Today's Everyday Fashion: Nighttime

I would wear this inspiration outfit in a heartbeat! The gold cuffs are amazing and *if only* I could afford her t-strap studded Valentinos. I don't have a baby blue skirt like hers, but I do have a top, so I switched the two colors to achieve a going out/nighttime look. I'm also showing the same outfit with black jeans, for those readers who may not prefer to show as much leg. How would you wear it?

Inspiration photo: Refinery29
Shirt: Marshall's, $13 (pricey version, t-shirt)
Skirt: Express, $5 (similar)
Jeans: Gap, $35 (similar)
Shoes: Colin Stuart c/o MJR Sales, $24 (love these, similar)
Purse: Urban Outfitters, $30 (love this one)
Necklace: My Stella & Dot website, $138
Watch: Michael Kors, family gift
Ring: My Stella & Dot website $49 and $69
Bracelets: My Stella & Dot website $59 and $59 and $79

Also, a little shopping update:

1. Banana Republic blouse - I was so excited to score this chain-print blouse at Banana for only $40 last week! It runs true to size (I got a 0 Petite).
2. Banana Republic cardigan - Even more exciting was scoring this burgundy cardigan for only $19. Both prices were right off the sale rack, no coupon.
3. Express peplum top - I spotted this top online and couldn't wait to try it on in the store. However, the fit was way off. The XS was slightly too small in the bust, and the S was way too big. It also cuts in very sharp making it more of a halter and not really work appropriate, so I passed.
4. LOFT blouse - This shirt is way better in person and is super-soft. Love it, but it's similar to #1 so I may pass.
5. Urban Outfitters shoes - I learned a cool trick with Urban Outfitters. A reader told me that these shoes were 50% off in the store, even though they are still full price online. I called my local store but they didn't have them in stock, so I asked if they could ship from another store. That's when they told me they would order them online, free shipping, and I would get the same 50% off store price. Score!
6. Piperlime shoes - I had a 20% off coupon for Piperlime so these shoes were only $48. I don't love them though and they are slightly too big (they fit true to size - I'm a 9.5 but can never find that size so I got a 10), so they are going back.
7. Piperlime dress - This dress was only $30 with the coupon, and I'm on the hunt for sheath work dresses. I would say this dress fits true to size (XS) but the slit in the front is a big no-no on my height. One step forward and I'm showing my whole thigh, which negates the whole work-apporpriate thing.
8. Gap camo pants - I'm dying to find camo pants or a camo jacket, but I was not a fan of these when I tried them on. They are super-stretchy and way more leggings than actual pants!
9. Gap plaid pants - I loved these pants. Totally would've bought them, but I already bought two pairs of cropped pants this fall and don't need another pair so soon.

I struck out on most items, but couldn't be more excited about both Banana scores! Find anything exciting this week? Share your links below!

  4. I'm really into both of your looks, especially because of the unespected element: white heels. It makes it way more special than just wearing a simple black pump, so I love that you chose to wear those gorgeous heels. Anyway, I feel more comfortable in pants, so I would def. wear the second look for a night out. The black jeans are awesome, they fit you like a glove. I adore the length, too. Very flattering on you.
Also, this outfit is so versatile: Add cute wedges instead of the heels and throw on a cute blazer and this second look would totally be work appropriate, right?

  5. I love your take on the outfit, especially the black jeans version.  I am with you with the Valentino shoes.  If only I could afford them.  Every other blogger seems to own them.  I love how you improvised with your T-strap heels.  The pop of ivory/cream is such a fresh touch to the whole outfit.  I love how you switch up the order of colours when you try recreating outfits.  It shows that you are not discouraged easily.  I recently did the same when putting together this outfit: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/10/casual-fall-attire-forest-green-and.html.  I found that reversing the order of the colours gave an overall better effect of achieving the inspiration look.

Love your new purchases!  Zara has some camouflage skinnies which fit small and are thicker.  I think they may work for you - here are their options: http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ItxSolrSearchingDataCmd?storeId=11715&langId=-1&catalogId=21052&searchTerm=camouflage+trousers

I got a few new things I have been coveting for a while, here are the links to the pictures.  I purchased all but the last of these items at The Bay, a department store here in Toronto (on sale!):

  6. I had a good find last week. I saw a winter coat I liked in BH&G magazine and when I went to the maker's website, tulle4us.com, I found that many of their coats are marked down to $50. Score! When it arrived I was impressed with the quality, including nice lining.

  7. I like the look with the skirt better! It's refreshing though to not see you copy the see through shirt with a bralette-esque deal... it's getting really overdone and tends to cheapen an outfit in my opinion!

  10. Cassie, I don't think I would ever be brave enough to do the sheer trend to that extent! It can definitely look cheap, especially living in Florida.

  11. Love those Zara camo options, thank you!

  12. Yes, I agree. At my old job in Boston the second look with different shoes and a blazer would've been perfect! (and would've been a really easy to transition for night)

  13. All of these outfits are so cute!! I would wear any of them, minus those valentinos... Not a fan of spending THAT much money on any one item of clothing/shoes. but they are a beautiful design :)

  14. Inspired by your use of different mustard items lately, I ordered a mustard button down from Forever 21.  I couldn't find a necklace in my accessories to go with the shirt ( new color for me) so I used a black fabric belt as a tie around the neck.  Looked cute with the peter pan color.

  16. I prefer the balance of the look with jeans, but I can't deny you've got the legs for a short skirt! I like the unexpected twist of pale shoes - normally I'd expect to see either nude or black in this situation, you really help me to expand my ideas of what's possible :)

  17. i have that baby blue shirt but with 3/4 sleeves. got it at TJMaxx!

Just stopping by to say that I find the greatest sheath dresses at places like Loehmann's and TJMaxx. They often have pretty quality brands and the prices are great. I love the Calvin Klein dresses and they always have several at these stores.

  20. This is a great look, I feel so inspired! So many blogs just post outfits that are over the top that  most people wouldn't wear in everyday life. I would definitely wear all of this!

  21. Hi J. Love your blog and fashion sense. I am so curious and hope you won't mind telling me how tall you are. We share the same shoe size so I sympathise with you there. Cheers.

  22. I love both looks!  I have a very similar top in the same color and fabric that I wore with white shorts and a white pencil skirt in the summer, but I have been trying to find a way to wear it in the fall. Now I just need the black statement necklace, and I'm good to go!

  23. I love both looks! I am so glad you reviewed those cameo pants from Gap because I was jsut going to buy them but was worried they would be to tight! Have you found any other cameo pants yet? I am on the look for some!

  25. I have those camo pants and I love them!  They are somewhat thick and fit so nicely.  I'm a little curvy so I bought one size up and they are perfect.  I have so many ideas for styling them (for me camo and leopard are neutrals).  I even bought them in black.

  26. I admire your gusto so much!! I would not feel comfy with pants that stretchy on my bum without a long shirt covering it. :-)

  27. Super cute! Love that! I would rock the skirt in a minute, but that's just me! :-) I gave you a shout out on my blog! Check it out! -Vicky D

  28. I just bought a pair of camo pants at Target for $16, they are SUPER cute and fit really well. I couldn't find it on their website, but it's by Xhilaration (typically their pants are too thin for my taste, but these are thicker denim material). You should check out their sale rack!
