I wore this outfit a couple weeks ago to a Leading Ladies Luncheon. (It was the National Day of prayer, and we prayed for the leaders of our country by name - it was really neat.) I threw this outfit together and snapped the photo on my way out the door. I love a blue monochromatic look, and thanks to some new-ish pieces in my closet, this is a take on it that I haven't done before. I was completely obsessed with the ocean as a child (and still am), and I think that could be why sea tones speak to me so much. Would you ever wear a monochromatic blue look?

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love it! Blue is my favourite colour, I think for reasons similar to yours - I love the sea.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the blue monochromatic look! Cobalt blue (and mint) are my favourite shades of the season. Can't wait to try it myself!
ReplyDeleteI love the two colors together! Teal is one of my favorite colors and I never thought to mix it with blue but the two look great together :-)

what a perfect pairing, you're fabulous at knowing just which colors to match together! beautiful!
ReplyDeletesarahsavvystyle.blogspot.com
these colours are beautiful on you - I so need to live somewhere sunny!x
ReplyDeleteProbably one of my favorite outfits to date! I do have issues with shoes though- I am boring and would probably try wearing a nude pump. :(
ReplyDeleteI love all the different blues. Thanks for the inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteAmanda, nothing wrong with that! I have done a nude pump with a blue look before, so I wanted to switch it up this time. ;-)
ReplyDeleteFYI - you can also find necklaces just like this for WAY cheaper than the J. Crew verison on etsy if you search turquoise bubble necklace... just thought I'd share for those who missed the H&M $14 verison and don't want to put up the money for the $150 J. Crew version. I paid $40 for mine!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved the ocean too and I'm always drawn to teal and navy! I love this outfit, thanks for the inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to leave a comment that I found your blog last week via pinterest and I am in love. I normally never actually follow fashion blogs but just wanted to tell you how amazing your stuff is. I love your style and love fashion and yours is the perfect take on it!
ReplyDeleteAlso wanted to list a website that my friend started that sells the J Crew necklace knockoff that you are wearing. Just bought me the coral, and tourquise yesterday and I am in love.

I love love love this look. Could definitely be one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI'm confused by the MJR Sales website. How do you find all these great things there? It's so hard to navigate. I can't find anything.
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE this outfit!

ReplyDeleteLove this! Pinning it right now!
ReplyDeleteI really love monochromatic looks. Outfits that never went together now do! :) And they look great! This is definitely one of my favorites from you. I think I need to go play in my closet a little more now... :) Thanks! haha
ReplyDeleteHave a good day!!!

I love colors inspired by the sea as well...its so refreshing. Beautiful outfit!
ReplyDeleteThe colors are very beautiful, I love your necklace!
ReplyDeleteI bought this necklace from ebay and it arrived yesterday. I need to go back thru your posts and figure out how to wear it! I love your shades of blue look here...maybe I can pull off something similar!
ReplyDeleteLove that necklace and the shades of blue. So cute!

Took me a while to figure out how to make the site work for me as well....now I go to a particular clothing category Ive got on my want list (like shoes, womens-pants, womens-tops&blouses)) and first filter to my size. If thats a managable number, I'll look through them all. If not, I'll filter a little more like long sleave for tops or heels for shoes. Now I pick things up regularly from thesite!
ReplyDeleteOh, and check it often...its just depends on what they get when and they tend to have more of certain things in particular sizes. I'm a 12 and can't find a lot of the tops J does but have gotten lots of great shoes and work pants.
ReplyDeleteHi J, Love your look, as always! What do you think of wearing this with coral pumps? Too much contrast or stick with nude if I can't do those rockin' shoes you have...but I wish I could ;) Renee
ReplyDeleteLove the blue!

Oh this isn't helping my love affair with blue! haha I have so many blue items but they're so lovely. I might just have to recreate this outfit :) Thanks J!
ReplyDeleteHi J, love yor blog, and hatero be a negative nelly, but I am disappointed to see that more and more items ou feature are c/o ($104) in this post alone. I recognize this happens more and more as a blogger grows in popularity, and I am happy for your success, but as that happens you also love further and further away from being "everyday" fashion..
ReplyDeleteNever thought about a monochromatic blue look like this, but definately will in the future!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I will be trying this very soon, maybe with navy & pastels!
ReplyDeleteJ, I absolutely love this look - it reminds me of a beautiful handblown glass oil lamp I have in different shades of blue that I bought at the coast a while back. I would definitely wear monochromatic blues, and actually put an outfit together recently that included the same necklace as you're wearing with a cobalt dress. You look great!
ReplyDeleteI really like this monochromatic look and I'm feeling inspired to start creating some with my wardrobe! The blue really does pop!
ReplyDeleteOh My .. I LOVE this outfit!! Want it all!! :) I just ordered the coral necklace off ebay like the turquoise one you have!! I have blue capris the color of your skirt so I might have to try this look with something! I ordered coral shoes from Ruche like your teal ones but they were 5 inch heels and I just couldn't do it!! I am more of a wedge, flat or small heel person! :) Love your blog!!
ReplyDeleteI love this look too! You look great! You have such great ideas, J!
ReplyDeleteJ, love the outfit (and the blog in general)! I enjoy the shirt so much that I clicked on the link to look into purchasing it, but got an error screen on MJR's site. Any idea what search terms would take me to your shirt (can't remember if they actually use style numbers)? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat look! This inspired me to try a monochromatic look.

