I'm convinced chambray shirts look good with just about anything; I can see one paired with any of the striped skirts below. As for the knotted part, it's not a trend I would invest in (aka buy a shirt that is already knotted), however, I do enjoy knotting a shirt I already own. It works particularly well with this skirt, because it's hard to tuck a shirt into a stretchy cotton skirt without it bunching up and showing through. Have you tried the knotted shirt trend? Store-bought or DIY?

I totally agree with you. I love Chambray and I can justify buying a zillion different ones because they are all slightly different and hey they go with anything. I love how you styled it with a striped skirt, really cute!

Hey J!! I love this look! It is also a great way to make a summer maxi-dress wearable in the spring (or anytime its cooler out!) http://eht247.wordpress.com/2013/03/27/summerizing-spring/
ReplyDeleteyou look gorgeous! this is a new favorite outfit of yours. that skirt is so perfect on you

This combo is gorgeous, the knot adds that little something and makes it so special. I finally bought a chambray shirt a couple of weeks ago after months and months of looking for one and have been wearing it with so many things. Such a versatile piece!
ReplyDeleteGreat combo, love it! ♥

I don't know why, but knotting shirts makes me feel like I'm back in middle school again. But, it looks great on you! I think its the modern twist with the dark chambray and the striped skirt....if you did this with a lighter denim I think I would have major flashbacks!

The knotted shirt trend reminds me of Dirty Dancing. I'm just not sure I'm ready to jump on the band wagon. I definitely wouldn't invest in it, but maybe I'll try to style it the way that you have here. I'm loving the deep color of the bag!
ReplyDeleteNope. Chambray does NOT go with anything. But...I LOVE this! The skirt is just a bit longer which is perfect. And the darker tones of the shirt make it look adult, not juvenile like some denim shirts. Wishing I wasn't so short!
ReplyDeleteI've bought a knotted shirt recently but not worn it yet. But I love this look you put together I would certainly wear that to work.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite ways to style a button down (or a cardigan) is to tie it at my waist, because I tend to like high waisted skirts and the shirts themselves are just too long! The wash of you chambray is perfect, dark and not too distressed!

Yes, I love that trick too! I did that in Hawaii. :-)
ReplyDeleteCute outfit but not a fan of the heels. I would go with some flat brown sandals, either strappy or gladiator style.
ReplyDeleteLove this look. YOu just gave me something to pin and to try myself. I have a stripe skirt and have been thinking of wearing it with my chambray top. Thanks J for the inspiration.

Ahahahaha! Forget the chambray shirt - those skirts are drool-worthy! I may have to go on a fishing expedition. ;p

Definitely love the cambray shirt, it's so versatile! You can use it with summer dresses as eht247 said or even to dressed down a cocktail dress (how about paired it with a strapless, luxe-fabric dress?).
ReplyDeleteI have a sleeveless-already-knotted one, but I prefer the classic version without the knot.

Totally and completely love this look! Can't wait to try this myself, as I have the shirt and a very similar skirt! Thank you for all the inspirations.
ReplyDeleteJ, this is one of my absolute favorite outfits you have done recently! It is so classy but still fun with the knotted chambray, and dressy enough to wear to church or a baby shower but still casual enough to wear to hang out with friends. That skirt length is probably my favorite on you - soooo flattering! You hit this one out of the park!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this look. I bought a chambray top at old navy last year that I probably wear about once a week! It's the perfect length, able to be knotted without showing a midriff and able to be tucked in without popping out on the sides. I wore it on Easter with a lace skirt and chunky belt and got tons of compliments. I also pair it with colorful skinny jeans, tailored shorts and maxi skirts. There are sooo many options for a shirt like this. I think you hit the nail on the head!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit kicks ass. It combines my favorite obsessions of neutrals, stripes and denim. Love, Love, Love.
ReplyDeleteJ, you're killing me this week! I have loved everything you have posted and am on spring break so I have been shopping and shopping online. This outfit is splendid! I love everything about it. The darker tones of the skirt are nice with your skin tone. I have jumped on the chambray bandwagon. You should wear dark colors more often.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that chambray goes with almost everything! I am obsessed with this outfit for some reason. I love the dark colors and I may have a problem when it comes to stripes-I can't stop myself from being drawn to them! Lol
ReplyDeleteI also think chambray is something that looks good with pretty much anything and everything... you've managed to make it look SO classy and expensive here in this look!! :)

ReplyDeleteI really like the color of the skirt, and the black is just as attractive being a striped skirt is so in right now! The tied up chambray top is so cute!

Great outfit! I love the look of this chambray with the striped skirt, the colors are great!
ReplyDeleteI usually like every outfit you put together, but I'm really loving this one! The colors are fantastic and you really pull off a knotted shirt so well! Thanks for the inspiration. ;)
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried it yet, I think that it's an easy DIY though!

I love this look! I've been eyeing a similar striped skirt in Old Navy to do just this!

I noticed this shirt is juniors sizing, what size did you get?
ReplyDeleteI can't knot my shirt without feeling like I'm 10, so I haven't done it (I think I was around that age when the 80s knotted shirt trend was happening). I like the look on you though - it's cute! I love striped skirts, but jersey doesn't work on my body type!
ReplyDeletehey J! this is absolutely one of my favorite outfits of you! i have like the exact same pieces, in diferents colours but im trying this ASAP! love u!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, chambray does look good with everything--especially that skirt! Love this!

With your Emma Fox Handbag, i.e., the "Classics Large Foldover Tote"............ (which kind of looks like hand-tooled leather SADDLEBAGS!!)............ with your dark wash indigo-blue Mudd® WESTERN Shirt, with it's front-and-back V-yokes............ with your deep navy-blue and earthy, RUST-BROWN striped pencil skirt............ and, lastly, with the gold-plated spikes of your Renegade Cluster Bracelet on your (R) wrist............ (which kind of resembles part of a BARBED WIRE fence on a cattle ranch!!)............ well, if you put it all together, J., this *s.u.p.e.r.* outfit sure seems like it has a............ Contemporary-Western Vibe!! Great styling!!
