So out of character, but I really wanted to wear my new camel pencil skirt with a basic white shirt! I call these palette cleansing looks. I used to rotate my more adventurous looks at work with something simple to give everyone's eyes a break (lol). A blank slate also means an opportunity for some fun with accessories, and while a clutch is not usually part of a work outfit, it's an easy thing to throw in your work bag and add to your outfit for happy hour. How do you accessorize blank slate outfits?

Just had to share this fun Tim Tebow picture from the Jockey event last week! (Please excuse my hair, it was raining buckets.) |
Wrist bling that day: Watch, bracelets one, two, three, four and five |
I think Tim Tebow is a good accessory to any outfit :)
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit! I think sometimes the more "plain" ones are the hardest for me. Cool meeting Timmy! I met him last summer at a book signing event and snagged two signed copies of his book. :) Go Gators!

I actually really like this look a lot! Its a nice change of pace from all the neon happening everywhere right now!
ReplyDeletePs. I featured you in my blog today restyling one of your looks - hope you can check it out!!

I love the simpleness of this outfit. Very clean and sophisticated and charming with the pops of color. I'm so glad I found your blog, it has changed the way I shop and look at my closet!
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who is looking for a bubble necklace and missed out on getting one for the great H&M price :( but doesn't want to spend that much on the Jcrew version I found them on this website for $38! http://dear-monroe.blogspot.com/ check it out! I think I'm buying the yellow one today :D
ReplyDeleteI'm clean slating myself today! Jeans (since it's Friday) and a j.crew perfect shirt in sea foam (which is totally mint). Add in my pearl necklace my parents gave me for graduation, a beaded clutch from Banana Republic, and some white sandals and it's a complete look!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that outfit! I tend to dress more classic than trendy, so it is perfect! Now if only I could find a button-up that actually fit me right!
ReplyDeleteI really like this, J! It's so classic and can be worn anywhere.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm super jealous that you got to meet Mr. Tebow. He's quite the hottie!
Look at you with Tim Tebow! Great outfit in that picture! :) I really love the bracelets!!!

I accessorize blank slates with BIG African- or tribal-inspired jewelry that has a pop of color. I love the blue with camel that you came up with.
ReplyDeleteIsn't my Timmy Tebow beautiful?! Great picture!

J, I love this look so simple and chic. I like to wear a statement necklace with a simple tshit and jeans, easy polish mommy look.
ReplyDeleteBTW, that Tim Tebow is awesome you and your friends look absolutely beautiful :-)
Definitely like this look, although the turquoise necklace/bracelet/ring/bag might be a little matchy-matchy for me.
ReplyDeleteAmazing outfit, look very classy! :)

ReplyDeleteLOVE. I adore wearing neutral colors and adding pops of color with interesting accessories. To me great neutrals are a staple because they can make just about any fun piece.
ReplyDeleteI love it but I also tend to stick to this look for work- classic pieces that I can change the look with accessories. I generally prefer to invest in good pieces that can be interchanged and adding color to those pieces with jewelry or scarves, sometimes color with the shoes. I love the necklace and bracelet (it’s sold out at BR) pairing for a great pop of color but to me, the bag is a little too much. However, at work, I would not be carrying it around with me anyway so I suppose it's not too much then. I’m really loving the necklace lately but man, $150 for the J Crew one is a bit much…. But VERY tempting. When I have to cloth not only myself but a man and 2 (constantly growing) children, sometimes splurging is not an option LOL.
ReplyDeleteSimple & classy! I have the same skirt with the matching jacket. My most recent post has me wearing the jacket a green skirt.

Kristin, try eBay for the necklace - search for "J.Crew bubble necklace" and you'll get a bunch of cheap options for $15. For something a little more sturdy, also check out Etsy. I just got a yellow one from the Etsy store Ily Couture. Hope this helps! :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds adorable Kim!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this tip Sarah! You can also get them on eBay for $15, just search for "J.Crew bubble necklace." For something a little more sturdy, also check out Etsy. I just got a yellow one from the Etsy store Ily Couture.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sara! :-)
ReplyDeleteFirst-time post here! I love this color combo. I tend to stick to more simple looks like this one (although, your blog has inspired me to step a little outside my comfort zone at times), so this outfit is very "me."
ReplyDeleteLove the camel, white, and turquoise together. So classy and polished. Love the Tim Tebow pic too! Happy Friday!

OMG you got a picture with Tim Tebow! As someone who graduated from UF I would have loved to been at that event!

I paired a similar triangle shaped necklace with a white dress shirt who's button stopped where the third button would normally be. I pulled the necklace chain closed closer to around 14 inches so that it sat perfectly in the space left open by my white shirt.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this outfit! I feel like I've been on a mission for camel colored pumps after seeing you wear yours with so many outfit options. I hope I find some that are both cute and comfy! Turquoise is one of my favorite accent colors. This combo is so classy, great job!
ReplyDeleteI like this look, it's clean, simple yet very nicely put together. I like blank looks like that one because you can play with accessories. I always change belts and play around with different shapes and colors and spice it up with killer shoes. I love the brown belt you chose to go with the shoes. Really pretty. And the blue accessories are really great eye-catchers as well.
ReplyDeleteLove this look with the camel & turquoise!