Loving the sea tones! You've mixed so many tones in this outfit and it looks fab!

I love this! I really like the
last three looks with the blue skirt. I've done a look similar to the floral
top one, and I have the pieces to recreate the other two!
Renee, if you are carrying the clutch, I wouldn't probably wouldn't do coral. With a neutral purse though, it could work! I definitely like the idea of coral shoes with white jeans and this top!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :-) And yes, MJR Sales is a definite treasure hunt. I generally shop there 3-4 times and don't order anything, before I score something awesome and place an order. Here is a link to my post on all my shopping secrets for that website - my biggest tip? Stick to the New Arrivals, and then narrow it down using the searches on the side - all the best stuff is there! http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/03/todays-everyday-fashion-my-new.html
ReplyDeleteThanks for adding these tips Julie! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip on the Etsy necklace Emily! And I'm so glad you like the blog, thank you!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Brooke - as I mentioned in the post, you can also get them for $15 on eBay (from a company). Thankfully there are lots of choices for different price points!
ReplyDeleteYour color choice for the occasion is very soothing and relaxing, and it goes well with the type of event you're going to. I love how you managed to combine different shades of blue into an ocean-like theme. I also like the color blue so I'm into these clothes with flowy material.
ReplyDeleteI once put together a gift outfit, (for my younger sister), of a deep navy blue A-line skirt; a pastel blue sleeveless shell; and a royal blue, open-weave crocheted, short sleeve cardigan. With her blonde hair and light hazel/teal-blue eyes, my sister just "blended right into" her 2nd Grade Classroom that year............ with it's (newly-painted) medium *blue* walls, (haha)!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a very calming, professional look for my sister's very busy days, and............ she (and her colleagues!!) always felt such a GREAT *sense of blue*............ (i.e., even more than, say, if my sister had worn a solid-blue dress)............ whenever she wore her "Blue-On-Blue" Outfit to work!!
Loooove your outfit! The colors are amazing together. But I think I would have either skipped the shoes for a neutral pair or the clutch for a neutral one, so it doesn't come out too matchy-matchy. But overall, awesome look!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the tip on the necklace! I've been admiring the J Crew one for awhile, but wasn't going to pay that much for it! Just found it on eBay for $14.50!

J, just wondering if you could comment on the fit and quality of the Express and Charlotte Russe skirts. I love your cobalt pencil skirt, and want to pick one up for myself, but neither of these stores are in my area, so I'm a little hesitant to order from them.
ReplyDeleteBrooke, I haven't tried on either skirt so I can't comment on sizing. Based on my experience of shopping in those stores though, the Express one is going to be much higher quality. C Russe is junior's, so the fit will be shorter, tighter and most likely not work appropriate. Hope this helps a little! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the blue look! You're reminding me of the Caribbean!

So inspired by this look that I am wearing my own version...Target Blue Merona pencil skirt, http://www.target.com/p/Merona-Womens-Doubleweave-Skirt-Assorted-Colors/-/A-13932495#?lnk=sc_qi_detailimage , Hinge white cami http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/hinge-jersey-tank/3223974?origin=category&resultback=1220, Splendid Blue Yacht sweater belted with a skinny pewter belt from Target (which I bought a year ago and have never worn) http://www.splendid.com/Yacht_Stripe_Loose_Knit_Cardigan/pd/c/104/np/104/p/5890.html and metallic peep toe wedges. I have gotten soooo many compliments on my outfit today, even from my hubby.
ReplyDeleteBeen following you for a week now and am sooo inspired to put together things in my closet I never thought of. I have gotten in the habit of just throwing on trousers or a skirt with a blouse or cami and cardi and calling it a day. I am know thinking in terms of outfits and not just clothes (if that makes sense). Thank you!
Love it Gloria! Welcome to the blog and I'm so glad you like it!! :-)
ReplyDeleteAnother Etsy shop that is selling the necklaces: http://www.etsy.com/shop/ilycouture. This shop is fun because they not only have the necklace in one single color, but they have also have versions with two or more colors in the necklace!
ReplyDeleteThis is soooo funny- but I put together a VERY similar outfit myself this morning- over here in Denver! I have never done a monochromatic blue look and by the time I did my makeup I couldn't stand myself in it! haha! I had a bright turquoise tank, a royal blue light blazer jacket over and a high waist, body con, deep violet skirt. I kept the skirt, changed my shoes into a brown oxford heel and put on a sleeveless, peach blouse with beading on the front. I couldn't handle so much blue/purple on me- but your outfit looks amazing! Maybe I'll have to try it again!
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! It sounds cute to me, but colorblocking is fickle - if one color is even just a tad off, it can look funny. It sounds like you have some great pieces to do a monochromatic blue look though, so I would def try again! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous. I love this color combo and have been a little obsessed with this shade of green lately.

You’re so naturally beautiful,
I wish more models were like you!
I love your blog!The
photography is so cool. You had created your own distinct style on the blog.
This is gorgeous - it's less monochromatic than it is analogous, and you've styled this beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I have a light blue skirt, so I may wear a dark blue top! Thanks for the inspiration... now if only I could find a cute necklace!!
ReplyDeleteIly Couture on etsy also sells a similar necklace that is cheaper then the J Crew version
