off" about it, and I don't think I can get on board with it. I think its a bit of the cut, and a bit of the color. I wish the pink was more...blushy maybe. I wish the color had more life, it looks dead, at least in these photos. Also the cut is somewhere between a boyfriend blazer and a normal blazer, and I want it to be one or the other!

In my opinion, send it back and save your money for something that screams "fantastic!" This one is just "OK."

  66. I've been trying to watch your comments when you post these pants, but I never see exactly what pants those are. Are they these? http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?catId=cat90120&productId=0432_7994

I just love the jeans on you and hope they'd look half as good on me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yep, that's them! my favorite part about the jeans is that the holes are "fake" (they have patches) so no leg shows through.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Bummer! Someone left a comment on my blog that they found a cute pink blazer at H & M--worth looking into!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I love it! You look great! Definitely keep it - spring and summer are just around the corner and it will look great with white, beige, and light gray pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  70. A little tailoring and some quick changing of the buttons (gold or darker pink bling) and it would really rock! The color is gorgeous and a good tailor could make it more fitted in a flash! Something to think about. Love this blog!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think the blazer.. I just don't think I like it with those outfits. :)

  72. you just arent wearing it right! its an adorable blazer and theres nothing wrong with your frame, try pairing it something more fitting than a loose top and jeans like maybe a off-white lace dress thats form fitting!
