Today I'm answering my most asked question by far - what does your closet look like?! In this fun, silly video I take you through every section and every drawer. So come on in, I hope you enjoy! :-)
xoxo,
J.
Great video! I love the way you create your looks, so inspiring. I was excited to notice I have the same pink blazer from H&M :D xx

ps i have a small giveaway running http://www.theworkette.com/2013/03/giveaway-ancidecor-jewelry.html
J, thanks for sharing, it was fun! You also gave me some practical ideas, like putting the skirts in the drawer, I have them on hangers. From your blog, it looks like you have way more clothes than I just saw, what's the secret?? Are you sure you don't have storage bins filled with other clothes...***sigh** I need to purge my closet!

Here's a tip from my mother in law.....buy Joy Mangano Huggable Hangers....they are amazing! You have so many clothes (even hanging cardigans).....these are the best hangers to help hold the shape of your clothes without damaging them!
ReplyDeleteI see someone already mentioned the Joy Mangano Hangers for you. I love them and they are a space saver! They allow me to pack more in since they have a thin profile. You will love them!
ReplyDeleteDo you steam or iron every day? My stuff that is stored in drawers always gets wrinkled, but you always look neat and "pressed." Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLoved this!! I can't believe how much stuff you can fit into your closet. And you are so funny and personable - great TV presence :)
ReplyDeleteLOVEEED this and you! You have inspired my wardrobe so much J! I recently got my first bubble necklace and coloured skinies! Thank you
ReplyDeleteOh how excited I was to see you had posted this video! I even made myself a nice cup of tea to settle down and watch it :) I'm just wondering: do you recommend getting a steamer? I like the idea and I'm wondering if you have any advice for us all.
ReplyDeleteI live in providence RI and i cannot agree more about the closet comment. -_- northeastern need to learn to build bigger closets.
ReplyDeleteany way after watching this video i love you even more :-) you are so adorable.
BTW where did you buy your dresser? i just got one from ikea with 6 drawers and i still have a storage problems..
ReplyDeleteOh my.. AMAZING!! i love looking in others closets. Thanks for sharing! Such a fun place to get dressed!
ReplyDeletethanks for showing us your closet! I loved your video and am defiantly feeling inspired to organize my own.
ReplyDeleteJ I´m a big fan! Best whishes from Argentina!!!
ReplyDeleteI love love love wardrobe tutorials! This was awesome, I'm going to show this to my BF next time he moans I already have enough shoes or insert-wardrobe-item-here (as I clearly do not)

where is your jewelry box from? i have been looking for a good one
ReplyDeleteLoved looking in your closet. Thanks for showing us. I have to admit my closet is twice the size of yours....and one of the reasons I was excited to get our house. (But my closet is full of clothes that are "someday/one day" clothes.) Would love a tutorial on how to get rid of clothes that don't fit and quit hanging on to them for 11+ years! I have decided next weekend I am getting rid of more than half of my clothes as I have been hanging on to them for too long. The styles of my clothes are classic but just don't fit properly anymore. After a few children and a decade of marriage it's time to move on, get rid of what I don't wear and make room for clothes that do. I love your site. You are half my age but you have inspired me to mix and match patterns, colors and styles that I would never have done. You have made getting dressed fun again. I now can make my 3 pencil skirts and a few pairs of slacks look different with different tops, shoes and accessories. Hugs to you! You have inspired me to make a jewelry place in my closet. It will be my spring project. Thanks J!
ReplyDeleteMy parents moved to Florida last year and we finally were able to visit. Because of you I made sure Forever 21 and H&M were main stops for me! Thanks for the blog. I now love clothes(gaining 35lbs also helped!)
ReplyDeleteUmm can we be best friends?? You are so funny!
ReplyDeleteI love the video!! I've got my belts hanging insted of sitting on a box, I think I'll upgrade to your method... I can also relate about the shoes... mine are on 2 separate closets, because they can't fit in the main one! =(

LOVE the new video. Please do more of these for the site! :)
ReplyDeleteWhere's the PJs and/or lounge-wear? Is your stuff THAT comfy that you lounge in it too? The firs thing I do when I get home from work is get out of my work dress clothes and into lounge clothes!
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable! this was a great video. Except my closet is about the same size so how come it seems so cramped? Gahh. Maybe this will inspire me to reorganize.
ReplyDeleteOH and what kind of steamer do you have & do you love it? I'm thinking of getting one but I'm not sure if it'd be that much more helpful than an iron :-/
ReplyDeleteEmily, I bought a Conair steamer from Amazon and I really like it! I hate ironing, and a steamer is more gentle on fabrics like silk and you have less chance of ruining things. Some items with tough wrinkles will still need an iron though.
ReplyDeleteI wear jeans around the house most often, but my second dresser that's out in my room holds swimwear, socks, workout clothes and sweats. Nothing you ever see on the blog though so nothing fun! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I'm so glad you enjoy the blog! :-)
ReplyDeleteI bought the dresser in Boston so many years ago I can't remember where it's from now!
ReplyDeleteI got the jewelry box from Target years ago!
ReplyDeleteYes, I promise!! My sweats and workout clothes are in a second dresser in my room, but everything you see on the blog is in that closet. ;-)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked the video Carole! I love having a steamer because I don't like ironing, and a steamer is more gentle on fabrics like silk and you have less chance of ruining things. Some items with tough wrinkles will still need an iron though.
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome video! I'm about to redo the way my closet it set up and organized, so the timing on this video could not have been better! I really love what you've done to hang your necklaces. I was going to get some screw-in hooks and put them under a shelf to hang down, but your idea looks like it works better!

