I'm baaack!! :-) It was an amazing two weeks traveling in Europe but I am SO happy to be back home and blogging! I'm excited to share all my travel outfits with you, but first have to say - didn't the guest bloggers rock? I hope you enjoyed them, and if you have any suggestions for next time please let me know.
So... about Paris! I spent the first 5 nights there and absolutely loved it! (what's not to like?) I didn't do much (okay, any) shopping but I was enthralled with people watching and took notes on how they dressed. Here's what I learned:
- They dress very similar to NYC. Somewhat somber, with all dark colors and hardly any bright colors.
- Overall, not everyone is dressed amazing like I thought they would be. I would say Paris is on par with NYC style-wise, but then there are these random, amazingly dressed people that would come around the corner and knock your socks off.
- Leggings worn as pants seem to be totally acceptable.
- Two big trends were skull scarves and "H" belts.
I was somewhat unsure about what to pack for this trip (I've never been across the pond), but this outfit was perfect for Paris! The dark colors fit in, it was the right temperature for this wool coat, and the Micheal Kors loafers were comfy enough for walking all day! Stay tuned tomorrow for the rest of my outfits from Paris.

Yaaaaay so happy you're back J! The guest posts were great but in all honesty, I really missed your daily fashions! You look gorg in that picture and I'm happy to hear your trip was fabulous. Welcome back! :)
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling you were in Paris/Europe!! The guest bloggers really were great and I discovered a few new blogs. However, I am really glad you're back... I missed your daily commentary and interaction. Can't wait to see the rest of your outfits!
ReplyDeleteJ... I was also just in Paris...spent a week there, from September 3-11. I love your photos and I adore the city...just an amazing place to people watch and learn about classic styles. I have just been home a week but with our weather seasons changing in Kentucky...I have had a hard look at my closet and how to dress up a bit more, more blazers, more layers, scarfs, accessories.. I work in a casual office setting...so jeans are totally acceptable. But I am looking forward to really pumping up my daily wardrobe this fall & winter...I think the Parisian lifestyle and fashion sense is something we can all learn from. Can't wait to see your pictures and posts!
ReplyDeleteU look lovely!! :) This is your first self post after I have joined your blog and I was looking forward to this...

You look fabulous! I am heading to Paris for 5 days on Friday and desperately wondering what to pack. Can you please please tell me how cold it was and if I will need lots of jackets? I was hoping cardigans would be enough? Thank you!
ReplyDeletei just love your blog..you are my fashionista..

What a fabulous trip!! Love the photos.
ReplyDeleteFabulous!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back J! I enjoyed your guest bloggers. I'm glad you had an awesome time in Paris. I went to Paris in March and it was pretty chilly, but people kept their style in spite of the chill. I saw stylish women riding bicycles in 4 & 5 inch heels. I was so amazed. I love the outfit you feature today. I can't wait to see your other outfits from Paris this week.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! You look beautiful, as always! Loved the guest bloggers!
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm sooo excited for you! Paris is an amazing city and totally fitting for you. :-) I loved it. I have some special memories there (like getting engaged at the Eiffel Tower... ;-))))).
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous! I adore your whole outfit and your bag! I can't wait to hear more about your trip in Paris since I love Paris and want to visit there one day! :)
ReplyDeletePrepare for cooler weather and rain (western Europe has been getting some sun lately- it was very, very rainy this summer, and it has been below 70 for the last few weeks)! Your best bet is to bring layers- cardigans and jackets and you'll definitely need long pants or wear leggings/tights/hose under skirts.
ReplyDeleteI adore this outfit, by the way.
ReplyDeleteCaitlin, that is so sweet! Paris is such an uber-romantic city! The perfect place to get engaged!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you! So glad you like the blog!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back -- you were tres belle a Paris! Montmartre was one of my favorite stops when we went to Europe for our honeymoon.
ReplyDeleteJemie, I second Caitlin - cardigans probably won't cut it. This is a thick wool coat and was pretty perfect for the weather. I also wore a warm leather jacket with a thick sweater and was really comfortable. We had one random hot/humid day, but overall I would say it's a bit colder than if you were visiting NYC this time of year!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ritcha and welcome to the blog!
ReplyDeleteSo funny, we were there at the same time! (I was Sept 5-10) Such an amazing city though and I agree, very stylish!
ReplyDeleteThanks CBea, it's good to be back! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Shayla!
ReplyDeleteJ - it's so nice to see you out and about - you should do more fashion shots from where you wore them! Hope you had an amazing time and looking forward to catching up on your trip over the next few posts!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'd love to be a guest blogger next time you're away.

