I was browsing through inspiration photos on my computer recently, and landed on this one. I love her outfit and was so excited when I realized I had all the pieces I needed to re-create it. The F21 blazer I picked up in August (from this post) was the final piece to the puzzle, and I flipped the skirt/shirt color scheme based on what I already had in my closet to achieve a similar but more muted tone. I just love finding new combinations created from old pieces and this one in particular is making me crave fall! Would you wear these colors?

My thoughts on this look are that this look is very hard to pull off because the shades of cognac have to be identical or this look can be a total disaster. I also have a jacket and pair of boots in this shade and love to wear them together, but I'm not sure I would wear that shade of magenta/purple with the cognac. This time I truly love the inspiration photo a bit more because the teal skirt works better with the cognac belt she chose and the purple looks better up top. My eyes are just drawn to her version a little more.
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought to put these colours together, but the end result is much more harmonious than you'd expect :)
ReplyDeleteThese bold colors really go well together but I think I would be nervous in it all day.
ReplyDeleteLoving this color combo! The boots are fabulous too!

Super cute! Next weekends project: go through closet to work out fall outfits!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post! I also wanted to wear these colors together (camel blazer + magenta top + teal skinny jeans + neutral pumps) but didn't have the confidence to go for it. Right after I saw your pic, I put the outfit together to wear to work today :) I check your blog everyday - thanks for all the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove these colors J, especially that jacket! Im pumped thats the item you decided to find more of for us, thanks!

ReplyDeleteYes, thank you for the idea Joanna! Here is one example from last year (the belt): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=303317246360685&set=a.213402672018810.68316.120030604689351&type=3&theater
ReplyDeleteForever 21 did that blazer no justice in the photo. The color looked VERY yellow but I love how it looks on you and the actual color. BTW from your august post I got the red and mustard cords from target too! (My fave items thus far)
ReplyDeleteLove the boots. I'm not a big fan of the color of the blazer but you make it look amazing. Great fall colors though. Adore the skirt and top.

I love this look! I would definitely wear it!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely wear those colors. The skirt and the top were two of my favorite colors for a loooong time. (Now I just love too many colors to have a favorite!)
ReplyDeleteI love how you take an inspirational photo and make it your own! Looks like the PERFECT fall outfit, from the jacket to the boots and all of the jewel tone colors.

i love the longer skirt! not all of us can pull of the super short skirts and shorts you normally wear :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this outfit!! Especially the blazer. It is PERFECT for fall. I would definitely wear these color combos. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love this color combo, it makes me ready for fall!

The look is daring. I would like to try it, but I'm a little nervous. Your look is very nice and bold. The inspiration photo is just as nice and subtle. I'll have to look around in my closet to see what I can come up with....the look reminds me of the Solange Style.
ReplyDeleteI love these colors! This puts me in such a fall mood!

I would definately wear these colors! I'm going to lay off the boots until it is cooler, but otherwise, love the look with solids only! BTW, the blazer colors looks much better in the above photo than in the original post - I am now interested!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a great eye for pleasing color palettes!!

I love the colour combination. I have a blazer very similar to the one in the inspiration photo, and have only styled with a simple colour palette like this http://coverupchic.blogspot.ca/2012/06/beads.html. I will try styling it this way and see if it works. Thanks for the inspiration.

Absolutely LOVE the colour combination! And the colour of that skirt is just amazing! This year, I really want to get out of my comfort zone for clothes and you are helping me so much! No more black, grey and brown pants! Bring on the colours! Merci!
ReplyDeleteI was at Target tonight, and they had a bunch of new items in this color combination. I'm normally not very adventurous when it comes to wearing color (I live in DC--we tend to be pretty bland) But I actually found myself putting together very vibrant outfits in this color scheme. I also noticed they had a lot of separates that worked in the same pallate--so I picked up a jacket/skirt combo, and then noticed they had a dress and a blouse in the same tones, so I got it all. Good to mix and match!
ReplyDeleteThanks LH! The shorter skirts/dresses are not by choice - I have a hard time finding ones that are knee-length on me. The same items may fit you totally differently though + I provide various inseam lengths in the shopping picks each day.
ReplyDeleteI agree - bring on the colors! :-)
ReplyDeleteReally nice colour combo. I wouldn't have thought to put these colours together, but they really work well. Love!
ReplyDeleteI want those boots SO bad but they are out of my price range! Do you know of anything similar and cheaper?
ReplyDeleteReally like these colors together -- has a sort of Moroccan feel to it, like jewel-toned colors I would see put together in a naturally-dyed wrap or scarf. I think I would struggle matching the mustard/brown jacket with the leather colors (belt, bag, boots) so it neither seemed too match-y nor like I got dressed in the dark. You seemed to pull it off though, so maybe I'll dig deep in my closet to see what I have too. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the more muted tones that you picked. I would have never thought of picking this because of my limited fashion sense but now that I have seen it I'm all over it. That is when I can snag myself a pretty blazer :)
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit and how you paired those Chinese Laundry boots! I have the same pair but in black they are one of my favorite pairs.
ReplyDeleteI think your outfit is much nice than the one you found for inspiration. I especially prefer your color combination and that you carry a nice bag to match your boots.
ReplyDeleteIs the inspiration photo on the left from the 80's? the jacket style and rolled up sleeves remind me of that period.
Thanks Karen! The photo is a street style shot I found last year (I think!), so I'm pretty sure that is something someone wore in the past couple years!
