Something about the casual, effortless style of the mint dress and jean jacket in this inspiration photo is making me craving a summer BBQ! I instantly wanted to re-create it, but since I don't own a jean jacket, I layered a light blue oxford shirt I've had for years over a flowy mint dress instead. (See how else I wore it here.) Add one part boat shoes and I'm ready for a casual stroll through a farmer's market, a BBQ or even to run errands. What are you wearing this holiday weekend?

I'm wearing something similar to a grill-out (it's only called a BBQ if there is BBQ sauce, in the Midwest), today!
ReplyDeleteYou don't own a jean jacket??? I hope you have one on your June shopping list!
ReplyDeletenow i'm hungry for some hot dogs! you look great, j! love that mint dress!
ReplyDeleteJean jackets are one of those items that can look good on others, but I personally don't ever see myself wearing one! :-)
ReplyDeleteToo funny - I'm from Kansas in the Midwest and I would definitely still call it a BBQ. Or a grill-out, either one. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'll be going to a town wide party - it's challenging to dress for. I'm not a shorts girl, it's going to be brutally hot, lots of walking, and people will dress generally cute, but not dressy. I'm wearing a short black jersey skirt and a flowered cotton tank top with nude flat sandals. Still debating on hair and jewlery.
ReplyDeleteI love your boat shoes! Perfect BBQ outfit with the mix of dressy and casual :)
ReplyDeleteLove the color... totally says summer BBQ!
ReplyDeleteLove the blue chambray shirt with the green! Such a beautiful combination! And, you must invest in a jean jacket! Either white or a medium to light wash for Spring/Summer! They are just so versatile and perfect for Florida! I used to live in Florida, so I think that you will end up using on often! xx

that color looks great on you! I've been on the lookout for something in this color for awhile, but haven't found anything yet. I"m surprised at your shoe choice though, I would expect some summer sandals, I like the idea of shoes with shorts and dresses, but I always find it hard to make it out of the house with them on, I usually end up changing to a simple pair of flip flops.
ReplyDeleteI just got a pair of metallic boat shoes...I love them!
ReplyDeleteThis look is so cute, but that dress is way too short for me! Can Forever 21 make any dresses that cover more than just the butt cheeks?! (I know they carry maxi dresses, but the cutest dresses are always 28" long-- how is that a dress?!) Living in a windy place makes me super nervous it will fly up and bare everything unless I'm wearing biker shorts :/
ReplyDeleteLeanne, I wanted to mimic the sneakers in the inspiration photo, and sometimes BBQs include kickball or something of that sort, so boat shoes would be better for that. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree that F21 dresses are cut short, and that is mostly because they are junior's sizing (see this post: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/05/todays-everyday-fashion-juniors-section.html). For something longer, I would stick to the women's section/women's stores! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love a knotted shirt - the perfect cover up! I had a great jean jacket but gave it to a friend last summer and now I wish I still had it :(

Love the color combination of
ReplyDeleteyour outfit!
Just a follow up.. I did a little digging after your response, and I noticed that the Love21 line (of F21 online) *tends* to be on the longer side (~35").
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly right, Kate! The Love 21 line uses nicer fabrics like real silk, fits true to size, and is essentially not a junior's section (more like misses). Dresses are definitely a tad longer there!
ReplyDeleteIn addition to your outfit's great............ *SAND*, (i.e., camel tan purse and pale, burnished-gold shoes)............ *SEA*, (i.e., mint green dress and light jade earrings)............ and *SKY*, (i.e., light blue shirt)............ color combinations here, I also really like how you've~~so artistically!!~~"knotted-the-knot"............ of (the ends of) your light blue oxford shirt, J.!!
ReplyDeleteThis is actually such a small, SMALL detail; however............ instead of a "flopped-over," clumsy type of (shirt-ends) fabric "tie" that I'D probably be likely-to-do, (haha!!)............ your *careful*, and very considered, tying OF the fabric............ INTO a Heritage-Style Knot............ really gives your total outfit............ such a genuinely "finished, pulled-together" look!!
I'd also love to maybe (someday) see you wear a plain, "flowy" silk shirt knotted-and-tied............ (i.e., *exactly* like you've knotted-and-tied your blue oxford cloth shirt here!!)............ OVER............ say, a top (or dress) with *s.e.q.u.i.n.s.* on it!!
I am obsessed with everything mint and love all of the cute dresses you posted.
