My friend Ashley recently inherited some seriously psychedelic clothing - electric blue velor, snakeskin prints, a shirt with a deck of cards theme, and these lovely green and blue pants. Lucky for me the pants fit perfectly so Ashley let me take them home with me. :-) The jury is still out on these puppies. At first I laughed hysterically when I saw them (I mean, they do go up to my belly button), but once I put on the long shirt and nude pumps I kind of like it! I am currently obsessed with watching Mad Men and it reminds me of something they would have worn. What do you guys think - are the crazy pants just plain crazy? Would you wear printed pants?
Shirt: J.Crew, $25
Pants: Vintage hand-me-down

You can have your own crazy pants |
1. Love Moschino pants via YOOK, $69
2. Topshop pants, $60
3. Forever 21 pants, $17.80
based on your tweet, I could NOT wait to see this post!
ReplyDeleteI am obssessed with Mad Men too! We just started watching season 2. You MUST be loving BR's new line.
ReplyDeleteI think with the shirt out -- you are totally pulling these off. Not everyone can (I'm not sure I'm brave enough)!
I don't hate it!
ReplyDeletenot gunna lie, I kind of dig it!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd dare to try it but it does look good - I like it better with the shirt untucked. I suspect the wearer needs to be pretty petite to make stuff like that work and I'm a size 6.
ReplyDeleteI don't hate them but I could never pull that off.
ReplyDeleteI just purchased a pair of crazy patterned pants from the local consignment store and was thinking about cutting them off to make cute shorts but now that I see you wearing them & I don't know which to do!! Darn it J you just keep sending us great ideas! Thanks!
ReplyDeletei love these! very mod and i think you can pull it off!
ReplyDeleteI love patterned pants! These are so fun and unique!
ReplyDeletethey cray! i'm not a fan. but i wonder if they could be styled in a way that i'd care for them more. i'm curious to see what happens next!
ReplyDeleteThey aren't my favorite. I definitely think you pull them off and I know I couldn't.
ReplyDeleteThese are TOO psychadelic for me. I'm all for graphics or printed pants, such as the ones you've posted under your pic (adorable)---but I don't know, J. You may want to closet these until Halloween, or unless a true '70s inspired trend comes back full force.
ReplyDeleteI love them with the shirt untucked! I've always been a fan of patterned pants and I think these are just modern enough to not be too crazy.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably be able to tolerate them if my grandma didn't wear pants exactly like that! Haha, if anyone can pull them off though, YOU CAN!
ReplyDeletei like it on you with the shirt untucked. i don't feel like I personally could pull it off.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it! I also love the fact that you won't see anyone else probably wearing this outfit since the pants are vintage! Very cute!
ReplyDeleteI like them with the shirt untucked. If they were mine though, i would probably chop them into shorts :) You look cute in everything you wear and I like your new hair color!
ReplyDeleteThe crazy pants are so cute! I love them with the shirt untucked! I am also LOVING the Moschino pants you posted underneath the photo - going to check those out for sure. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, I really like them with the shirt untucked!
ReplyDeleteI can't see myself wearing printed pants.

