Today's Everyday Fashion: The Color Red

Apparently I made some sort of truce with the color red. I used to hate it, but lately I'm really, really diggin' it. I had these pants on my wish list for the past couple months and was finally able to score them for $17 in the day-after-Christmas sale. I have lots of outfit ideas for them and here's the first! I know they are tad flashy so I'm curious to see - what's your take, would you wear red pants?

Pants: Gap, $17
Jacket: Gap, $25
Shirt: Abercrombie, $20
Faux fur collar: H&M, $15
Belt: Limited, $15
Boots: Aldo, $75

  1. LOVE THEM! I own a pair of bright red cords - straight leg from J crew...love them with a pink shirt, black top, white and do love the blue you paired it with!

  4. Melissa, pink is one of my ideas for these pants, I love pink and red together!

Anonymous, I got the jacket a few months ago. It's no longer online, but they may have one in the store!

  5. Wow those pants look VERY red! Quite flashy!
I love red pants tho! I have a pair too and I am still trying to find a nice pair of ruby colored leather pants.
However I don't think I like the combination with the green jacket and blue shirt.

  7. Red pants remind me too much of this girl I went to high school with who wore the same pair of red shorts literally every day it was warm enough to wear shorts.

That being said, I have owned garnet colored pants and pink pants so I'm not totally against the idea.

  10. Great look!! I love my Red pants that I did a post on a few days ago. I'm excited to play around and see what different things I come up with. Hey, I may try your look! :)

  11. Yikes. Not my style, but good for you to be daring enough to wear it. I think it takes confidence to pull something like that off.

  12. gorgeous! i would definitely wear red pants if I could pull them off like you ;)

  13. I love the red, but maybe if you're worried about the flashiness you could tone down the rest of the outfit. Maybe lose the fur and boots? I always hate mixing too many trendy pieces.

  14. Thanks everyone! We have quite the red pants debate going on on Facebook and I also wanted to share my response here! :-)

I have loved reading all your comments today! You guys really have the wheels in my head turning. Couple thoughts: 1. I really, really appreciate it when you comment and give thumbs up on photos. It may seem redundant when 30 other people have already told me they like my outfit, but it's really important for me to see what outfits float your boat and what outfits you don't care for. The more positive comments and "likes" on something, the more I know to keep going that direction. 2. Sometimes I feel really pulled between what you guys want, which I think is obtainable fashion that you yourself would wear, and what the fashion community expects from bloggers, which are outlandish "costumes." I'm sure I will continue to post some crazy outfits from time to time, but I also want you guys to know that I will always put you first. The fashion community can kiss my red-pants butt. :-)

  15. Ha! I work for Gap, and have been eying them since they came in last August. I also scored them on the day after Christmas for the same price! I loooove them. Last year I bought the chartreuse ones, and still regret not buying the hot pink ones. Cords are the only things I dare wear in odd colors for some reason. :)

  16. I have been into red lately and never thought I would try red pants... I have a Gap shirt with the same shade of red stripes... but I think they look great!!! Maybe I will venture out of my comfort zone. :)

  17. I wanted those pants so bad, and then they ran out of my size when they went on sale!!

  18. I like to mix red and leopard print together. Sexy without being over the top.

    Love your interpretation!

  19. So cute. Do you find that the summery weather in Florida limits your outfits? When I lived in LA I was always jealous of Fall-time weather as it's my favorite clothing season. Now that I'm in Boston, I have PLENTY of cold days to dress for!

  20. I have a red skirt that I wrestle with, too... I tend to play down my other pieces when I wear it, but I definitely love the concept of red on the bottom. I'd love to see a post on the range of looks you can achieve from a daring garment (i.e., red pants)-- from 'costumey' to tame. That would be a cool read. Regardless, you look great, and you wear all your looks with confidence. Go, girl!

  22. I absolutely love your blog and hope it never changes! There are 100s of fashion blogs out there and yours is the only one I turn to because you really portray the message of functional and beautiful fashion. You have impeccable taste and I love your sense of style. Even if there's an outfit I wouldn't wear myself (which has yet to happen), I still respect your decisions and hope you never change your looks and ideas because of what others say :)

  25. i love the blue + bright red. I can't wait to see your other combinations!! I think cords are the one style of pants that can be worn in such daring colours, I don't know, just something about them!

  28. Thanks everyone!

Briana, I just moved to FL from Boston a year ago! I hated the cold and pretty much gave up on looking cute 6 months out of the year. :-( Living in FL has definitely sparked my creativity again. I prefer summer clothes, and it still gets chilly enough during the winter to rock boots!

Sarra, you made my day yesterday with your comment. I really appreciate your support chica!! Thank you!

Mary, definitely not real fur. I doubt you could ever find a collar like that for $15. (!!)
