Today's Everyday Fashion: Mixing Prints
This look is a bit of an experiment for me. I've been seeing "how to mix prints" features in lots of magazines and decided to give it a try. On the left I paired a printed skirt with a larger printed sweater in similar colors. On the right - I show you what it looks like if you remove the sweater.
So, what do you think - do you like mixing prints? Is this look a miss or a hit?
Sweater: Alice Temperley for Target
Shirt: Forever 21, $22
Belt: Express
Skirt: Limited, $35

woah the one on the left is a little busy for me...but I wouldn't really consider myself an adventurous dresser. Love the one on the right. I loooove ruffles.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of mixing prints but I think it is a tricky task. Hence, why I rarely do it.
ReplyDeleteI applaud your experiment!
I prefer the one on the right without the sweater. While mixing prints can work and be fun, I think in this specific case it's a little too art deco for my taste.

The one on left is busy for me. I won't have a lot of courage to put on something like that. But you can J, you are looking fab in both :)
ReplyDeleteNo I don't see myself mixing Prints anytime soon.

I like the idea of mixing prints, but I'm not so sure about this instance. I do love the outfit on the right, though.
ReplyDeleteI actually like the one on the left but I would probably rock the one on the right-- just because. Mondo from Proj. Runway is a beast of mixing prints-- did you check him out?

No way to the outfit on the left, but the one on the right is much less busy and the top is SUPER cute!
ReplyDeleteI love mixing prints! I think it actually makes your look more thought out. I'm loving that sweater!!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of mixing prints, but I think that the one on the left would be a little busy for a work day. The outfit on the right with a contrasting color sweater would be awesome too :-). You look fab as usual though!
ReplyDeleteI'm all about the mixing of the prints.......I have that sweater and I'm going to use your outfit as inspiration! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteHow recently did you get that sweater, I love it
ReplyDeleteNot a huge fan of mixing prints. It reminds me of people I used to see in graduate school who looked like they got dressed in the dark and just pulled two random things out of the closet. All the pieces separately, though, are cute!
ReplyDeletei like the white one best
ReplyDeleteI think in this case maybe a color printed top would've lookd better. there's just so much going on color might break it up a bit. Or maybe it is also the fact that the sleeves are a diff print from the sweater and altogether looks overwhelming. right outfit is way cute.
ReplyDeleteLooking at this outfit again, I think I would have added a burst of color to spice things oppose oppose to another print with the same colors.
ReplyDeleteHot pink comes to mind...

I love it with just the top! I had that same top but gained weight before I ever wore it so gave it away to someone. Now I lost the weight and wish I had it back...lol
ReplyDeletei think its a MISS! but the outfit with the white top is a hit!!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't mustered the courage to mix prints yet, but I am strangely fascinated by the look on the left.
ReplyDeleteI generally steer clear of mixing prints on myself, but I actually really enjoy what you did on the left. I think that maybe because both prints have kind of a leaf theme going on, it helps tie it all together! Both looks are fab, J!!
ReplyDeleteYeah I like the one on the left, but I also agree with Katelyn @ 2:01...A splash of color would have set that off!! :-) BTW, I tried this skirt at The Limited also, it was sooo cute, but on me, at 6'3" it looked like a mini, lol! It's perfect on you.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! I loved hearing what you thought of my little mixing prints experiment. :-)
ReplyDeleteCW, I loved Mondo's work and honestly now I'm wondering if maybe his show influenced me to put this together and I didn't realize it, LOL?
Sarah, I purchased this sweater a few years ago from the Alice Temperley collaboration with Target.
Love mixing prints. Keep the colors the same and the patterns similar in a size and it's a win!
ReplyDeleteSorry, don't like it.... there has to be some formula though. I LOVE that blouse that you are wearing though!!
ReplyDeleteit may be just me but I LOOOOVE the mix!!! haha. looks like i am in the minority.
ReplyDeleteI love the mixture! I'm a HUGE fan of mixing prints...win or fail, I still try. :) This is a win!
ReplyDeletefab look!!!!