Hi, I just discovered your blog a few days ago. I went back through your archives and read every post! You have great style!
ReplyDeleteI have the same J Crew shirt but find it very sheer. Do you layer it over anything?
Personally, I think they are unique!!! And they look great with the shirt untucked. A keeper for sure!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Those. Are. Awesome. I don't have the guts to where them, but you totally rock that outfit!
ReplyDeleteI think the ones you have on are fantastic. Welcome to the world of short waisted women...Almost all pants go up to my belly button! The rest that you posted are kinda sad and scary. It may just be the cut, but I don't think anyone should wear 'genie' pants out in public.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could pull them off, but you're rockin' it!
ReplyDeleteSo, I had a Stella and Dot party last night...and OMG I love their stuff sooo much! I received $300 in free jewelry plus 4 half priced items, and I had three girls book a party so I will receive $150 total at their parties to buy stuff.
ReplyDeleteBut now comes the decision making on what to buy!!! I still would love to know what you bought when you signed up and what your favorite items from the catalog are. I want to try to get as much stuff as I can with the amount I have.
Happy Friday!!!
Love it! I like the shirt tucked in-shows off your small waist and high-waisted pants are in this season! I love all things from that era-the style, the grace... and I love pants in a cool print-why not? :)
ReplyDeleteThe pants look adorable on you. I'dkeep the mude shoes and replace the top with something crisp & white, and accessorize with a bold turquoise bangle.
ReplyDeleteForgive the typos! My brain was moving faster than my fingers.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much and welcome to the blog! :-) I'm wondering if it's the exact same shirt material as mine? I got it from J.Crew last spring I believe and it's a thick cotton. You could easily slip a cami under this look, although I'm not wearing one in the picture! :-)
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I feel the same way about the Moschino pants! Those are SO Mad Men - I just love the fit!
ReplyDeleteEmily I love the idea of shorts!! Although I wish I could also make them not come up so darn high. :-)
ReplyDeleteJulie that is a great idea! You could keep the pants for fall/winter and then make them shorts next summer. Best of both worlds. :-)
ReplyDeletedespite the pants' craziness, J, you still look too cute! in fact i like the top-tucked-in look on the right!
ReplyDeleteNot really a fan :-/ but if I had to choose, shirt untucked!
ReplyDelete*cough* velour *cough* ;)
ReplyDeleteI saw you tweet-tease last night about this psychedelic post, haha. I am not brave enough to pull it off but they do have a certain charm!
I kind of like them with the untucked top. The print is so fun!

I think you look so cute with the shirt tucked in. The outfit shows off your figure without being too serious. LOVE IT.
ReplyDeleteThe pants looks fantastic on you!! I think I would love to rock patterned pants, the print just would be small :)

I love the pants! They remind me of Emilio Pucci! I actually really like them with a top tucked in, but with a button down classic tailored collared neck shirt and with a skinny belt and no ruffles to interfere with the crazy pants. The color of your shirt is to die for with those pants though, but I'm not crazy about the ruffles. I would wear a brown button down with your turquoise skinny belt, and it will make you fall in love with those pants!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it, tucked it...rock the high waist!!
ReplyDeleteHee hee! Well, the crazy pants look great on you, but I think I'd be too self-conscious to wear them. Maybe I'd wear that pattern as a skirt? I'd love to see pictures of whoever wore these back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI was over in Europe earlier this summer and found that these pants were a huge trend and figured by fall they would start becoming a trend over here....everyone was wearing them with the shirt tucked in...I think it shows off your figure more and shows off the high waist line (which is the style of these pants) they are super comfy and adorable. You def. pulled them off well!
ReplyDeleteI tip my hat to your daring fashion - it definitely paid off! That outfit is so much fun. Yes the pants are crazy, but by keeping the rest of the look pretty simple, you made it chic and wearable. I fear patterned bottoms, but now I know I can live vicariously through you and your fancy pants!
ReplyDeletePrinted pants have been a strong runway trend for a few seasons now, but we've only begun to see them on the streets. Sometimes, it's done well, and we find ourselves going on crazy online window shopping sprees to get ourselves a piece of that effortless steez.Sea Breeze Astringent