I love how this "blank slate" outfit shows off your gorgeous turquoise accessories! I love bold colors and prints too, but every once in a while it's nice to wear neutrals and let the accessories stand out!
ReplyDeletea scarf - I seem to always wear a scarf, often on my head, combining the easy blank slate look with a HairNeedsWashing day in one!

LOVE this look. So simple, yet so fun because you are able to accessorize!! Love!
ReplyDeletelove the dress on that picture... where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteLove this! It's nice to have a clean and simple look once in a while. Also love that print dress on you, you look great!
ReplyDeleteLindsay @ LindsayJEveryday.blogspot.com
Love this look. chic and simple!
ReplyDeletework-it-blog.blogspot.com
You are hilarious J! I agree that sometimes it is nice to just wear something simple. Wearing trendy and colorful outfits is nice sometimes but wearing different looks makes you more versatile. You are definitely my favorite style blogger because you do try have your own style, even when you try new trends you add something special to it that makes it your own.
ReplyDeleteLove this necklace!!! I couldn't find it at H&M online, but if you were willing to splurge, J. Crew has it in six colors... http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/jewelry.jsp (But there are many for cheap on eBay!)
ReplyDeleteLove love love!! Super classy!
ReplyDeleteOh and I am a testament to the J crew necklace from Ebay and they are FAB!!!! Great quality! I have 3!!
ReplyDeleteOliviamoone.blogspot.com
Ember, my necklace is 2 years old, and H&M doesn't do online shopping in the U.S. yet. I link to the same J.Crew necklace in my post (that's what the photo is of), but the eBay version I've heard bad reviews about so I didn't recommend it in my post. I would check Etsy though, or Vestique. Those are more reputable sellers with slightly higher price points that should last longer!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :-) Imagine it without the purse. That's how you would look walking down the office at work. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Kemi! :-)
ReplyDeleteI got that dress last fall from McAuleys, one of my favorite online boutiques. The brand is Aryn K.
ReplyDeleteI love blank slate outfits precisely because they showcase colorful, fabulous accessories! ;) Love this on you! ;)
ReplyDeletedon't like the XL jeans belt much prefer a correctly sized skinny belt on a skirt, so over twisted belts! the color combo of turquoise, tan, and white I do like. will have to dig through the closet to find items that "go" in those colors!
ReplyDeleteWell, darn, I just saw your response to Ember. I actually loved that necklace so much that I ordered the Ebay version. There were different listings, and the one I chose said it was an "authentic" J Crew necklace, so I guess we'll see, right?! I just love that piece so much.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love these colors together. While it's a safe outfit, it's a smart outfit and very stylish and fashionable.
And was Tim nice in person?
Natalie, no unfortunately I don't think they are "authentic" BUT you got a good deal so hopefully it will hold up! :-) And yes, Tim was incredibly gracious in person. Greeted everyone with a very genuine bear hug. Nice guy.
ReplyDeleteI love turquoise with white - such a delicious combination!
ReplyDeletehttp://tri-skelos.blogspot.com/
Love this! Might have to go to the Limited to see if they still have the skirt! I'm always so impressed at the awesome deals you get on things! I think part of my problem is that the good stores are 50 minutes away and it's hard for me to go that far with the kiddo :)
ReplyDeletegasp! how fun, u got a pic w/tebow? pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteI really like this outfit J! Its work appropriate but the accessories keep it fun. I love seeing this "office friendly" types of outfits :)
ReplyDeleteI bought the $15 version on eBay and have worn it several times since I got it with no problems. I haven't had it that long, but the quality is better than I was expecting after some of the reviews I saw.
ReplyDeleteI like to wear bright red matte lipstick with a blank slate outfit. :)
ReplyDeletewear did you get that dress you're wearing in the Tim Tebow picture?? love it!
Love that, wish I was brave enough for red lipstick. :-)
ReplyDeleteI got the dress last fall from McAuley's, one of my favorite online boutiques. The brand is Aryn K.
So jealous you got to meet Tebow! He is so handsome, even in a white t-shirt and jeans! lol Great dress, btw. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this combo! You look classic but fun!
ReplyDeleteI would wear this outfit to work.

I wear colorful shoes with blank slate outfits. I love wearing white. I pair it with black or denim bottoms so i can rock these aztec/ikat sandals i love.
ReplyDeleteP.S. You inspired me to buy camel pants today! I usually would've passed them right by. But you have given me so many ideas on how to wear them. So I scooped them up!
Another favorite of mine! I love, love, love this simple outfit. This is a lot more my style and look forward to recreating it! Thanks for the inspiration!
