There are many ways to add interest to an outfit - color being the one I am personally drawn to the most, but texture is a close second and can make all the difference in the world. In today's outfit, the lime skirt feels like soft tweed, the blazer is silky and has pocket details, the shirt resembles chiffon with a pleated neckline, and the shoes are python embossed. Texture can add zest to an outfit and make inexpensive materials seem more expensive than they are. I love mixing together different textures, especially within the same color family like today's look. What are your favorite clothing textures and how do you mix them together?

I tend to be drawn to clothes that are a solid colour rather than patterned, so I love to pick up pieces with texture to add interest. That shirt I especially like :)
ReplyDeleteI love the combination of a soft shirt with ruffles/frills with a skirt/pants made from stiffer fabric with a slightly rough texture.
Love this look! The color of that skirt looks great with your cream jacket!

I actually prefer your version better. The cut of your pieces work so much better together. And that lime green looks really good on you. I would say 95% of my wardrobe is solid colors and I add pattern and interest via accessories. The blouse on this outfit really makes it happen for me. Love it.
ReplyDeleteAdorable outfit. I have mainly solids in my wardrobe and add patterns with accessories like scarves.

ReplyDeleteFantastic interpretation of the inspiration outfit, J! Your shoes are HAWT. I dunno if I have a favorite clothing texture, but I do looooove leather jackets. Paired with silky, sheer, or flowy materials? Love!

ReplyDeleteThis is a great look. I only recently started playing with texture when it comes to my outfits. Love that lime skirt too!
ReplyDeleteI love this look! It's so soft and pretty but the details keep it really interesting and definitely expensive looking! I totally want a silky blazer now :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Audrey! I love those materials together too. A juxtaposition between hard and soft. :-)

The colour of your skirt is so beautiful! I love pairing opaque fabrics used for structured pieces, like blazers with either silky chiffon like fabrics used for blouses and t-shirt fabrics. I agree that when you go with a monochromatic look, it does make an outfit look more expensive.
ReplyDeleteSide note: Loved your post yesterday. Tried to do my version here and credited you: http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/09/fall-suiting-cool-colours.html
Love the bright of the skirt with the neutrals!!!

Great look. Very classy! I'm with you in that I usually go for colour, but I think I will have to try experimenting with texture.
ReplyDeleteEspecially during the fall season, I enjoy mixing tweed with wool, such as a tweed blazer with a wool turtleneck sweater. I also enjoy mixing hard textures with soft textures, such as leather and lace.
ReplyDeleteLove that skirt! www.dreamboatfashion.com
ReplyDeleteI love it! The skirt is such a beautiful color!
ReplyDeleteLove this jacket with the bright skirt. Cuteness.