YESSSS, I've been waiting 2 years to see this! Okay, not really because I think you did one a while back, but I love seeing your closet!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the strapless dress you called a "hot little number"?! I think it's so cute... and I only saw the top of it lol! Thanks for the video.
ReplyDeleteCool video..:)

Loved this so much. You are so fun and natural with the camera and I love how you have organized everything. Inspires me to do a better, more inspired-for-me version of my closet.
ReplyDeleteSo cute and fun!!! Can we have a tour of your home now too?!? And, I'm sure you know this, but some of Boston has bigger closets than what you were stuck working with when you lived here... so come back - we want you as our bff!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving us an updated tour of your closet. So impressed with all the stuff you have yet it doesn't feel cramped or messy. Honestly, love your down to earth, fun attitude toward fashion, its so refreshing. Love your blog
ReplyDeleteThis was awesome, thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh I so agree! I was skeptical at first but they really do give you more space and hold clothes so well!
ReplyDeleteThe brand is Max & Co and I got it about a year ago from MJR Sales (when they were still around). Original price is $245 and I think it was $40!
ReplyDeleteLove your closet and the video!!! We are moving in a couple months and having a big closet like that is a must! :)

Wow. You have 3x the amount of clothes that I do. Def a closet to aspire to!
ReplyDeleteWhen I moved into my apartment I was so excited to have 2 big closets - one for OFF season and one for ON! I also have an antique armoire that holds my dresses in one side and outfit ideas or things that need completer pieces in the other side. I'm still trying to style a nude and neon yellow striped chiffon skirt...
ReplyDeletethis is awesome. I have a jewelry station too and I use the 3M hooks that come off easily. I hang them along the wall above the shelf where my jewelry box sits. It allows me to quickly and easily see my necklaces. In my apartment, I used a corkboard with pushpins to hang my necklaces and people always commented on it and said how pretty it was!
ReplyDeleteI saw this idea for a jewelry rack on Pinterest and created my own. I have a necklace obsession too.

Have you considered doing more video? You are really natural & likeable on video.. this was really great to watch. so jealous of your closet!!
ReplyDeleteThanks J! I live in Boston now and have a really similar closet to the one you described.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, how often do you get rid of/give away clothes?
I loved this video - mostly because we got to see your fun personality! It comes through in your writing, too, but there's something so fun about seeing it in video. :)
ReplyDeleteI am redoing my closet, loved this video! I am surprised you put jeans in a chest of drawers! I forget what I have if I can't see them. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI live in Destin, FL and have ALOT of shorts and golf skirts!
We have exactly the same closet. I live in WPB, FL. Good tip about taking the drawer chest inside the closet and have a storage hanger for some bags. Great tips! Thank you ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat video! I enjoyed it very much. How do you keep from getting overwhelmed by the clothes in your closet? I too have an extensive wardrobe and always have a problem when I want to be creative and put different pieces together to make a new outfit and I second guess myself and just put on the same ole boring outfit and seems like I'm wearing the same thing week to week. any thoughts? thanks! =)
ReplyDeleteQuick tip for your tall boots - I roll up a magazine and drop it in the leg of my tall boots when I'm not wearing them. Then they stand up nice and tall! Keeps them in good shape, looks nice, and stops them from falling all over each other! Thanks for the fun tour! :)
ReplyDeleteLol, I was going to suggest Huggable Hangers too! You can check them out on HSN.com (Home Shopping Network). I have a gadzillion of 'em. They are true space savers and your clothes won't fall off the hangers.
ReplyDeleteCan I move to Florida and can we be best friends? You are way too funny. Also I love how you said you have black dressy shorts. I am a native Southern Californian and my New England friends do not understand how there are differences between shorts.
ReplyDeleteI have a Rowena iron that I use as a steamer. It wasn't a cheap one.
ReplyDeleteThis video made me like your blog even more because you're a riot. (I already loved your style.) And that dog is sooo funny. They're really good at photo (er, video?) bombing; aren't they?

