I'm so excited to present a new episode of my makeover show! (Watch it above - click to play. Or watch it on IzonOrlando here.) We've got a fun, new MTV-feel to the show and you are going to love Erica!
Erica lives in Orlando and is a young, married professional with a busy lifestyle. She works from home for an advertising agency and has meetings around town, co-authors the blog Amplified Culture, and is a yoga enthusiast. She had a $400 one-time budget to overhaul her closet, and in July we worked on adding skirts (an item she had previously sworn off), and sizzle pieces such as statement jewelry and fun prints to her closet. You'll see more than 20 outfits in the episode, which is just the start to how many new looks she was able to create using new items combined with what she already had.
I hope you enjoy the new format of the show! (Our goal is to try something different each episode.) Huge props to my producer and editor on this one, they did an awesome job giving it a fun vibe. I also want to give Annette at InStyle Hair in Baldwin Park a shout-out for making my hair look fab. I think you guys are going to love Erica - please watch her story, and check out her outfits below - which look is your favorite?

Fantastic video! I love the tips at the end :)
ReplyDeleteYou look great Erica!
ReplyDeleteHow cool!! I love this! You changed up the same pieces to recreate tons of looks! Awesome!!

Awesome looks!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what $400 dollars can get you when you apply smart spending. Obviously that isn't chump change, but just saving in bits and pieces --not getting that Starbucks latte every morning for a while, for example -- makes a huge difference. And then you get a fierce wardrobe in the end! Erica looks great!

Amazing!!! She looks so well put together and for $400 you did amazing. I'm astonished at all the great pieces you got for $400 and how you worked in her stuff. I love how you added the orange top to the dress and belted it. Still have to watch the video, have to get my son to preschool first.

I love her outfits, they are so colorful and chic!! That's amazing with the outfits you came up with for $424.
ReplyDeletePicts look great but the link to the video just plays adds :-(
ReplyDeleteWow J, you did a great job! I love the video, well done team! I love how you styled each outfit, the detail and time you put into this is great. I love the polka dot skirt you picked up and styled it.

Bright colors are perfect on her! I love the outfits with the green jeans.
ReplyDeleteErica is looking great with her new wardrobe. Great job on styling her. I love that F21 dress she found. I never have great luck with that store. Okay, once with a yellow striped cardigan.
ReplyDeleteGreat show J! I really like the format of this show vs. the others. Wow, you really helped Erica maximize her budget for the best use of her closet! Love, love, love that! All of the outfits look really good - my favorites are the ones styled with the yellow top and yellow necklace.
ReplyDeleteTry watching on the Izon website, it played for me there with no ads. Or try again in 2 hours, the ads are being removed as we speak! :-)
ReplyDeleteYAY! I can't wait to watch this I love your show :)
ReplyDeleteRachel’s Lookbook
Can't watch the video, it just plays the ad and stops. Any info on the shoes in outfit #1 and #2? Love them!
ReplyDeleteJust watched - it was amazing! I love the tips you give at the end. I am learning so much from your blog/videos and am so excited to put it all to good use at my new job!
ReplyDeleteGood deal! It cut out in the middle and went to an ad.
ReplyDeletewhat happened to the girl who had just a $50 limit and was mostly you trying to show her how to remix her wardrobe?
ReplyDeleteI love the outfits with the green pants!! They look so fabulous on her :)
ReplyDeleteAngela @ The Lovely Cup
Number 8 is hands down my favorite; she looks great!
ReplyDeletethriftthick.blogspot.com
Ehhh...not a fan of the styling. A lot of it is SO not work-appropriate (those pants! omg so tight! No way in h*ll is that at all professional). A lot of unnecessary belting and the pattern mixing makes it look like she got dressed in the dark. A lot of this *works* on a dress-up blog, but for business meetings? Sorry, no-go.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback Alyson! Erica works from home, and our goal was to up her "running errands" looks, not work attire. All of these are casual looks except for the pencil skirt looks in the middle (#6-8).
ReplyDeleteThat episode is coming up next! We shot both episodes in the same week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cinnamon! Here's a link to the video on the Izon site, it should work fine there: http://www.izonorlando.com/2012/10/j’s-everyday-fashion-s01e03-erica/ And sorry, all shoes are Erica's, so I'm not sure where she got them!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Here's a link to watch the video if its not working here: http://www.izonorlando.com/2012/10/j’s-everyday-fashion-s01e03-erica/
ReplyDeleteGreat new format on the show!
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! The skirts and dresses are work appropriate - at least in my field. I love the green jeans and striped shirts. J you are so good!
ReplyDeleteLove the new format and I'm sure it's much more exciting for Erica to get dressed every day!!
ReplyDeleteGreat work. Erica's wardrobe is so full of great complimentary pieces that will stand the test of time. Love the ensembles.
ReplyDeletecoverupchic.blogspot.ca
This is so neat!! Can you travel to Dallas and help me?? :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome show! Congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteI so love waking up every morning and being inspired by you. I have copied many an outfit. Thanks, J!
My favorite is outfit #8. I am inspired to go through my wardrobe (especially with the change of season) and see how many outfits I can squeeze out. Thanks for the ideas as always!
ReplyDeleteGreen pants for the win! Those are my favorites!
ReplyDeleteOmg, seriously? The poor woman looks older with those outfits! I didn't expect much though because J isn't a stylist, I thought she worked more with budgeting. She did a great job with the budgeting and creating as many looks as possible, which is impressive and very creative.
ReplyDeleteRight after we shot the show, Erica went on a date with her husband wearing one of these outfits and the photo she posted on Facebook was so happy! She looked radiant and so confident!! THAT is why I do what I do. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks of her outfits (because, no matter what you wear someone will absolutely hate it - it's very freeing if you think about it). If she is happy and feels great, then the goal was achieved!! :-)
ReplyDeleteLOVE outfit # 5 shirt! Just might have to do a little shopping this weekend!