Thank you VERY much ladies - you have no idea what a lifesaver this is. I'd been checking the temperatures online, but hard to tell how long it stays at the highs/lows reported etc. I will definitely pack a couple of warm coats now for sure!
ReplyDeleteI knew you were going to Paris! Haha! Hope you enjoyed your trip!

What a great look and yes perfect or Paris. I adore Montmarte and sacre cour (however you spell it). Can't wait to see more from your trip!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back :) I love Paris, can't wait to go back there, I miss Europe!! And I can't wait to see which other cities in Europe you visited and what you thought about the fashion there. I always look at what people are wearing in other countries, it is so interesting and sometimes inspiring.
ReplyDeleteso glad you're back!! this outfit is AMAZING, i love the jacket paired with the dark wash jeans!!! you never fail to impress J!
ReplyDeletewelcome home!

I got my "H" Hermes belt in Europe a couple years back and I love it. It's reversible, so mine is camel and black. Its the only belt I pack when I travel since it is basically 2-in-1. It was expensive, but it's a classic.
ReplyDeleteHi J! I'm so glad you are back! It seems you had a great time in fabulous Paris. My dream is to one day stand in front of the Eiffel Tower. You looked stylish as always.
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
Ness
Haha love the jumping picture, too cute. Glad you had a great time & glad you're back!!
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit, not used to seeing flats on this blog but they look great! Glad to hear you're trip was good, loved the guest bloggers, it's nice to be part of such a stylish blogging community!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!! The guests posts were great, but you were missed! I wear an outfit similar to this-- I have a leopard print shirt and I do the "hipster" tuck into some skinny black pants from Gap! But I usually pair it with black flats so the idea of brown with it is cute! I'm going to wear that next time! Can't wait to see all of your outfits! (PS. Isn't Paris just amazing? It's def one of my favorite cities in the world! And I hope since you didn't do any shopping, you did a lot of eating! Paris has so much yummy food to offer!)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! I enjoyed the guest bloggers, but missed you ;) Can't wait to see all you outfits and travel pics. Love this one - the black and tan is so classy and chic.
ReplyDeleteSO Jealous!!
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit!
ReplyDeleteI was just in Paris this past summer and fell in love with the French, their style, the food and their beautiful city! I'm glad you had so much fun---looks like a blast! :)
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I was drinking a latte and people watching right now! Welcome Back!!
I´m so glad to have you back!! It was fun seeing all of the other girls posting their outfits, and they were absolutely stunning!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see pics. It has been 10 years since my trip and it was so memorable as I hope your trip was. BTW the "H" belt is by Hermes+) and the skull scarf is most likely Alexander Mcqueen ($300).
ReplyDeleteThank you Janice! Those are the originators of those designs, but these were mostly knock-offs I was seeing. I actually purchased a skull scarf before I left, I think it was around $10. Glad I did b/c everyone was wearing them across Europe, not just in Paris!
ReplyDeleteCindie, this may have been my first time EVER wearing flats! :-) Definitely needed them for the trip although my feet are very happy to be back in my heels as well!
ReplyDeleteWould love to hear if more people feel this way! I purposely do the blank background for a few reasons and I personally like it, but again would love to hear what you think! Here are my reasons:
ReplyDelete- much easier to control the lighting and keep the same look/feel everyday
- keeps the focus on the clothes
- blogs that look like an Anthropolgie catalog drive me nuts! who frolics in a field or on a roof everyday in their outfit? seems totally unnatural to me. (although, maybe posing in your bedroom is too, lol)
- I don't wear all of the outfits I post (see my Q&A and About sections - this is more of a magazine format, where I share both what I wear, but also recommendations for your lifestyle and events!) so would be difficult to do on a regular basis
Let me know what you guys think. :-)
Great you're back! Didn't you love Paris? I <3 it! Can you be more specific re the Express shirt? The website has 2 and both above $30. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!! The guest bloggers were awesome, but I missed you J!! Loving this look - I'm having some sort of leopard print obsession as of late...... I can't get enough of it!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooo glad you are back!!! I have felt like my fashion inspiration was gone and I am starting to lack in the fashion world all because I don't have you to reference.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great trip...but more glad that you are back!!!
This made me miss France so much (I lived there for about a year)! When I was there I felt like fashion was effortless for most people. It was also crazy to me how clothes were either crazy expensive and unaffordable or super cheap and not made well either with not much of an in-between! I showed my high school students your post today (I teach French) and they were shocked that people wore leggings as pants. I tried to explain that, in general, they're smaller than we are. They loved your pictures!
ReplyDeleteOMG....how cool! I'm leaving for Provence and Paris in two weeks and have been trying to figure out what to wear. I've been told to layer a lot. I tend to have a pretty colorful wardrobe so I will have to pare it down and try just to have pops of color but stick with the neutrals and dark basics. What was the temperature when you were there? We are expecting lows of 50-60's.....which is chilly for us Southern girls! Glad you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!! So glad you had a wonderful time - I'm sure you needed a break!! Can't wait to see the rest of the pictures!!! You've been missed!!!! :)