Thanks Lydia! When I'm feeling overwhelmed I stick to inspiration photos! :-) They remind me of what's already in my closet and new ways to use them. I also like taking 5 minutes from time to time to do a quick inventory and get rid of anything clogging up the creative process (including messy corners and old things I'll never wear again).
ReplyDeleteI tend to make a stack of things to sell/donate continuously, and then actually do something with that pile about twice a year.
ReplyDeleteI just re-organised my closet and used your idea for storing handbags. I don't have many but it really helps! Thanks again for showing us your closet!
ReplyDeleteLoved watching this video-- Your personality and sense of humor had me smiling the whole time! As a poor college student, I don't have a lot of money to spend on clothes and your blog always gives me the inspiration to "re-vamp" the items that I do have! Thank you J!
ReplyDeleteCan you please do more videos? You are adorable!! I always look forward to reading the blog everyday :) thanks for what you do J!
ReplyDeleteI live in Boston and seeing a closet that size makes me so jealous! I dream about having a walk in closet like that. My last closet was wider then the door, so you couldn't even get to any of the things hung on the very ends. Who thought that up!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip about using a key hook for displaying necklaces, I think I might try that. Thanks for the peek inside your closet!
I just wrote a really long comment and wasn't signed in and went to sign and now it's gone :(
ReplyDeleteDo you ever get a crease down your skirts from them being folded in a drawer?
You gave us a tour before of your closet and you have a different closet now. This gave me the idea that I should show my closet since I have moved since showing my last closet. In my old closet, I also had a dresser. I really liked it in the closet.
I use hangers that have a hook onto each other so you could hang 6 off of each other and save a lot of room. That helps me keep clothes forever but sometimes I start wearing something again. A couple years ago I started wearing a black dress I bought in 10th grade. I don't think I wore it for 10 years but I sure loved it am glad I didn't just get rid of it ages ago.
Thanks for teaching me the name for bubble necklaces. I wasn't sure before.
Do you have another piece of furniture that has workout clothes?
I like your dog. (Recently I had to make a video to apply for a course and my cat got in my way and was climbing up my leg so I picked her up.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7fECJGbq5w My husband said he started laughing 38 seconds into it. You only have to pay attention to the first couple minutes. Don't even watch the second part. Man do I hate myself on tape. I don't even know why I'm sharing this here.)
Colleen, sorry it deleted your comment! My skirts get a little wrinkled but I use the steamer to correct that. Love the idea of the hangers, and yes I have another dresser out in my room that has my workout gear, sweats, swim suits, socks - all things you don't usually see on the blog. Too funny about your cat in the video! I'm the exact opposite of you - data stresses me out and I don't ever look at stats like my weight or traffic on the blog. Love how different people are so different about that kind of thing! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! Wow, I am so jealous of your closet. I'm trying to work towards a closet of pieces I absolutely love, a closet that is very versatile, and my dream is to have items in every color like you do. So, I'm a bit jealous. Just sayin'
ReplyDeleteI have seen your pictures all over Pinterest and I'm so glad to have finally found your blog!! I will definitely be staying :)

Exploring My Style
J, I just saw this video earlier today (really enjoyed) and it got me thinking... My master closet is on the average/smaller side, however, an awesome local closet organizer company really knocked it out of the park and utilized every inch of space with lots of shelves, drawers, a jewelry drawer, belt hooks, extending valet rod (for the outfit of the day, of course), shoe shelves, laundry bin, etc. -- not the wire ones, either; really nice heavy-duty laminate that will not chip (they even fit in seasonal storage pull-downs in the space too high to reach). Funny, I actually have those big polka dot bins from Target on my shelves, too! And I, also, like to hang most everything -- just easier to see it all... My closet would actually be about perfect if I could just get my husband to move all his stuff to another closet in the house and let me have this one to myself!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, even though you've obviously got a system that works for the extensive wardrobe you have (this is a job now for your Assistant); you should get a local (or even national) closet organizer place to give YOUR closet a makeover (maybe in exchange for advertising on your blog?). AND you could do "before and after" videos to show off the organizers and all the cool features. WIN-WIN! Just a thought...
Really do love your blog -- your outfits are always cuter than the inspiration outfit -- and I'd kill for those legs!! Thanks for the great ideas! : )
Liza
Love this idea Liza! I'm planning to buy a house soon and I think a closet makeover would be amazing! Will definitely consider this for the future!
ReplyDeleteI leave for college in the fall and I am really worried about how I am going to fit all my clothes into the space they give you in a college dorm. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteJust wondering what type of garment steamer you use? I have SO MANY pieces of clothing that I don't wear due to general wrinkly-ness and noticed you had a steamer in your video! I'm looking for something that doesn't break the bank but is reliable and doesn't leak!! Suggestions??
