Today's Everyday Fashion: Red Shoes

What is it about red shoes that make an outfit? Is it the proverbial cherry on top, only it's on the bottom? Or you're an exclamation point and the dot is your red shoes? They are the fire extinguisher of your closet, only they start fires instead of putting them out? Whatever the appeal, I have loved red shoes since I got these 5 years ago. At the time, I had no idea what I would ever wear them with (fashion is a journey, I wasn't always this stylish or confident!). Now I consider red shoes a must and will always keep a pair of red pumps in my closet "in case of emergency." Throw on a pair of red shoes with pretty much anything and you are bound to look chic and sexy! Do you love red shoes? What statement piece do you throw on in a fashion emergency?

  1. You are so right!  Red shoes are one of the best items to have in your closet for that "emergency."  Since buying my red heels a couple of years ago, they have since become a staple in my wardrobe. I have now accumulated red peep toes, red pumps, red wedges, and red sandals!

  10. Black and white with a splash of red is such a classic combo! Insta-chic :)

I wore white jeans and a black tank with a red skinny belt a few weeks ago, and I received so many compliments all day! I loved the outfit already, but the extra compliments definitely gave me a confidence-boost!

  11. I love red shoes! I have a pair, that I've unfortunately only worn like 3 times because they are so uncomfortable! :( I bought them right before I had some foot problems with the ball of my foot that makes standing in high, high heels kind of tough for long periods of time.

  15. OMG! I just wore this exact outfit (but I had a short sleeve black dress shirt) yesterday! But I had a red faux snakeskin belt on instead of black. I had a TON of complements! :) Nice job, J! Loves it!

  19. I really like this outfit! And I'm glad you're wearing a scarf because I have a question about scarves...is it okay to wear them in the summer or will I look stupid since it's so hot (especially here in texas)? I've seen pics of girls in shorts and tanks with scarves, but I don't know when that's okay and when it looks ridiculous. I love scarves and just got some fun printed colorful ones on sale at Express and American Eagle and I want to wear them.

  20. I say Rock the Scarf!

Shorts and a tank or jeans and a tank with a scarf is totally chic.  Google image photos of "Vanessa Hudgens Scarf" or "Nicole Richie Scarf" and you'll see how to piece things together. I think you'd be able to pull it off!

  25. Love this outfit! I don't have any red shoes, but my favorite statement shoes are my leopard flats!
I've been reading your blog for a while now, but this is my first time commenting. You have definitely made me feel more creative with my clothes!

  27. Glad you got it resolved. I didn't even know it was possible to receive my posts via email, so that shows just how techie I'm am! :-)

  28. Mindy, it's definitely okay to wear scarves in the summer! All scarves are not the same - so I would mostly use ones that are silky or smaller in general in the summer time and wear them loose, or as a belt or on your purse. As long as you aren't dripping with sweat as a result of your scarf and can wear it comfortably there is no reason not to wear one! :-)

  29. I love this!!!  So cute and fresh!!  Gosh, you should do a closet post - how you store everything because you keep so much of your stuff from years ago - I constantly purge because I don't have enough room!!  :)

  31. How ironic?!?!!  I've been thinking about blogging about my Red Shoes.
I have this pair of Patent Leather Red Shoes that I've had over 10 years...and I've never worn them.  I'm not quite sure they are still in style at this point.  I keep saying to myself that one day I'll feel comfortable wearing them, yet I just keep looking at them every time I walk into my closet. I just CAN'T give them up! :) Maybe one day...
Other than that, I don't own any other red shoes, but I like seeing the ladies wear them. They add so much to an outfit. POP!!!

  32. I love a good scarf.  Why don't more people wear them?  Sometimes I feel weird keeping them on in the office though, but I need to get over that. I like the simplicity of this outfit - it's sleek without trying too hard.

  33. An amazing outfit for under 80 bucks, wow. Love how cool, chic and casual it looks yet the red peeptoes add sex appeal to it and make it feel more special. I agree about your theory on red shoes, 100% so. I own several pairs and love them and I think they can make any outfit look better.

  34. I tend to use my red shoulder bag in the same way, as a go-to accent piece.  Second most for me would be a scarf with sparkle or pattern.
