The jury is still out on this look. My initial reaction when I saw the inspiration photo was confusion. On one hand, I can see them making fun of her on the Fashion Police, and on the other hand I can see them giving her props for doing something different on the red carpet. I like that it's unique and in general I like the loose top/short bottoms formula, but I also think it might be a little eccentric and outside of my comfort zone. Call me girlie and predictable but I think I would rather wear a sexy little cocktail dress for a red carpet event. :-) I'm curious to hear what you guys think though - is different good? Would you wear this look on the red carpet or eleswhere?

I'm not crazy about either look, but I definitely like yours better.
ReplyDeleteShe kind of looks like she randomly raided my closet circa 1990.
Aside from your shoes, it looks more office than red carpet to me. Although if you saw my outfit right this moment, you'd probably delete my comments. :)
This to me does not look like a red carpet look, but more of a casual look. It is fun though to try things out of your fashion comfort zone. Sometimes it ends up working out and sometimes it doesn't. I would have rather seen the shirt tucked into the skirt.
ReplyDeleteHeather
I think I would like it better tucked in and unbuttoned a bit. Love the colors though...
ReplyDeleteAdd a belt or tuck in in (or both) and I would actually wear that to work (maybe some lower shoes since I am on my feet all day). Wear it as is to go out to a casual dinner. Definitely not red carpet though!
ReplyDeleteI like the top, the necklaces and the shoes. but i think it would look better with skinny jeans or some sort of fitted pant.
ReplyDeleteHaha Jessica! I'm an equal opportunity blogger, feel free to comment your heart out. ;-) I totally got the 1990's vibe too!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!! :-) Love this suggestion!
ReplyDeleteI think I like it :-D It's just very different. Nice with a change, don't like it when everyone looks the same, including myself :-)

It totally reminds me of this outfit in clueless! http://bit.ly/n1RxMk
ReplyDeleteI think the outfit would look amazing if it was tucked in. Why hide an adorable skirt like that? I like your skirt better, actually. And the necklace is so cute!
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt, shoes and necklaces ... and the colors in general. The top is just iffy to me. It's for sure more of a casual look.
ReplyDeleteBut I like your question ... is different good? I think it is. It's always good to go out on a limb every once in a while, right? You look confident in what you're wearing, and it makes the outfit a million times more appealing.
Bahaaha! I'm dying laughing. That is one of my favorite movies! I totally agree! :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree Liz. It's nice to change things up once in awhile!
ReplyDeleteI like the look, but I don't think it's very red carpet worthy. I could definitely see it as a night out for salsa dancing or a movie date though. It's definitely taking a risk, but it really paid off!
ReplyDeletelove the red under the white! very cute!
ReplyDeleteI agree too. That skirt looks too cute to be all covered up by that oversized shirt!
ReplyDeletei like her look but its too casual for the red carpet!
ReplyDeleteThat shirt reminds me of Clueless! Ha ha. I don't know if that's a good thing, or a bad thing - but you definitely look better. And I love your necklaces!
ReplyDeletei like the inspiration photo--the colors work really well together. i like that the outfit is muted and demure.
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this look! It's definitely different but I think it's really fun! I think it would be perfect for dinner at a fun place with the girls! And those shoes are HOT!
ReplyDeletelove the look, but not on the red carpet
ReplyDeletethe shirt reminds me so much of the one Cher(Alicia Silverstone) wore in Clueless
i have always loved that shirt

I have to say that I really like this look J! The casualness of the shirt being worn untucked is so chic and has an earthy vibe. I love the chunky jewelry worn over the sheer blouse, but the shoes look a bit better on the model because they are more simple (less straps). I think with a more simple black shoe, perhaps even a wedge would really make this look!

I'm with you - I'd want a feminine cocktail dress for the red carpet. But this look is good for a casual style! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, although it's a really cute look, I'm not quite sure if it's appropriate for the red carpet. I mean, it kind of reminds me of what Sharon Stone did at the Oscar's before with the man's white shirt with the brooch pinned in the back, which I really loved. I think this outfit would be adorable for a casual day out though! I'm loving that red statement necklace - it's absolutely gorgeous!

I feel like the Olsens always look like bag ladies, so for an Olsen, this look is amazing! (Although I think Elizabeth seems to dress more classically overall.)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan, but I do have to say that I love how you've been switching things up a little with your blog ! You've done some different posts and it's refreshing. I follow a list of blogs, but yours is truly the best!!!
The shirt looks a little too big with the skirt...like the sizes don't match. I like the shirt with the necklaces, though!
ReplyDeleteThey are so similaaaaar!!!! you have done a good work ;)
ReplyDeletevist http://udontthinktwice.blogspot.com/. than uuu so much :)xoxo
Although I think you look WAY better in the outfit I think it comes off as sloppy looking which I know you're not going for! :) I agree with the skinny jeans with top comment though.
ReplyDeleteNot digging the red-carpet version, but yours I think is workable. I'd add a belt for some shape...maybe a skinny black one to mimic the lines of the necklaces?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Lindsay! I have been feeling the urge to step out of my comfort zone lately, I'm glad to hear someone is enjoying the change of pace! :-)
ReplyDeleteI like it better on you than on her, but I'm not sure I like it. I DO like the necklace!

Someone said the same thing about Clueless on my Facebook page, too funny! I loved that movie so maybe it was in my subconscious this whole time! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis necklace is AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteAsk the Duplex
This isn't as obviously sexy as a cocktail dress, but it's definitely sexy. It's a bit more demure, but still alluring...I think it's a nice change and you look great!
ReplyDeleteIt's not really my taste, but I think her shirt is just to old-fashioned. Yours has cleaner lines and I like the bright white as opposed to ivory. But, yeah, cocktail dress all the way!
ReplyDeleteoooh actually the shirt on elizabeth olsen was also worn on lauren conrad here: http://i51.tinypic.com/28tan7o.jpg . I like the way lauren styled the shirt, and her outfit looks adorable! maybe black shorts or leather shorts would look better with the sheer white blouse?
ReplyDeleteI actually love this look, but I'd add a super skinny patent leather belt and wear it on a date night/girls night out. I don't like it for the red carpet, but it could be great out on the town!