I invite you to visit my little piece of heaven, too!

The new format is really cool, my favorite so far! All of her outfits look great, but #10 is so cute.
ReplyDeleteIf you watched the episode, she said the pants were for running around and errands.
ReplyDeleteWow! Awesome!

I am looking for a beautiful skirt that I can use for our every sunday services. I want those skirts, hoping that I would find it.
ReplyDeleteThis episode of your helping (the truly lovely!!) Erica to - within her budget - purchase clothing; then to successfully INTEGRATE her new purchases............ INTO her pre-existing wardrobe............ is why *y.o.u.'r.e.* the stylist, J. ............ and *I.m.* not, (haha)!!
ReplyDeleteThree things kind of "stand out" to me:
#1) At the 4:15 point in the video, where Erica talks about how pleased she is with her black-and-white chevron top; and also with her white-on-black polka dot top, too, it's *interesting* to look very closely AT the painting on the wall~~(i.e., just over your right shoulder, J.!!)~~to see the predominant colors/patterns in the painting!! (Do we perhaps choose our clothes to somewhat "reflect" our surroundings??!! 'Never thought about it myself!!)
#2) At the 6:40 point in the video, where you start talking about Erica's new Forever 21 print dress; and~~(in order to wear the dress a different way)~~putting a top over the dress and belting it, I just love how you emphasized the *subtle*, pale orange (?) tone IN the Fall-toned print of the dress............ i.e., simply by *highlighting* it with the orange drape-front top!!
Also, it's just so much *fun* to wear a pleated skirt with a figure-hugging, tunic-length top for a semi-festive occasion~~(e.g., like out on a date night, or to an Office Christmas Party)~~because The "S.w.i.n.g." Of The Skirt............ just *feels happy*!!
#3) At the 9:13 point in the video, you say, "Don't be afraid to wear the good china!! Pair dressier silky tops....with shorts and flats; and don't save them for special occasions!!" I maybe like this second Tip the best, because it essentially says to all of your Readers, J. ............ "Don't 'put off' looking nice until tomorrow, because............ YOU'RE *W.O.R.T.H.* *I.T.* TO LOOK NICE TODAY!!"
*Thank you* for that............ (super-important, psychologically!!)............ little message, J.!!
"Don't be afraid to wear the good china." Best comment ever. Why save items for only special occasions? It's nothing to hand wash something real quick and let it hang dry. Thanks for the encouragement!

Great outfits! Good job J!!
ReplyDeleteA few viewer tips:
1. I wasn't a huge fan of the intro. I was confused.
2. The "tips and tricks" at the end could be slowed down. You have great info, but spoke really quickly.
3. I've never been in front of a camera so I don't know how to do this best, but it seemed like your body was always pointed towards Erica and not in the middle of her and the camera.
Overall I think your episodes are getting much better! I really enjoyed watching this one.

she looks like she's in pain
ReplyDeleteshe looks so put together! great job!
ReplyDeletep.s. where is your top from? <3 it!
Thanks Deanna! Here is a link to that outfit post, top is from H&M: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/08/todays-everyday-fashion-mirror-prints.html
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback AJ!
ReplyDeleteYour approach to fashion is inspiring, when other blogs can be so discouraging. When $400 won't even buy one shoe, it's easy to get disheartened. You did so much with Erica's budget. Great job, J!
ReplyDeleteHow do you get on the show?
ReplyDeleteI really liked showing so many outfits. I also spotted a few things in her closet I own which was funny. I could tell looking at certain things she got that I knew they were from Loft, Limited, and Express. I haven't even been shopping in months so I was impressed with myself for just knowing the styles. I shop at all those places so this really helped. Sometimes I have issues wearing the same shirt with the same skirt all the time. It's hard to remember to branch out.
