Today's Everyday Fashion: Hello Sunshine

All the yellow in this outfit makes me want to say, "hello sunshine!" I wore this yesterday to (another) UCF speaking engagement. (That's three in a row, but they actually weren't related! On Thursday I spoke about Facebook marketing, on Friday I spoke about entrepreneurship and yesterday I talked about tourism marketing/my VISIT FLORIDA gig.) It was 85 degrees and it felt like summer, so I took it upon myself to wear some sugary summery colors. You can also consider this an early Easter celebration. Bring on the Easter baskets!

ps. I installed new flooring in the studio - you like?!

pps. I tried this outfit with the LOFT pink camp shirt from last week's shopping post and it looked awful. Not sure I'm loving that shirt in person so much!

  1. I really like the new floor in the studio!  It looks much better than standing on the fabric.  I also love the mix of spring/summer colors.

  2. I love this skirt! I wish it was still available and it looks great on you! You did another post that I pinned on pinterest with that skirt and those shoes that I am going to try and duplicate. And your new flooring is excellent!!!

  10. Aw I'm here in Seattle and I definitely need some sunshine from all of the cloudiness. I'm from Orlando originally so I know what it's like there this time of year!

  12. I love this outfit!! Very Spring-y. I can do pink but unfortunately, being a redhead means that yellow isn't the best choice. Beautiful on you though!!

Oh how I would love to see your closet of clothes... must be very pretty with all those colors :) Loving your blog J!

  14. Yes, the new flooring makes a world of difference. It was the only thing that irked me about the new background. hehe

  17. I have a request!!

I have been following your blog for a while now, and I enjoy and love all of your posts!  I like to think of myself as a fairly stylish girl, but like most girls, I pull a fashion "no-no" here and there.

I am a full time employee (at a doctor's office so scrubs are my daily work clothing) and a full time student, so my opportunities for flaunting my style, or lets face it, my financial ability to flaunt my style can sometimes be minimal.

I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing a post specifically geared to focus on the "beginning stages" of putting fashion into a closet.  When I see your posts and your outfits I'm always saying to myself "If only I had that ONE key essential part of her outfit, I could pull this look off this weekend".  But if I went out and bought all those one things, I'd be quitting school to get another full time job to keep up with my shopping habit! haha.

I guess what I'm trying to say is...  If you could pick 10-20 types of clothing that are ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to every girls closet, what would they be?  and maybe give some ideas for outfits for these must have essentials.

I realize, due to my hectic schedule, that you could have recently or even in the past done a post similar to what I'm looking for.  If so, could you lead me towards it?  I just love your style and I appreciate the fact that you try different looks.  (I try to go different directions in my style as well)

Thank you for all that you do to help girls like me!

  18. Hi J! I was wondering what color are the heels you have on in this picture? Mustard? Cream? I really need a neutral pump.

  19. My shoes are mustard yellow! Although compared to how bright my cardigan is, they do look awfully neutral, don't they? :-)

  20. Torie, I love this request! :-) This is a question I get a lot. Either from girls just starting out after school in their first career jobs, or women who have had babies and are starting over with their wardrobes on a budget. I have done one post, more geared towards career clothes, but with some useful tips for anyone and you can read it here: http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/2011/07/four-easy-office-style-secrets.html I'm thinking with the # of questions I get along these lines though that I will do another post eventually about just starting out. The 10-20 things to buy is going to be different for every woman (climate and work have a lot to do with it), but hopefully I can come up with some guidelines to help you determine what those are for you! Thanks again for the question and look for a post coming some time this spring/summer! :-)
