Today's Everyday Fashion: Runway to Reality

Runway looks can be tough to re-create - they are, after all, the highest form of fashion fantasy. But this look from Tibi was just what I needed to pull this plaid blazer out of the back of my closet! It may be more than 5 years old, but now I'm loving it paired with wool pants and a ruffled blouse for work.

Styling tip: Most experts will tell you to get rid of a piece of clothing if you haven't worn it in 6 months to a year. But I recommend being a bit more of a pat-rack. My advice is to get rid of anything that doesn't fit or is worn out, bottoms that are out of style and anything that feels too young to you (we all outgrow our style eventually). Things to keep are blazers, items with intricate beading or sequins, and anything that you still love. You might just be tired of an item or need to wait until it comes back into style. I have been so thankful on many occasions for the pieces I held onto and this blazer is a great example!

  3. This outfit looks great! I am SUCH a clothes packrat. I agree, keep as much as you can. Especially different colored tops that may match future jackets, cardigans, skirts, etc. I'd even say keep things that might not fit, but are close to your size. I got rid of a ton of clothes in fall 2010, because I had gained 15 pounds. Well, I overestimated the time it would take to get my figure back. Here I am, several months later, having lost all the weight, and wishing I hadn't gotten rid of the clothes! :(

  4. Good point about the clothes that don't fit - I actually have a stash of clothes specifically for the day when I am pregnant!! :-) If there is any chance that your weight will fluctuate, it could be a good idea to hold onto something. But if something just fits poorly in general, I say toss it!

  6. I love it when you recreate looks, you do such a great job of making the look wearable for the everyday girl. :) I really love the top half of this look but the pants have me wondering about the fit. Are they supposed to be a looser fit? The crotch seems really low.

  7. Thank you! Great question about the pants - they are a "slouchy" fit with a dropped crotch and pleats. As I told someone on Facebook today, this is not exactly a sexy look or a good way to get a man (ha!). But I get seriously bored with work pants so I think these are a fun way to switch it up. Sometimes I care less about flattering my figure than just having fun with fashion! :-)

  8. You are so cute! I just found your blog through Tina's (Faith Fitness & Fun) and am so glad I clicked over. I love fashion but need help putting things together. I totally agree about keeping things. So many things that I hadn't worn in a few years have come back into style. You never know.

  13. Lauren, they have them at Sears right now, but I must warn you that they are really uncomfortable. I still wear them because I love how they look, but it's something about the height of the heel/angle of the shoe that gets me. Here is the link!
