Today's Everyday Fashion: Print Crazy

I went a little crazy buying prints last month and this is one of the tops I picked up. I am extremely picky about prints (as are most people, I think), but this one was an instant thumbs up for me. I like the stark black/white contrast and unique medallion shape. I turned to this inspiration photo for my first outfit, and have a few more ideas up my billowy sleeve (I'm thinking camel and turquoise, for one). What types of prints do you wear? How do you decide which prints to buy?

  1. This is such a pretty and unique print.  I'm trying to venture into prints that aren't polka dots (I have way to much polka already!)  Thank you for the ideas!

  6. Great color combo! Prints are hard, but this one is a great find. Did you buy it at H&M recently? I'd love to purchase it!!

  7. Those shoes are amazing, and I love the black and white print with pink!  I'm really picky about prints too, so I usually just decide which to buy based on a gut feeling of whether I love it or not.  Sometimes I'll have a general style on my wish list for awhile before I find a pattern I like enough to fulfill it - right now, for example, I really want a tribal top, but I haven't found anything I love enough yet!

  8. I am wearing a B&W print with pink today too!

I love your print. I don't know that I am "picky" although I have to "feel" the print when I put it on.  Some things just don't work.

  13. I love that print too! I have a hard time buying prints that aren't my usual standbys (stripes, dots, plaid, etc.). Usually I just either love it and have to have it or it simply isn't my thing. This one, I love!

  14. What a lovely look! And I have to say, this is the first outfit where I actually appreciate your yellow neon necklace. It adds a nice touch of color and matches the shirt which is awesome by the way. I love the print. I'm really picky about prints, too. It's the color combination that wins me, and you can almost never go wrong with black and white.
The only thing I would change is the clutch. I'd switch it for a black one.

  15. I love the print tops. In response to your question on how I decide which prints to buy, I just know when I see it.  I do most of my shopping online these days and what I love about that is that you can scroll through a lot of stuff in a short period of time.  I literally just stop scrolling when I think I may have found it.  I love that feeling!  It gets even better if the price is right!

  18. J - I'm a new follower and I can't get enough of your blog. You have a great sense of style and I love that you are fearless with your mixing and matching of colors, prints, etc. I myself just started getting more into accessories (I'm usually a *fake* diamond studs in the ear girl, and that was it) and I love the statement necklace. My question for you - where do you find the best jewelry that's a good value and a quality piece? I finally found a turquoise necklace from H&M the other day and had it on to go out, and it broke before I even left the house! It was really disappoint.  I like so many of your piicks and note the stores they come from, but I didn' tknow if you have a favorite go-to store for jewelry that you know will jhod uo.

  20. Thank you Josie! Welcome to the blog. ;-) My favorites are definitely H&M and Banana. You can find insane deals on jewelry at Banana (in stores only) and their stuff tends to hold up pretty well (for costume jewelry at least). H&M I'm more picky about - a lot of it looks cheap but every now and then I find a gem. H&M has a good return policy though, so you should be able to return your broken necklace. I've never had that happen to an H&M necklace, and had some for a few years now. Just sounds like you got a bad apple!

  21. I was on the fence about this shirt too! Only because $25 was borderline too expensive for an H&M top. If it had been $18, I would've picked it up right away!

  22. Thank you! Yes, this top is recent. All of my budget posts are archived in my Table of Contents so you can see what I buy - I posted this one just a few weeks ago!! :-)

  23. I love how you layered the necklaces! I am a huge fan of mixing black and white prints with a bright color - looks great! :)

  24. I'm a new follower and I love your site and style! I can't wait to try out some new looks, especially since I have some of the same pieces that you feature.
I have a question about how to wear shirts like this one. I'm very thin (like you) and I always feel silly wearing shirts that aren't on the tighter side (not sluty tight...just form fitting). I worry that it looks like I'm trying to hide a pregnancy or something! Any advice? How do you know what's the right amount flow, without looking like a flamingo dancer?

  26. Love that print top!

To answer your questions: 1) I tend toward graphic prints that contain only 2 colors. (I took a peek in my closet and yup--dichromatic patterns rule. Patterns have to strike me just right and stay away from that could've-been-my-great-aunt's-curtain territory AND they have to go with several things I already own. I'm a huge mix and match gal so my pieces have to work together well.

And 2) Camel was my first thought! Another color I'd consider would be green (like kiwi or lime) with maybe some coral accents.

  27. I am super print picky as well. I have had printed tops/bottoms on my list for a while now and haven't pulled the trigger because I just haven't found any I'm in love with. I think if I find one and am really excited about it and can remix it with at least 3 other pieces in my closet I will buy. Until then, I'm in a print funk.

  28. I still mostly to stripes ( I just love them!) and gingham but have ventured out and purchased some florals so that's been fun for mixing! I really like your top but personally I would have left the yellow necklace out - I find it competes with the rest of the outfit which works so well together!

  29. Thanks Amanda and welcome to the blog! I felt the same way a few years ago but now I can't get enough of loose shirts in this style! The trick is just to pair it with a form-fitting bottom - either skinny jeans or shorts. If you have a skirt with volume, then you need a shirt that is on the tighter side up top. It definitely won't make you look pregnant though, and i actually think it makes a person look thinner!

  30. I don't really have specific print qualifications. If I like it, I wear it!

  31. Thanks! I'll definitely check out Banana, and I was able to return the necklace at H&M, no problems. I wanted to recommend Charming Charlie to you - I'm not sure if that's a regional store (I'm in the Philadelphia area) but they have a TON of costume jewelry! They have a website you can check out - www.charmingcharlie.com
