This is a guest post while J is away. Be sure to check out Whitley's blog, The Queen City Style!
For almost two years now, I've held tight to this image ripped from InStyle magazine, aka my style Bible, as it's been pinned front and center to my inspiration board. Olivia Wilde was nothing short of stunning in this sleek and modern Gucci jumpsuit paired with a House of Lavande gold neck plate and strappy sandals. I recently visited a super stylish friend, and to my surprise, she had the very same image pinned to the back of her closet! Furthermore, she was one step ahead of me in recreating the ensemble with the blouse and pants already stowed in her closet. She was kind enough to let me borrow the pieces for the sake of this outfit recreation. The necklace is the stunning Pegasus by Stella & Dot. The red sash, an item I style frequently on the Queen City Style, belonged to my grandmother. I thought I had styled it every which way until now! The Chanel bag is the one splurge item in my wardrobe, and my most prized treasure--YEARS of hard work and saving went into this! The shoes and earrings are Calvin Klein old.

Tanya, thanks so much!! As I mentioned, this is one of my fav outfits in the world, and I had a lot of fun interpreting it with modern day elements. The pants (and the shirt) were borrowed.... I was a little skeptical of how they would look on me, as well, but I am telling I LOVED wearing them! Thanks for taking the time to comment! Whitley
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I am a huge fan of color blocking. Well, a huge fan of bold, bright color all around! This is one of my favorite jumpsuits, and I had so much fun interpreting it. Thanks for dropping a note. Whitley
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily :) As I said previously, I was a little iffy on what the pants (borrowed) would look like on me, as well, but then I wore them and did not want to return them!! Thanks for your note, Whitley
ReplyDeleteThank you Natalia! Whitley
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. That blouse was borrowed. I loved wearing it too :). Whitley
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. She was definitely rocking this Gucci jumpsuit!! Whitley
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Whitley
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's a DVF... I've linked to it in my original post, and I believe it is currently available in various solids and patterns. Whitley
ReplyDeleteThank you! I had fun trying to recreate the look using a handed-down sash. Whitley
ReplyDeleteThanks Tiffany! To be quite honest, this is not my favorite picture of myself, my hair or the location, but it is, by far, my favorite outfit interpretation I've done. Additionally, it is very rare that I wear my hair down! I am with you in that if I did this all over again, even though Olivia's hair is down, I'd probably wear mine up :). Thanks for taking the time to comment. Whitley
ReplyDeleteYou look great Whitley! Such a great recreation. Gotta say I'm pretty impressed :)

The style of pants is very hard to pull off, but you did a fabulous job re-creating the inspiration photo! You rocked this :)
ReplyDeleteGreat interpretation! How did you keep the sash in place? How does it look from the back?

Hello! Thanks so much for your kind words... You may have seen in another comment that I was a little skeptical of them myself, but then I was pleasantly surprised wearing them! Whitley
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to comment Tanya! Have a great weekend, Whitley
ReplyDeleteI love this inspriation photo and your recreation!! Any tips on how you managed to get that scarf flat without lumps and how you fastened it?
ReplyDeleteHi Diane! Sorry for the slow reply... I am just checking back in on this post after I thought all replies were made :). The fabric of the scarf is very forgiving with regard to wrinkles and very workable. I pinned it to one side of my pants and just tucked it into my bra at the other end, if you can believe! Would love for you to visit the Queen City Style anytime!!! Thanks for asking! Best, Whitley
ReplyDeleteHi Alice! I apologize for the slow reply. I thought all of the comment replies were made! I pinned the sash at one side of my waist, and if you can believe it, I tucked the other end into my bra! There is nothing in the back but the shirt. Thanks so much for asking, and I would love for you to visit the Queen City Style anytime!! Best, Whitley
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Nic!
