Today's Everyday Fashion: Textured Blues

I've been itching to wear these tie dye jeans since my last post with them. I was honestly stumped for awhile - heels and white top for a night out were the only thing I could think of! Luckily this outfit idea popped into my head as I was headed to a casual gathering on Friday. This is my new favorite graphic tee (I'm awkward at taking "back" photos but wanted to show how I layered a racerback tank underneath) and tie dye is rocking my world right now (seriously considering buying the Forever 21 shirt below), so I had fun wearing this outfit. Would you wear tie dye?

  7. This is a really fun and casual outfit.   Tye-dye is a little too daring for my persona style, but you wear it very well! I love the ankle boots and the racerback tee.  I'm searching for a cute graphic tee that I could pair with slacks and a sweater/blazer to make it more 'work appropriate.' I really am in love with that sweater. It doesn't hang too far away from the body, so it looks rather slimming! Some open cardigans hang fro mthe body too much giving people the appearance of 'hiding something'. Thanks for sharing!

  9. I swear you could wear anything and still look good. Love your outfit. I definitely would not even try to wear tie dye pants but you look great. I might stick to a tie dye shirt.

  10. I'd encourage you to try to make your own black tie-dye shirt. It's really easy, and you can do it for half the price at most. It may not look exactly the same, but that's the beauty of tie-dye, and then you have your very own, one-of-a-kind tee that you made and can be proud to say you made it when someone asks you where you got that 'rad shirt'.

  11. I would definitely wear tie-dye! It's such a fun print and it doesn't always have to be loud either. Besides the fact that it's so much fun to make your own tie-dye and you've gotta wear it after that!

  12. love love love this outfit! i'm loving the tank layering. I love the tie dye jeans, but they might be a bit too much for me. You're rocking them though. I'd be more likely to put tie dye on top.  Great post!

  13. I'm not sure what exactly you are looking for but did you try Mango.com? They have a lot of "dressier" graphic shirts. Also, since you are in the US, jcp carries some of the Mango brand online and in the stores.

  19. Your outfits are adorable! I was wondering...do you wear the outfit in the picture for the day? Or do you put together an outfit for the picture and then change into something else later?

  20. These pants are so awesome! I love how you made the outfit more casual with the tee and sweater. I love wearing and making tie dye tshirts. I'm not a hippie, I swear!

  21. I like forward to your posts but I also wish that you would do outfits that where not skinny jeans/pants! I am a curvy girl and would like ideas on outfits with either straight or boot cut pants. Maybe even flare!!

  24. I feel like this look is a little young. I like the tee (though I would have a hard time parting with almost $20 for a shirt that's pre-destroyed, haha) and the sweater, but I think it's the pants that bring it down a little. Enjoyed seeing your take on them though! :)

  25. I would totally encourage you to wear this no matter your age Haley! I was inspired to get these pants from Elle McPherson, and she could be my (gorgeous) momma. :-) http://pinterest.com/pin/227150374925672445/

  26. Thanks Laurel! There is no set way that I do it. I don't always photograph as I'm walking out the door because I use the sun for lighting and sometimes it's night (that was the case here, I photographed it a couple days later, but this is exactly how I wore it on Friday night). OR sometimes I come up with outfits for the blog and wear it a couple days later after photographing so it's possible that something small like a bracelet gets switched. For the most part this site is a magazine format though - I like to post things that work for all kinds of scenarios, jobs, etc., and post outfit fails, and then sometimes I share what I actually wear. Hope this helps!

  27. Absolutely love the printed top! I actually never go into Windsor but ran into one today after I saw this post and was bummed I couldn't find the top :(

  28. I am very inspired now to try some tie dye. Usually something I would shy away from. I may have to start with just a top but great outfit!

  29. I really like the *huge* numbers of available tie-dyed clothing options now!!    All types of colors;  color pairings;  and patterns............ i.e., from VERY BOLD patterns that maybe look like *exploding stars*, (as in Free People's "Black Tie-Dye Cord Skinnies," Above)............ to............ MORE SUBDUED patterns, that maybe look like *X-rays of impressionistic leaves*, as in your Collide Boutique "Black Acid-Wash Skinny Jeans"!!    Your previous tie-dye outfit, with a classic white shirt and your ("swingy"!!) Lillith Fringe Necklace............ and your outfit here, with a graphic-print tee and cascading drape-front cardigan, are both just *great*!!

I'd love to see how a billowy-sleeved, flowy/flowing, solid-color, *boho-chiffon top* & flat sandals would look (with your tie-dye jeans)............ and also maybe how *a pared-down rich vibe*----with a super-sleek blazer;  sleek tank;  and sleek heels----would look, too, (with your tie-dye jeans), J.!!

  30. Hey j! I love love love the graphic tank you wore here! I think this look would be great for a concert or outdoor festival. I do have a shopping question, though. I've always been told/heard that one shouldn't buy anything that she can't imagine mixing with other items in her wardrobe, but here you say that you couldn't figure out what to wear with these aside from a white blouse and heels (& then this look too). I guess my question is, do you find that "don't buy if it's not versatile" rule to be outdated, or piece-specific, or to apply to classics but not trends? Or do you take more risks on c/o clothing? I know if I was still blogging, I'd probably use c/o items to think out of the box and try different pieces like this.... But for me, an everyday non-blogging girl, should I take risks like this even if I don't know how I'd wear pieces in multiple ways in real life? Does that make sense? Thanks in advance for taking the time to read/answer my queries! You're fab! ;)

  31. Thanks Maggie! This is an excellent question -  I have heard the same advice, but I definitely don't follow it!! I often buy things (not c/o) that I have no idea how I'm going to style, or only have one good idea for, because I have confidence that I can figure it out! I only consider something less versatile if it doesn't make sense for my lifestyle - so a party dress, a pair of dress pants - these things won't be worn many different ways by me personally so I will pass. But I wear skinnies all the time, so I would definitely buy a crazy pair, not knowing how exactly I will style it. If you love something enough, you will figure it out - and you can always use Google Images or ask someone for ideas if you are stuck!

  35. J, you're crazy! I love the back photo! It's not awkward, at all!
I would also really like it for you to try different angles/poses for your pictures, so it can look more natural. I mean, the way you do it is great, but sometimes one could use seeing the outfit in a more "worn" way than just the model pose.Anyways, love your posts!xo.
