The first 3 days in Paris were full of sightseeing: the Louvre (highly recommend!), the Eiffel Tour, Notre Dame, Montmatre, Moulin Rouge, Arc de Triomphe, and people watching on the Champs-Élysées, just to name a few. Unfortunately the contents of our camera were erased from the first two days so I don't have any photos to share (booooo). Yesterday's post was actually day #3 in Paris, and on day #4, we ventured outside of the city to see Versailles. If you've ever seen Marie Antoinette the movie then you might be just a *tad* obsessed with Versailles like I am. My favorite part was THE hallway (picture below) but every detail of the palace was absolutely gorgeous. It's located about 20 minutes outside of Paris in an adorable suburb also called Versailles. We walked through a farmer's market there, and stopped to sample a local bakery where I had my first macaron (amazeballs)! My first cousin grew up in Kansas like I did, but moved to France more than 25 years ago. She joined us for the trip along with her son and we had an amazing time catching up on family stuff and enjoying the sites! Definitely one of my favorite days on the trip!
About my outfit: we didn't really get an close-up of this outfit, but you can see a very similar rendition and a close-up in this post. Despite being overcast, it was an unusually hot and humid day. I wound up not ever needing a jacket, and even my boots were a little too hot. These are my most comfortable shoes though so it was nice to give my tootsies a rest that day! :-) Have you ever been to Paris? What were your favorite sites?
Dress: Spence c/o Ross, $20
Belt: Gap, $15
Necklace: My Stella & Dot website

I never really had Paris on the radar as a place to go, but I think I might now. Also, that girl to your right in the striped shirt is looking pretty stylish herself!
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos! Palace of Versailles is so surreal. I hope to visit Paris one day. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI *loved* Musee d'Orsay when I was in Paris last time. Versailles is such a great day trip, the gardens are amazing! (I admit to not appreciating them fully the first time I was there though, 17 and at the tail end of a 2 week trip, I have pics of me sleeping sitting up on the walls leading from the palace to the gardens with some other ppl from the trip lol)
ReplyDeleteLove Paris and love your blog! I could spend an entire day in L'Orangerie looking at Monet's waterlilies. I bought my first leopard print item yesterday - a great pair of heels - now working on the perfect outfit in which to debut them!
ReplyDeleteThis is my dream trip! I cannot wait to visit one day!

I went to Paris back in May for the first time. I loved it! I did all the things you mentioned in your blog today - best trip ever! Love your outfits so far :)
ReplyDeleteOh Jules, I can totally imagine that!! I hear you on being exhausted at the end of two weeks though. We were in London at that point and I was pretty over it. :-)
ReplyDeleteParis is so fun! I was only there for a couple days in the spring, but it is really so neat (although I wouldn't say it's one of my favorite cities - it felt SO dirty to me!). The best thing I did when I was there was a back alley bike tour - it was AMAZING. Our tour guide (a cute Kiwi) showed us all sorts of things you would never notice if you weren't a local - bullet holes in the sides of buildings from the Nazi occupation, street art (as a big "Exit Through the Gift Shop" fan I was so excited), and cute courtyards inside of buildings. It was so neat.
ReplyDeleteAnd aren't macarons ('macaroons' in US English refers to the coconut cookies) amazing? My friend and I got a HUGE box from laudree (it was something like 50 Euros, insane), but the salted butter caramel was my absolute favorite.
Yes, please put Paris on your radar, it is amazing!! I really wish we hadn't lost our other photos because there are so many great places I didn't get to share. Give yourself at least 3-4 days, there is tons to do! And yes - that is my cousin, she has always been very stylish! :-)
ReplyDeletelove reading about your trip--my favorite thing about Paris was Eurodisney! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a great time J, and looked fantastic while doing it. I almost feel bad for you having you first macaroon though, they are SO DAMN GOOD! Expect cravings!
ReplyDeleteAshley, we spent tons of time getting lost on purpose in Paris and exploring neighborhoods that are not at all tourist destinations and I have to agree that is some of the best stuff you see there! I am shocked you thought it was dirty though. My cousin was saying the same thing (she lives in on the coast of France, but I thought it was so clean! In Rome, the graffiti is so thick on the trains that you can't see out the window to see what stop you are at. Everyone literally gets up and rushes to the door to see what stop it is. There is trash everywhere, and if you put your hand on any public surface it's immediately covered in goo. Trust me, Paris is not that dirty!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha yes! It was definitely a life-changing moment. My eyes got so big when I took the first bite, my cousins immediately started laughing at me! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous. I LOVE Paris and really want to go back. We were only there for 3 1/2 days...not nearly enough time Everything about it is gorgeous and delicious and wonderful. We went to a bunch of the usual tourist places in the little time we were there. Places you didn't mention that we went to were the Musee D'Orsay (they have lots of Monet and Manet if you're in to that kinda art...hubby and I are huge fans and loved it there) and Printemps (sp?), which might be right up your alley. Its a mall with a bunch of designer everything (clothes, purses, etc), but a lot of it is hugely discounted. Also add in the fact that Americans get their tax money back, so its even cheaper still. I got my first Coach purse there. It was originally $750 in American dollars, but we ended up only paying about $250 after all the discounts.
ReplyDeleteWow is that absolutely amazing!! Versailles looks so breathtakingly beautiful, I would love to visit someday. Awesome pics of Paris, and love the outfit! Can't wait to see more recaps :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love Versailles so much! The Rodin museum gardens were pretty incredible too! I never did get to go to the Louvre because they were on strike. Now I have an excuse to go back :)

