Today's Everyday Fashion: New Again

These are my favorite kinds of outfits. All the pieces are old (except the shoes), but when you put them all together, they create something new. I've had this combo hanging in my closet for years (the navy skirt and shirt are more than 3 years old!) and never thought to put it together this way. I always say that our closets are full of outfits just waiting to be created and this is a great example! I dare you to give it a try in your own closet. ;-)

  15. Pip, not the same necklace, but very very similar! H&M clearly made a "copy" of the J.Crew necklace. I bought it last summer!

  17. I've been busy, just noticed the new flooring, it looks great! I ran out of money for clothes, shoes, accessories, anything new for a while. But it's ok, I have things in my closet that need to be worn. Thanks for the inspiration. (If I lost a few pounds I could wear a few more things too, I'll get to work on that) Love the green!

  19. Love how you mixed these colors! I've been really starting to mix it up in my closet too- my shopping budget has had to be cut back so I'm really trying to give new life to my clothes- your blog is always a source of inspiration for that!

  22. I love this outfit, but I once read that you shouldn't mix warm and cool colors (warm like your top, cool like the cardigan). Have you heard this before? Do you agree? Do you think there are "rules" to wearing colors. I also read recently that bright colors shouldn't be worn with muted colors. I'm wondering who is coming up with all these rules, and how we're supposed to learn them all! Should we just say 'oh well' and wear whatever?

  23. I am a firm believer that there is only one fashion rule and that is there are no rules!! :-) Can you image imposing the same ideas onto a painter? "Um, Monet I'm sorry but you really can't use those warm and cool colors together." What? Haha! Fashion is fickle and always changing - colors are in, then out. Cropped pants are high waters one day, and super stylish the next. At the end of the day, it's art, and people see it differently. So I say wear what makes you happy, and embrace only the trends that make you smile. :-)

  26. I've been doing a lot of this type of thing lately, because I'm trying to rediscover items I've been neglecting in my wardrobe.  It really is fun when you come up with something new out of older items, isn't it?

  27. I agree, this one of my favorite looks that you have put together! This is something that I would be able to wear when I substitute teach. :)

  28. LOVE the necklace! I  wish I would have seen it at H & M. It looks just like the one I desperately want from a company called "Towne and Reese". It's called the "Harper"

  30. I was trying to think what the gorgeously *striking* colors of your outfit MOST reminded me of~~~(on first impression, that is!!)~~~and the one thought that (respectfully) stays in my mind the most is............ cool, teal-blue WATER............ and red, red burgundy or merlot WINE............ i.e., "Water and Wine"!!

Soooo, IF any of your devoted readers (additionally) have plans to dine soon at the upscale "Water & Wine Ristorante-Taverna" overlooking Watchung Lake, New Jersey~~~(and I personally have never been there at all, i.e., I only know "of it" from the Internet)~~~well, J., you've supplied them with The  *P.E.R.F.E.C.T.*  Inspiration here for............ a beautiful dinner outfit, you know!!

  31. I have never considered this color combination, but now I will not rest until I try it! Plus, I love your dash of leopard print. I've started to think that no outfit is complete without leopard print and an owl necklace. I have problems......

  41. When did you get the necklace? I went to HM today and the girl there had no idea what I was talking about, I was also not able to find it on their website.

  42. Sara, I got the necklace last summer! If you are looking on the US website, they don't have online shopping yet. I would try eBay!
