I wore this last Saturday for Yelp's Summer Soiree (block party) in downtown Orlando. It was an awesome event, but there was one small caveat - it was raining cats and dogs! I selected my outfit with the weather in mind - I wore my hair wavy (natural) so it wouldn't matter if it got wet, nothing white so the rain wouldn't render my clothes see-through, and I wound up wearing these wedges instead of the shoes pictured, which turned out to be an excellent choice (the height kept my feet dry, even in sizeable puddles!). I felt carefree about my outfit in the rain but cute at the same time. What are your outfit strategies for a rainy day?
Also - if you are considering buying these shorts, just a heads up. I washed them once and they turned lime green (everything else in the load was fine). I took them back and got a new pair, but the associate at Gap told me they have heard of color bleeding problems with those shorts. I'll be washing mine in the sink from now on, fingers crossed!

love it - sounds like heaps of fun! when it's raining here it's usually far too cold for shorts, wish my rainy outfits could be so cute!

Wow, I really love your hair like that. You should wear waves more often, it's gorgeous. Also, the top is amazing, the color combination is killer!
ReplyDeleteI wear wedges on rainy days, too. They're great for that kind of weather, I think. I also have really wavy hair and I straighten it all the time. When I know for sure it's gonna rain, I keep it natural, too. There's nothing worse than humidity and rain ruining my hair, it looks awfull like that ;-D
I love these aztec/tribal tops! Cute

tats one kick-ass top J!! n the hairstyle is very original..love it! I too prefer heels/height on rains, helps keep my feet off the puddles..n skirts/short/dresses. usually have a long sleeve top or a jacket. 'cause rains here bring in a little bit of chill. but apart from heels i love wearing boots too, helps keep feet dry n warm.
ReplyDeleteYou always make me want more colored bottoms :)

Hey J, I know this is a tad late, but when you did the makeover show, we see a top from Banana Republic paired with white shorts and a cardigan (bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=718063002&vid=3&tid=brsz1r&kwid=1&ap=14). What else would you suggest pairing the top with? I suggested something colorful, but the sales associate said the print is busy enough that I should stick to neutrals. What do you think? I'd like to make sure I can get a few good outfits out of it before I decide to keep it. Thank you so much!! Love the blog!!
ReplyDeletegreat outfit - love this top!

This is such a beautifully-vibrant outfit; (and I bet the *f.r.i.n.g.e.* on your sugar-brown wedges looked just great with your *f.r.a.y.e.d.* yellow shorts, too)!!
ReplyDeleteThe slight extra volume of wearing your hair wavy (natural) actually seems to *balance* your tribal print top............ i.e., with it's looser/fuller fit; cuffed cap-sleeves; and buttoned epaulette tabs. Also - (if you look real closely!!) - the pretty waves on the front left side of your hair, J. ............ just kind of *echo*............ the purple zig-zag-on-black pattern on your top!!
Cute! Did you have any concern for your suede wedges with the rain?!
ReplyDeleteI love your hair wavy! And I just bought a tribal print dress that I absolutely love - such a fun print for summer.

Thanks Zoe! Well, the bottom of the wedges are wood, so I thought that part would be fine. The top part is suede though, and I was a little nervous during the party. But after they dried they look exactly the same, so they held up really well. I will definitely be considering those shoes on the next rainy day! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Chrissie! I just really don't like it this way. :-( I have an inhumane amount of hair on my head. I prefer to try to flatten it as much as possible, otherwise I feel like I have a lion's mane, or like I stepped right out of the 80's. On days when it's raining or super-humid, though, this is the best choice since it's going to frizz out anyway, might as well let my crazy-hair flag fly. ;-)
ReplyDeleteKate, I love that tribal shirt! It can go with any neutral - it's the perfect top for mixing black and brown pieces, and it also pairs well with white, khaki, dark denim or olive. As for bright colors, I think you can definitely do those too! Some colors I would suggest include the citron cardigan we paired Lauren's tribal top with, a blood red-orange, blush pink, lime green, and almost any shade of yellow. Hope this helps! :-)
ReplyDeleteI live in Washington and it actually rains a lot! So I invested in a pair of Hunter Rain Boots! Super cute! My boots are black, and I hate the wool sock inserts in several colors and patterns.

ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely beautiful! I love everything about this outfit!

Cute outfit! Love how it is strategically colorful. Very fun. ;)
ReplyDeleteAs for rain strategies, I wear my rain boots out and carry a change of shoes in my bag. I also keep my sweater in the bag, so that if I get wet I can dry off my exposed skin and cover up with a dry sweater. The worst thing is having to wear a wet sweater because it got wet in the rain too.

ReplyDeleteBy the way - made my first MJR purchase - thanks to your tips!
Love your hair wavy like that!
ReplyDeleteAnd rainy day outfit strategies? I don't go out in the rain! ;) I hate being rained on! You look adorable in your colorful outfit!
LOVE the outfit and all the colors!
ReplyDeleteI love your hair like that! You should definitely rock the natural hair more often.
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS OUTFIT!!!! DEFINITELY ROCKING THAT THIS WEEKEND!! Love your hair too! So natural and summery!
ReplyDeletei LOVE this outfit!! probably one of my favorites of yours!!!
ReplyDeleteI always end up dressing differently when rain is involved! There is nothing worse than wearing a pair of long pants or some suede shoes on a day when it is raining... ;)
ReplyDeleteI love all the colors in your outfit...that shirt is amazing! I get caught in the rain all the time. It's those summer afternoon showers that happen all the time where I live. I have a pair of leopard flats that I LOVE...and I swear every time rain catches me off guard I am wearing those shoes. I've actually ordered the exact same pair from Target.com to replace them.
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering did you buy this on the Francesca's Closet website or in a store. I went in there today and the girls said they hadn't seen that shirt yet. Is is old or new? I love it and am trying everything to find it. Thank You.
ReplyDeleteI bought it in the store here in Orlando, just a few days before this post. It was the last one, so it had one of those 30% off stickers on it!
