Today's Everyday Fashion: Stripes + Floral
I was so excited when I saw this inspiration photo. I had been wanting to pair my orange and pink striped top with a skirt for a work look, but hadn't figured out yet which skirt to pair it with yet. When I saw the photo, this floral skirt immediately popped into my head as such an obvious choice! They are both loud statement pieces but because the colors are so similar it just works somehow. I also love that the t-shirt and wedges dress down the pencil skirt and give it more of a casual vibe. Have you ever tried wearing stripes and floral together?

This is one time that I can absolutely tell you I could NEVER pull this off. You look super cute but I would never have the confidence to sport this look!!
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of mixing prints, but this is not my fav look. Maybe if the stripes were smaller and the shirt was a bit more form fitting it would work better. Love the skirt though.
ReplyDeleteHm, i'm not sure I'm digging this combo. I definitely know I couldn't pull it off! I'd maybe wear this to a really funky event.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors, but am just not feeling this outfit. I think the wide stripes are throwing me off, it needs one pattern to be toned down a bit.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, this look is insane, I looooove it!!! Great look J!!!

I love this, the colors are amazing! I wore polka dots and stripes yesterday and everyone at work had a fit.

I think the trick to pulling off "mixed prints" is keeping it in the same color family, which you definitely did! I have never tried this look but really want to (probably today!) because everybodyeverywear's challenge this month is mixed prints! Have you ever checked out their site? It's pretty cool because you get to see multiple interpretations of the same theme, you should definitely link this look up:

Thanks again for the inspiration, J!!

think this would be too loud a look for me but you pulled it off beautifully! I have that top and have thought about pairing it with a skirt but haven't found the right one. Check out how I wore it: http://bit.ly/oRr4en
ReplyDeleteway too loud for work
ReplyDeleteTotally depends on the work place! You have to remember that if you work at Vogue magazine then anything goes! :-)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the colors... but just can't go there with ya on this outfit as a whole. I love that you are daring and try all kinds of unexpected combos - you are definitely an inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link, that's pretty much exactly how I wore this shirt the first time too! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love it Michelle! Did people love it or where they confused why you were mixing prints?
ReplyDeletefloral and stripes are my ultimate favorite combo! great look here!
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a pop of color. I've wanted to try this look for a while, but I never seem to buy similar striped colors and florals. Ah well.

I like what you did with this look J! I am a big fan of mixing prints ever since it was seen on the runway and you pulled off the look really well! However, I am not a fan of the inspiration photo at all! It is not a good look at all. Yours is great though, and I hope to see more mixing of prints in women's wardrobes. It is fun!

This looks great paired together! Very unexpected but it works.
ReplyDeleteStripes and floral used to scare me. I started out small by wearing a striped shirt and pairing it with a floral scarf as a belt and slowy worked my way up.

This is very bold and bright! I think it totally works because the colors are similar. There are definitely many ways to approach pattern mixing. I like to play with scale, myself and recently mixed a large watercolor, floral print top with small white and navy pleated skirt, seen here.

Love this look J! I never would have thought to pair stripes and florals together but you really pull it off!
ReplyDeleteSo bold, I like it on you, but not sure if I could pull it off! Bravo though!
ReplyDeleteI have seen this striped shirt somewhere before ;)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you've styled it, it goes very good with the skirt.

Hi J. I've been trying pairing this same Tshirt just this morning for work... Couldn't find anything suitable for work. Ended with a simple white T... I'll try again getting inspired by your look... Thanks! you look great
ReplyDeleteThe colors in this outfit are so yummy! This is definitely inspiring me to get out of my clothes comfort zone and go bold.
