Today's Everyday Fashion - day to night

A reader requested a "day to night look." It really doesn't get much easier than this - start with a cocktail dress with a long enough hemline for work, and just add a blazer for day. For night, add a clutch (and switch your shoes if you want), and you're ready to party!

Occasion: Work, then dinner/drinks
Dress: Express, $10 (bought many years ago)
Necklace: Banana Republic, $40
Shoes: Banana Republic, $22
Blazer: Banana Republic, $50

  2. Quite the conversation going on on the Facebook page about when to get rid of and when to keep clothes that are several years old (like the dress in today's look). Here's my advice:

I am a pack rat by nature so I probably hang on to too much, but it drives me nuts when I hear "fashion experts" say throw something out if you haven't worn it in 6 months or a year. That is the craziest thing I've ever heard! If something is ripped, or stained, or really doesn't fit you then get rid of it. If it's a T-shirt or sweatshirt from college, get rid of it. If it's sneakers, or pumps that are totally beat to death and worn out, get rid of them. But, if it's a blazer, jacket, dress, or beaded top that just feels old or out of date, HOLD ONTO IT! It will probably come back into style. I was just looking through my collection of college "going out" shirts, they seem brand new to me! And totally current style-wise (it is, eh hem, more than 5 years later). I will definitely be wearing them this season, along with the velvet jacket I haven't touched in years. :-)