You are making them work! I'm not sure if I am that brave though...
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love. Darling -
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE MAD MEN too. Can't get enough of it!
Hopefully you really wear these out in public. They are soooo cute on you! But what isn't? You could wear a paper bag and still look awesome.
i love the ones you are wearing, i'm not so much a fan of the other ones. i like the bright colors of yours, and their fit. i think it looks great with the heels, and untucked shirt.
ReplyDeletepersonally, i've been afraid to try this trend, because i don't want to draw attention to my bottom half, but i am really liking this trend, and may have to try it out!
i like the joes jeans wild skinnies with the leopard print, so i might try out those.
Those are Atlantic city casino pants for sure and I LOVE them!!!
ReplyDeleteI would totally wear these, but everything else has to be really simple. Maybe go sans jewelry or just wear really small silver balls in your ears. Love the modness of these pants! You look smashing!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they are all that crazy! They look great.....I like them much better untucked. I would def. wear them!!
ReplyDeleteI meant I like them much better w/ the *shirt* untucked. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is one look that I'm not a fan of.
ReplyDeletewow those are some pants!
ReplyDeletei love them and i hate them
what 's with that
the pattern is fab and if it was a skirt i would go mad for it
i think they are super fun, but i can see where one might get stared at for wearing them
a true fashion conundrum
brett
"I love them and I hate them" YES! I feel the same way! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, these are very Pucci great point! I also love the idea of a white button-up, maybe I could even tie the ends? If I put a wave in my hair and add some pearls I will be ready for a Mad Men costume party! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome Stephanie! Happy Friday to you too!
ReplyDeleteCute! Definitely need to leave the shirt out, tucked in looks too grandma. Your darling though anyways!

Aw J, you look awesome! It does look good with the mustard top - they definitely are an extremely bold piece! haha

I'm surprised in the land of Lilly Pulitzer you're not more used to colorful, patterned pants, although I realize they're more popular in places like Boca, PB, and Naples than in Central FL. Personally, I love them. I think the vintage look is fabulous, and high waists are all over the fashion world this fall. I think they look great on you.
ReplyDeleteCute, I like them! They're definitely something I would have worn when I was in middle school but I think I could bring them back in my wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteIf they were shorts I'd say cute, BUT as pants....too much. Maybe turn them into shorts with the shirt untucked?
ReplyDeleteI would totally rock those pants! I used to have a pair of obnoxious floral print capris that I wore ALL the time. They were a bit ridiculous, but I loved them, and that's all that matters! Your pants are much more chic...and they look AMAZING on you!!!
ReplyDeleteI think those designs are cute and awesome! The curves are really impressive because it gives the hips more emphasis. The leopard designed pants is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteToo much of a really crazy pattern for pants, but if i had to chose i would have to say the untucked look kinda works:) consider chopping them off, they would make really cute summer shorts?
ReplyDeleteBtw somehow YOU can make anything work, if I put these on I would look ridiculous lol.. but you look stylish.. i hate you J. lol.. seriously though let us know what you did with the pants:)
xoxo
They're a huge trend, are ALL over Europe (and were a part of the CAbi Spring 2011 Collection)! Stacy London (of TLC's "What Not to Wear") did a segment on the TODAY Show last week featuring patterned pants. So once again, J, you're right on trend (and wearing it well, as always)!
ReplyDeleteJulianne
LOVE LOVE LOVE they are absolutely amazing, J and they fit you to a T! The crop is perfect and I personally like the high waist and the tucked in version (I know a lot of people said they liked the other way) if you threw a skinny belt at the waist it might make you feel better about the super high waist but I just love that detail - so retro! Printed crop pants are coming up on my wishlist :)
ReplyDeletehttp://thelittlestunicornonearth.blogspot.com/
J, I like them! The high-waisted look is super cute. I would totally rock them, maybe with some funky hair too?
ReplyDeleteI think these pants would look great with a crisp white button down shirt and some bold accessories that don't compete with the color. I love these pants and they fit great. They have a kind of a Pucci vibe. I didn't get through all 61 other comments so sorry if I'm repeating anyone.
ReplyDeleteLove, love these pants! I'm watching the first four seasons on Netflix and I've become obsessed with Mad Men!

They are crazy, but in a good way)) Amazing print)
ReplyDeletehttp://tri-skelos.blogspot.com/
I'd pick up on the black in the print and pair these with a black button down shirt and back heels. Wouldn't go with another color on top since the print definitely stands on it's own.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your crazy pants! Shirt untucked is my fave. :)
ReplyDeletenice pent, the greenish in the upper pics are the best from all.
ReplyDeleteI think shorts are pretty popular when it comes to printing type category but not sure about printed pant. Anyways, I would try it out to see the difference.