yay! welcome back J! :)
ReplyDeleteI love love love that bag! You are gorgeous, as usual. Have fun in Paris :)
ReplyDeleteJ~ you look amazing! Welcome back and looking forward to more wonderful outfits! Thank you for allowing guest posts also, it was nice to see others creations.
ReplyDeleteYay! Welcome back! So glad to see you had such a great time 'cross the pond!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan and congrats on your upcoming trip! I believe the temperature was around 60-70 most of the time, but I'm told it was unusually warm that week. Layers are definitely smart as it can get really hot on the subways or inside buildings such as the Louvre (I almost melted) but then it's cold outside. Hope this helps! :-)
ReplyDeleteLissa, I love it! haha Thanks for sharing the post with your students. Although I didn't go in many stores, I also noticed that the shopping seemed to be either very high end or very low end. Overall, the dollar is so weak it didn't make much sense to do very much shopping there!
ReplyDeleteYou are too sweet, thank you Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cathy! I'm also loving leopard right now! I bought a leopard purse in London I can't wait to show you guys. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, Paris was truly magical. I've had the Express shirt for about a year, and I used a coupon to get it for that price at the time!
ReplyDeleteJ did you have any issues with language barriers or did you find that a lot of people spoke English? Or do you know some French?
ReplyDeleteAmanda, we were there for 4 days/5 nights and never encountered a person that didn't speak English! It was very easy in that regard. Italy on the other hand... was kind of a mess and it was rare to find someone who could understand us.
ReplyDeleteloving these posts! especially as i'm planning a european honeymoon for next spring, i can't wait to hear your tips and tricks!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks J :)
ReplyDeleteI just want to say one thing: wearing leggings as pants is NEVER acceptable :)) It's kind of...shameful. I don't see the reason why everybody has to look at one woman's private part...when she can easily wear a long blouse/skirt/shirt/coat/whatever...
ReplyDeleteBesides that, I want to say that I read your blog every day and I like it very much. And this was a super holiday you had. Keep up the good work!
xoxo

I love that photo of you in front of the Eiffel Tower! I have been wanting to go to Paris my whole life, now I want to go and get a snapshot like that one!
