Would you wear a bow tie?

I recently picked up a bow tie on sale at Urban Outfitters for $10, and now I'm just working up the nerve to actually wear it! Would you sport this look to work?

Photo left: My inspiration from Forever21.com. I have another outfit in mind to wear the bow tie with, this is just my "practice" outfit!

  1. I think you can work this look! I have tried, and it doesn't work for me. I'm sticking with a skinny tie for a look like this. :)

  2. Its definitely a fashion statement! I think its cute on you. My one thought would be to pair it with a bit looser of a blouse rather than a tailored one to give that sloppy/professional look. Not too loose obvi, but a little more relaxed fit.

  3. Not sure I like this look. I would try it with black belt and shoes. Not sure it will work this way but would give it a shot:) Also what about rocking this bow-tie with black shorts, white T-shirt, black cardigan (black long socks -optional), black shoes?

  4. I think you wear it well. I might feel kind of silly and/or waiter like in it though!

  5. Not crazy about this one. I'm with Lulamae on the black bottom, white top and a cardigan. Do you really only spend $250 a month? I feel like you spend that in shoes alone. BTW I love all of your shoes! Just recently found your blog and I love it. How do you get the Banana shoes so cheap?

  6. I usually LOVE your looks, but this looks like the uniform of a McDonald's employee... (I mean that in the nicest way possible!!!)

  7. Thanks for all the outfit ideas everyone! Love 'em!! Despite some McDonalds and Perkins references I'm probably going to give the bow tie a chance next week (with a different outfit). We'll see!! :-)

MLR, I add everything up every month so I don't cheat. :-) And starting in September my allowance is going away completely (my job is ending) so things are about to get interesting, LOL!

  8. MLR: Oh, and the shoes I got in the day-after-Christmas sale at Banana. Best sale in the whole world, I got these shoes and another pair for $20 each, a silk shirt for $15 and a ruffled cardigan for $28.

  9. I actually really like it! I think it is fun and different! Personally, I would definitely wear it to work and I work at a conservative public accounting firm. I can't wait to see you wear it to work!

  11. A loose blouse and a longer pant--more similar to the model would look a bit better. I actually just bought two pairs of cropped pants at Old Navy (in Tan and Blue) that would look perfect with the bow tie.

    Here's the cropped pant:

  13. That is the same thing my waitress at Denny's wore yesterday - not commenting good or bad, just sayin'.

  16. The pants are adorable and have a great fit on you. I'm with a few of the others though regarding a more flowy and loose fitting blouse. It will come off as more boyfriend chic than a "Mcdonalds employee" as someone previously stated.

I applaud your fearless fashion endeavors though of trying something different!

  17. This outfit is really cute! I've always been wanting to try a regular tie (still haven't because I can never decide on the perfect tie). But your look here has inspired me to try a bow-tie as well! Thanks for sharing!!