I love Paris so much! We just went in August (3rd time for me, 2nd for the hubby) and I would love to go back.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing is getting lost in a neighborhoods and just sitting in a cafe, drinking some coffee or wine. That is what the Parisian life is all about! And of course the macarons. The pistachio are the BEST!
I love your blog BTW!! You always look super cute and put together. Your takes on the inspiration photos give me inspiration!
I would love to see Paris and Versailles someday. I've always wanted to go to Europe - there is just so much more history than here in the US. I'm loving your pictures - I get to live vicariously through your trip!!
ReplyDeleteTotally a fan of the olive dress and cognac pieces! I went to Paris on a family trip as a teenager but I hardly remember it. I want to go again as an adult, and these pics only enhance the itch to do so!
ReplyDeleteI have been to France :) I loved the Eiffel Tower, and we went outside of Paris to the French country side which was gorgeous. I loved the Arch and seeing the original Mona Lisa also!
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit in this post!
I am dying to go back to Paris. We took a 7 day Europe cruise and spent one very fast paced exhausting day seeing as much as we possibly could! We didn't have time to actually Do anything.... we ran as fast as we could to the landmarks- Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre. I terribly need a week to really discover it!
ReplyDeleteVersailles looks beautiful! I would love to visit it one day. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like your sightseeng outfit - it's cute and dressy, while being comfortable for walkin a lot. Love it!))

Which macaroon flavor did you get??? They are my weakness in life!!! Love love loveeeee
ReplyDeleteI love Paris! Versailles was one of my favorites too! When my husband and I went it was late February and light jacket weather. While we were there I fell in love with scarves. That obviously worked to my advantage now that scarves have been so in style the last few years in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteLiz, I think I had praline and raspberry. So amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI guess it just depends what you call dirty. I agree that Paris in that season can be pretttty gross. But nothing is ever as bad as Rome. It smells terrible there in the summer too!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be talking about Rome more in a couple days but it was actually my favorite city! It was filthy, but totally worth it. I loved it there and can't wait to go back someday. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Ania! So glad you like the blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the recommendations Rachelle! I honestly didn't do any shopping in Paris, mostly just wanted to do historical stuff and relax since shopping usually feels like work. :-) That mall sounds awesome though, and I had no idea that you could find great deals like that in Paris. Since the dollar is so weak, I avoided buying things!
ReplyDeleteYou look great, as always. I think I need some cognac shoes and belts in my life! (and maybe a cute little crossbody bag...) I think we also need to make your cousin's outfit a featured outfit - simple, but I love the pop of the orange with the red/orange comfy looking shoes! Totally casual done right.
ReplyDeleteI agree, she looked adorable! Stay tuned b/c I wore a striped shirt similar to her on this trip not once but twice! :-)
ReplyDeleteoh i loved Versailles!
ReplyDeleteyou look adorable as a tourist
brett
Nice photos! :) I too will go to Paris one day *sigh*

I Love Paris! Just got back from my 2nd trip (first for hubby) about 2 weeks ago. I agree, the Palace of Versailles is stunning and I loved the hall of mirrors too!
ReplyDeleteVersailles is so beautiful, isn't it? We were there in the summertime and the gardens were out of this world gorgeous! So many colors, so many flowers...it was to die for!
ReplyDeleteHi J!!!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the style name of your boots you got from Bakers? Were they Tate? I love the boots you have because they are so versatile.
Thanks,
Amy
Amy, I believe that is the style name! These boots are also almost identical from Chines Laundry: http://www.shopjcloset.com/chinese-laundry-chinese-laundry-turbo-leather-boots-p-123.html
ReplyDeleteOhh cute outfit! I wouldn't think of pairing flat boots with a short dress like that but it looks cute! And omigosh, Paris, swoon. I absolutely love everything about Paris! Isn't Versailles gorgeous? I did a 2 week exchange program in high school and the family I stayed with lived right near Versailles, so we went there a few times and even saw a huge concert there where Coolio performed! And I hope you enjoyed your first macaron... and had many more!
ReplyDeleteMy husband proposed to me in the hall of mirrors! Versailles has a very special place in my heart. Love your brown and black ensemble!
ReplyDeleteUh, just noticed the dress is olive, not black. Still love it.
ReplyDeleteSoooo cute Tiffany!! What an amazing place to get engaged! :-) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAhhh!! I went to Europe when I was 15 ~ I was way too young to enjoy the history as I should have, or remember everywhere I went. Your posts are bringing it back; thank you! I think some of my favorite sites were le Sacre Couer and the city of Monaco (among many others).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!! Love the boots!
