Day 2 of my roadtrip yesterday and this is what I wore! I was inspired to put together this outfit from the Madewell photo below. I liked it so much, I saved it to wear on this trip. The day started cloudy so I didn't need the hat, and I lost the heavy necklaces in favor of a small pendant. I spent the day doing shopping research for my VISIT FLORIDA gig - lots of getting in and out of the car to snap photos of Worth Ave, Vero Outlets and much more. It proved to be a great comfy outfit for the occasion and although I originally bought these boat shoes for Europe last fall, I am liking them for this summer, too! Are you a fan of boat shoes/would you wear them?

I'm afraid I'm not a fan of boat shoes. I wasn't in the 1980s and I'm not again. I'm not usually that casual and don't even own sneakers so I guess it's just a matter of what fits with your personal style.
ReplyDeleteI love the boat shoes! In fact, I loved these particular ones so much that I was on the hunt for them before we took out winter vacation this year. After roaming the mall and finding nothing even remotely similiar, I gave up my search and headed to Macy's to look for some shorts. Lo and behold, I found these EXACT boat shoes on the clearance rack, and since it was in December, I scored mine for $16! My husband laughed at my shiny boat shoes at first, but I've received so many compliments that he finally came around! Love the comfortable and fashionable alternative to sneakers for summer!
ReplyDeleteI love them! However, I bought a cheap pair from Target to use as comfy sight seeing shoes for a trip to Chicago and hated them. Luckily I tried them around the house first and they rubbed blisters very quickly. They had a shorted top to them, if that makes sense, that I don't like the more I look at them. If I could find a steal on a metallic pair I would snatch them up in a heartbeat though!
ReplyDeleteThis is the second time I've seen these shoes and I love them more and more. I'm sold. Heading to one of you suggestions to go purchase them! Thanks for always inspiring me.
ReplyDeleteXoxo,
Di

Jeez! With those legs you could make a burlap sack look good. Love those shorts. Wish I could do that length.
ReplyDeleteI do like boat shoes but it's been so long since I had a pair. As a kid, we had a boat and well, therefore I had boat shoes to wear on said boat to nut scuff up the surfaces. I believe they were Bass ones and you did the cute little curly thing on the end of the laces. Ahh, the 80’s…they were functional then I guess LOL. I am glad someone posted about the Target ones- I just saw them last week and was debating on them or not. I like the variety Sperry has to offer but I am not sure I really want to shell out $80+ for a pair. Hmm, still on the fence on this one.
ReplyDeleteI also like the fedora, I just bought a similar one, it’s a look I hope to get a lot of use out of this summer. Nice alternative to the baseball cap and I just cannot pull off the floppy hat J
i like the boat shoes - i used to rock them all the time but haven't in a while. and the goofy pics are the best!
ReplyDeleteI love boat shoes!! You look so cute.
ReplyDeleteCreamy
love this outfit with the boat shoes! It's so summery and fun! : )

it's even more goofy if you took it with a timer! tell me you didn't!x
ReplyDeletelove the look (except the boat shoes, I just can't get 'on board', sorry, with them)
Julie, that was so smart to try them around the house before your trip! I think shoes you need to walk in a lot are important to invest a little $ in. These are real leather, and I linked to them in the caption - one store has them for only $40!
ReplyDeleteKristin - I link to my shoes in the caption. Real leather and one website has them for only $40! :-)
ReplyDeleteToo funny, I had no idea they were in style in the 1980s?! I don't wear sneakers either (other than to the gym) but these are a great alternative for someone who needs that kind of comfy shoe!
ReplyDeleteCute outfit- love the plaid button up w/ fedora. I currently have an obsession with boat shoes, so thoroughly enjoyed this post.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about Old Navy and the boat shoes. Although I support Toms and their contributions, they can add up $$!I really wanted the white crochet Toms (but $70 Cdn. is a bit much), and found something very similar at Old Navy for 1/4 the price! I keep getting compliments and asked where I found them!
Way cute!! I haven't invested in a gold pair of boat shoes yet, but I think they're adorable. And I am loving the new pastel plaid shirt trend going on right now!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the gold boat shoes!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with boat shoes and have been looking for an affordable pair. I just bought some silver ones at Nine West but the ones you linked from 6pm.com might have to come home with me, too. Your outfit is adorable and the boat shoes go with it perfectly.
ReplyDeleteYou are a lucky girl - you do look great in everything. I will have to get a hat like that for my summer vacation to protect myself from sun. I never knew those are boat shoes! But then English is my second language. I need a pair of dark blue comfy shorts. Please do share your finds and outfit styles if you have or get one. Thank you!

Boat shoes are the best! For me they are a comfy alternative to my Tory Burch flats (which get uncomfortable quickly). I also have them in gold, black glitter and just bought the bright orange floral Milly for Sperry style. I plan to rock them all summer long :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE my boat shoes.
ReplyDeleteI have dark brown leather Sperry's and I have to say, definitely the best shoe purchase of my recent years. They are so durable, comfortable, and look so cute with everything. I recommend springing for the real thing (Sperry's especially) because they will last you forever. I have friends who have had pairs for 10+ years... so worth it!If I can find a good gold pair like these, I'll be on it!
Cute, Cute! I love this look but my teenager LOVED it!!!! She has pink metallic sperry's, purple/white gingham w/ clear sequins over (WOW!) and then she just purchased brown ones.
ReplyDeleteI feature thrift or super discount clothes and we found an almost identical Abercrombie plaid top for only $3.99 at thrift store .. we will post later this week.
Last night we went through your blog and she is now inspired to mix & match more colors or at least incorporate neon more often, plus I have been instructed to buy some neon skinny belts like yours! pippa

ReplyDeleteI love this post because I am obsessed with boat shoes. I'm usually a heel girl as well as a bargain shopper, yet two pairs of Sperrys have found their way into my wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteThey are just so darn comfy and preppy looking....plus I love all the fun colors/prints! Your gold ones are adorable(-:

I almost bought Rock Candy shoes just like those on Saturday. Now I am going to have to go back, hoping they are still there. :)
ReplyDeleteI love my boat shoes but honestly only wore them with pants. I have that same shirt and green jcrew shorts that I was going to pair with it. I will try the boat shoes instead of my brown flip flops.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those boat shoes! They're totally not something I would look for on my own! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI can't wear boat shoes, I wore them in the 80's and can't do it again. A few things just hit me that way.
ReplyDeleteI will, thanks J!!!
ReplyDeletewe are going to do a copy-cat of this look, of course we will give credit to our inspiration :)
I love my gold boat shoes. I did a post on my blog inspired by you about them:

I have boat shoes. I like that they look OK with shorts but I still feel they look a little weird on me. I don't know what it is.
ReplyDeleteWe did a thrift store copy-cat version, this outfit was our inspiration photo:

I love boat shoes and I've been kicking myself for the past year when I realized I got rid of mine when we sold our boat. Silly me, how did I not know they were going to be such a fashion statement. (My husband bought them for me and I secretly hated them, tend to favor heels, pretty sandals)
