Today's Everyday Fashion: Skirt Options

I had so much fun wearing this skirt this weekend! I have a tough time finding full skirts that I really like, but I had a good feeling about this one when I spotted it online. I really like the thick waistband at the smallest part of my waist, flat front with more pouf in the back, and thick, ribbed material. I went for classic black and ivory for my first outfit, but plan to pair it with fun colors this summer. What is your favorite fit of skirt and why?

  1. How tall are you?  I am 5'9" and before I order the skirt you are wearing I am wondering how tall you are so I can get an idea where the skirt will stop on me.  BTW - Great outfit!

  5. I really like that skirt.  I feel you could do a lot with a skirt like that - I'd love to see it with cobalt or fuchsia.

  6. I have a tiny waste (28 inches) and wide hips (40 inches!!) so my favorite skirt type is a high-waisted, fitted pencil skirt. They really flaunt my curves and make me feel polished and sophisticated. I can wear long ones to work, church, and events, and I can pair shorter ones with flats, sandals, and t shirts to make them more casual.

  7. I like the skirt but I love the change in background!!! It really adds an ooomph to your blog posts! Just the change in scenery adds to the fashion:) I woul love to see more posts with beautiful landscape in the background!!

  8. Love the skirt, it's a nice change from the usual pencil skirts you post since a-line skirts fit my body stype (pear) much better.

  11. I love A-line skirts! I don't wear them that often, because the only way I can think to style them is with a shirt tucked in and a cardigan, like you have this one styled. Don't get me wrong I think it's adorable and it's a classic feminine look. But can you think of any other way to style it?

  14. Oh, boy! This is now the second time your blog and mine have coincided in terms of similar items.  Either you are my kindred fashion spirit or I've read you so many times, I'm channeling my inner "J".  Either way, I hope you believe imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, even though I still think you're way cuter in your outfits than I.

  18. I love stripes and every time I see a striped shirt in a store I think "Ooo I love that, but I can't buy it because I already have too many striped shirts". But THIS, this is something new!! In love with the thick bold stripes.

  22. Someone commented on FB this morning that I should do a peplum top over it, and I love that idea. Otherwise, shirt tucked in is the way to go, because with that much volume on the bottom, you need a "slim" top. A silk camp shirt or ruffled blouse tucked in are the other shapes I plan to try.

  40. Love the outfit! And I also love that outdoor picture, it's really pretty! :) :)

I have a question (to you or anyone else who can answer), what does that "c/o" in your blogs mean?

    ReplyDelete
  41. 'Two words for this beautiful outfit:  *s.u.p.e.r.-chic*!!    On your particular (enviable!!) body type, the flatter front;  and the WIDER "inverted box pleats" of this striped skirt............ (i.e., as opposed to, say,  t.i.n.y.  little pleats~~or  g.a.t.h.e.r.e.d.  fabric~~at the waistline of some of your other skirts)............ looks *exceptionally nice*!!

Additionally, the fewer bold, black-and-white stripes there are in a particular skirt, the more sophisticated that skirt seems to be!!    Both your Harmony Belle "Sleek Stripes Skirt";  and Collective Concepts' "Stripe Skirt"~~(top row, far left!!)~~have big, graphic stripes, but the Collective Concepts skirt has #2 horizontal white stripes;  and #3 horizontal black stripes............ (which then look like white stripes on a BLACK background!!)............ and your Harmony Belle skirt has #2 horizontal black stripes;  and #3 horizontal ivory stripes............ (which then look like black stripes on an IVORY background!!)

Your skirt, having an *IVORY* background then, (i.e., for it's #2 horizontal black stripes)............ simply looks so much "lighter," cheerier, and more Spring -like............ and also maybe (??) even more versatile, too, across the four Seasons, you know!!    ('Sure hope this all makes sense, J.!!)

  44. You look great.  This style fits your body type so well. I have a hard time with skirts given my minimal curves, and have to wear them a certain way to give the illusion of more curves than I actually have. I love the sleekness of pencil skirts but they are not always flattering on me. The most flattering I have found for my body type is J Crew's No. 2 pencil skirts in a "Tall", which fits me perfectly in terms of length and all around (I am about 5'6").  I also find tulip skirts work well for me (again giving the illusion of curves I don't have).  I love full skirts as well, and find they are flattering on most body types, especially when they have a thick waistbands.

  45. This look is ADORABLE! I want that skirt! Obviously, you're tiny so what would you say about sizing in this skirt? I'm 5'3 and a size 4 but don't curve in much in the middle. Is there much stretch around the waist?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love this classic look, especially with the gold-toed heels! I go for A-line skirts - as a pear-shaped woman they hide the things I don't want to be seen and accentuate my waist ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Joanna, I sized up and got the M in this skirt (I'm usually a 0-2 in skirts, and my waist is approx. 26 inches). It is fairly stretchy but I believe this is a junior's brand so it seems to run small!

  48. Love that skirt! I'm trying to branch out and wear full skirts more - I've always been more of a form-fitting style skirt person but I'm finding myself loving fuller skirts now. I saw that Collective Concepts skirt online when it first came out and absolutely loved it!
