This inspiration photo made me nostalgic for the countless days spent at my grandpa's pool as a kid, so I tried to re-create that same feeling using items in my own closet. The result very much reminds me of the pool (I can almost smell the chlorine!), and is a colorful ensemble to wear to work or church. How would you wear pool hues?
ps. I'm never buying a pencil skirt from H&M again. I die for this color, but no amount of ironing will ever fix how it looks after one wash. Hoping to replace it with the Limited option below when it goes on sale!

How big is your closet?! And how do you organize all your clothes? By season? Color? I'd love to see a blog post about it! You always give me the encouragement to shake things up with my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteanother great look! never thought pairing yellow with blue.
ReplyDeleteAllison!
Love those colors!! How do you keep up with what goes with what? How can you remember what you already have while shopping? Very cute outfit!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect color combo for summer!
ReplyDeleteAmazing outfit, love the colours! ♥

LOVE these colors, j! so pretty!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors-look great on you!!
ReplyDeleteIf you scratch the screen, you can smell it. ;-) j/k
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have what I call an 80% photographic memory. Besides my wardrobe (which may not be as big as you are imagining it), I also have at least 1,5000 inspiration photos stored up in my noggin. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHere is my post with photos and video of my old closet. New closet post coming soon! http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/06/peek-inside-my-closet.html
ReplyDeleteAs you will see in the post, I organize by type of clothing - all the dresses, cardigans, blouses, etc. I think most people were surprised at how small it is. I've worn today's shirt, for example, at least 10 times on the blog. If you mix things up, everything looks new again!
Love these colors together! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove the pool hues combo! So excited to shop your closet!
ReplyDeleteLove the color combinations together! So pretty!

Love the yellow and turquoise. Such a pretty summer combination.
ReplyDeleteGirl, I hope you pressed/steamed that skirt before you walked out the door! ;) Lovin' the colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen! I don't wear most of the outfits I post, this is a magazine format, not a personal style blog (see "What is J's" tab for more info). That said, I was planning to talk about at some point how I will never buy H&M pencil skirts again. No amount of ironing will ever fix how bad this skirt looks after one wash. Hoping to replace it with the blue Limited open above when it goes on sale!
ReplyDeletelove the color combo!
ReplyDeleteSuper beautiful colors. But sorry to say those shoes don't work. The color is way off in my opinion. Looks more like the shoes are aqua. A bit too fussy for me. In my opinion you over accessorize way too much. I do like your use of color but crave more classic, effortless style,
ReplyDeletePool days are the best! Great outfit!

Isn't it interesting how some brands end up being the "go-to" place for quality basics? I've got a few favorite makers and brands that never fail and a few places I'll never get anything I'd like to last more than one season. One of those rhymes with "cold gravy." I love them for t-shirts and inexpensive trendy items and accessories, but otherwise I skip it. I've been disappointed with shapeless sweaters and pilling pants one too many times.
ReplyDeleteLove the citrus and blue combo. So sunny and works for church or work or an evening out. I have a turquoise blue dress/robins' egg blue tank combo that I think I'll throw a bright yellow sweater over and emulate your look. I think I'll pair it with nude sandals. Now if I just had that necklace... ;oP
ReplyDeleteJ - this may sound ridiculous, but how do you keep your belts in place without belt loops? I love the look, but I'm not sure they'd stay in place!
ReplyDeleteJ, Wash the skirt again in cold water and hang it dry. Spray the section of the skirt with water then iron it on high heat in a very slow motion. As you iron you'll see the fabric flatten then you know you can move it along. If it doesn't work then a Cleaners can definitely take care of it. It's a great skirt, I have it as well! I sent my to the cleaners and it looks new ;)
ReplyDeleteBummer on the skirt! How did you wash it? Hate when that happens.

Love the outfit, it came out fabulous! So sorry about the skirt and especially with the ironing, I absolutely hate ironing and am awful at it! You look great either way!

Love the look! Regarding tomorrow's sale, do you have to be a member of Threadflip to access the link?
ReplyDeleteRobin, not ridiculous, I get this question a lot! Check out this old video on how to belt a cardigan, I do it the same way to get it to stay on skirts: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2010/11/video-how-to-belt-cardigan_12.html
ReplyDeleteThat is a great question Kate! You will be able to view the items, but I'm not sure you can purchase without having a profile (it's free to sign up). If you test it out or run into any other questions let me know!
ReplyDeleteI believe I hand washed it and hung it up to dry.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! I might take it to the cleaners. I've ruined too many clothes with an iron and pretty much stick to my steamer now, which is not going to do the trick in this situation.
ReplyDeleteAH! So I live in Japan and usually get around to checking your site well after you post. It is midday here and I just finished showering after the gym and dressing. I usually check your site on my way out the door to get my daughter from school and I nearly fell over to see your outfit today. It is almost the exact same as what I picked out for myself!! I feel so fashionable now. LOL Love these colors!
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt, want one!! It is cute wiht the yellow, gonna try it....
ReplyDeleteMiryam
So are Limited skirts wash and wear? Don't laugh, but I've never bought a skirt from The Limited, so I don't know! :) I hate ironing and try to avoid buying items that are "Dry Clean Only." I tend to wear a lot of dark wash jeans to work, I'm a Kindergarten teacher, since they're easy to move in and care for, but I'm getting tired of the same old, same old!
ReplyDeleteHow can we get to the sale, is it posted somewhere on your ThreadHip page?
ReplyDeleteJen, it depends on the skirt. I don't mind dry clean skirts because I just throw them in the dryer with Dryel (at home dry cleaning). Just check the label before you buy! What I mostly meant though is that the materials at Limited should be a lot higher quality, so they won't look bad after one wash/dry clean like I felt this H&M skirt did!
ReplyDeleteThe link to my closet is in this blog post, which went up at 8pm EST: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2012/07/shop-my-closet-with-threadflip.html Or you can search for me on Threadflip - J's Everyday Fashion!
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I love that you are wearing a similar outfit all the way in Japan. Thanks for saying hi!
