Today's Everyday Fashion: It's in the Mag

Do you ever look at a picture in a magazine and say to yourself "I could never look like that"? Well stop that right now! Some outfits might be unobtainable, and some of them no one should be wearing, but some are just what you need for a fresh take on your closet.  Take today's inspiration from Lucky magazine (left). I had all the pieces I needed, this picture just gave me a little boost to make it happen. Anyone can do it - now get to collecting those magazine photos! :-)

  1. Thanks for giving me another way to look at my black skinny jeans. Never thought of pairing them with a brown. Love that I'm not the only one who collects the magazine photos. My husband thinks I'm nuts because I have a binder full of them. I told him it's better than stacks of magazines cluttering up the house!

And, again... thank you for getting me to look at my closet from a different perspective!!

  8. I need help!! I'm ditching my entire wardrobe and starting over. Well, not the entire thing, I might be able to work with some of it. What are some staple pieces that can be used to build a wardrobe around??

  9. How do you get your white shirt to layer so nicely? It must be made of a thinner material than most of my dress shirts.

  10. Kat, don't ditch your whole wardrobe! I'm a big fan of holding onto unique pieces for when they come back in style. (I'm going to do a post on this over the weekend if you want to check it out!) Another resource that might help: I have more than 300 outfits posted so far, you can see all of them easily on Facebook. I always find that looking at inspiration photos (from blogs, websites, magazines) helps me get ideas! ;-)

  11. Before I found your blog I would browse through magazines look at the pics and think 'I could never put together an outfit like that!'.. your blog really opened my eyes though, it's not about having the exact same pieces, it is about imagination and creativity! You teach us how to RE-CREATE the outfit and you are doing an awesome job J, thanks!!!

  14. Erin, this particular shirt is from H&M and it's extremely sheer. It's just about as lightweight as a white collared shirt can get. :-) You might be able to achieve this look with a thicker white shirt, but I think the biggest difference would be comfort. I tend to feel restricted in a lot of heavy layers, but with a shirt light you almost can't feel it!
