Last year my friend Ashley was given a big bag of vintage hand-me-downs and she offered me this leather skirt. I'm so happy I accepted, especially since leather is such a huge trend this year! (Check out my faux picks under $100 below.) It was the perfect piece for re-creating this street style look that caught my eye. Also, my tops were a good color match, but the cardigan has 3/4 sleeves and the silk shirt is long-sleeve, so it took some finagling to make it work (I bunched up the sleeves a little, and then folded the cuffs over). Are you a fan of the leather trend? Would you wear a leather skirt?

Love it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe skirt is beautiful on you. For me, I'm not sure I would be comfortable in full leather. I did recently buy a black skirt with faux leather trim on the waistband and to accent the pockets. It isn't as street cool but I think it's more "me."
ReplyDeleteObsessed with the leather trend and especially love leather pencil skirts. This one looks great on you!

J, how would you recommend styling a leather mini skirt? I bought one on a whim last fall, and I have yet to wear it.
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought about wearing/buying a leather skirt, but you made it look so cute, I would actually consider it!
ReplyDeletefabulous-o...that is so lucky that you saved that skirt!!!
ReplyDeletecheers.
I just recently purchased a leather skirt from New York & Co and I don't know how I ever lived without it. It is going to be fun to work with throughout fall and winter. I love how you paired yours with the camel cardi and heels. Heather
ReplyDeletei got a similar leather skirt (to the alloy one) from H&M and i LOVE LOVE LOVE it. love your look, j!
ReplyDeletevery cute! leather is everywhere right now but being in Florida, I'm always afraid I will be too hot.. and I don't mean hot in the good way!
ReplyDeleteI just purchased my first leather skirt. I can't wait to wear it. It's still too hot in SoCal right now (still in the 90's). I like your outfit much better than the inspiration. Very polished and professional.
ReplyDeleteLeather skirt is on my fall wish list for sure!
ReplyDeleteYours looks better than the model!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING this color combination. Not something I would normally pair together, but they are so pretty. Great score on that leather skirt J

I recently purchased a burgundy faux-leather skirt from The Limited but haven't worn it yet. I think the color combo you have here would work well with burgundy as well!
ReplyDeleteIt would look hot with this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=337498776275865&set=a.324855397540203.100240.120030604689351&type=3&theater I have an outfit with the same skirt and a blue shirt that I'm posting this weekend and it would also work!
ReplyDeleteI bought a vintage leather pencil skirt at a Goodwill Outlet that sells clothes by the pound. It's now a permanent staple in my wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteI love items with a leather trim! An easier way to wear the trend and just as stylish in my opinion! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm all over this leather trend. I would absolutely without a doubt wear a leather skirt. You lucked out with this hand-me-down!

Wow, I wasn't sure a leather skirt could work in my office--but this look totally fits the bill! Very edgy but classic too. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI've had a black leather skirt since the980s and have put it in my donation pile(s) many times (waist size kept changing), but have always taken it back out. So glad to hear its back in style. So glad I didn't get rid of it (and can fit into again).
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the leather trend, but not sure I could rock it. I'm more of a classic/traditional girl, but it might be fun to go outside my comfort zone but in a more classic way (like a pencil skirt!)

LOVE the leather skirt!! So cute!!! www.dreamboatfashion.com
ReplyDeleteWOW I actually just bought a shimmery cream colored shirt from The Limited - this would be perfect! Thanks J!
ReplyDeleteI wore a dark brown leather pencil skirt with a cream silk blouse to my sweet 16 party in 1983. I took the skirt with me to college and wore it with chunky-knit sweaters. Even if I still had it, though, I couldn't fit into it. But to give some perspective on how sizing has changed since then, I weighed about 118 and the skirt was a size 6. Today, I weigh about 135 and in skirts I wear a 2, 4, or 6.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone wondering whether a leather skirt is comfortable, yes it is. Leather pants, no.
I like leather jackets but that's about it... being such a va-voom figure like myself makes wearing leather skirts verrrrrrry trashy looking :(

Love the leather skirt. Never was a big fan of putting black and brown together though.
ReplyDeleteI really want a leather skirt! Thanks for sharing these finds :)

I totally love the trend and I love the fresh colour pairing of the blush and tan against the black leather...so awesome. I don't own a leather skirt (I wish I did now) but I do own leather pants. I have to try this colour/texture combo, it's just too amazing.

I've always liked leather. I absolutely love your shoes. They are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteWhich month of HB was the inspiration photo taken from?
ReplyDeleteIt's from their website - I believe it was recent, like only a couple weeks ago!
ReplyDeleteLove it - very classy!
ReplyDeleteYou took the inspiration and used it to create a similar outfit, but it still has your own youthful twist! The skirt is polished, but the leather material gives it a shot of sex appeal. The colors in this outfit are so pretty! It's the perfect combination of hard and soft.
ReplyDeleteMay the force be with you.

I've gone back and forth on the leather skirt subject, and I've decided they're awesome.
